VIDEO - South Central Farm: Direct Action Disables Bulldozer

by A Thursday, Jul. 06, 2006 at 3:55 PM

Direct Action Disables Bulldozer South Central Farm July 5, 2006

QuickTime movie at 7.5 mebibytes

Video shows defenders of the farm jumping the fence, charging the bulldozer and successfully disabling it.

The last section is hard to see, I know, but with zoom on max it shows farmers climbing on the bulldozer and the police pulling them off.

Over a dozen people jumped the fence and charged the bulldozer. There were 8 arrests from this action. There are confirmed reports of police violence against the farmers from those that were able to escape arrest.

At 6 pm PST Local TV has shown video of police beating farmers.

The North side of the farm was badly damaged today but due to this direct action the bulldozing was stopped and the south side is still intact.

The old walnut tree where tree sitters were encamped, earlier this month, still stands. The farmers vow to continue to stop the destruction of the farm by any means they can.

Getting Tractored out by the Cats

by Tom Joad Thursday, Jul. 06, 2006 at 6:12 PM

That's the way Ol' Muley said it, back when my folks were being kicked off the farms by the banks and the big boys, that we were being "tractored out by the cats". Seems it happenin' again all over. In Palestine too, usin' Caterpillar bulldozers.

Glad you folks in Los Angeles got to organize together and stop it. That's just the kinda thing Rev. Casy was talkin' about. we gotta get together, and work together to stop the machine of injustice. Never give up. Never.

I'll be there.

Brutality

by Solshine Friday, Jul. 07, 2006 at 4:31 AM
risingwind@riseup.net

As an individual who helped in the direct action yesterday, I would like to make a statement concerning the brutatlity that happened on the inside. I would like to let the world know, none of us ever lifted a finger towards any of the oppressors on the inside. They brutalized my brothers and sisters without reason, without warrant and with deliberate intention. Our people, our friends, our brothers and sisters, our CHILDREN were brutalized. Please mobilize and get to the farm, show your support and solidarity with the farmers and the supporters and those who were brutalized. Bring your friends and families and join our 24 hour vigil and keep watch on our sacred spaces. Always keep the peace within yourself.

From the Frontlines, Solshine.

it's never that simple

by Sean Sunday, Jul. 09, 2006 at 9:29 AM

In response to Mr. Silva's crying, it is never so simple as what it seems. Yes the city did donate that land for the farmers to use. However, that land has giant power line towers on that same land. These towers have been known to cause cervical cancer among other complications in people's health. Please do not assume that these people are unreasonable. And in response to the previous comment, most of the supporters do not have much left. Many of us have lost our jobs, our homes, and our old lives in order to donate our time to a just cause. All these farmers want to do is grow their vegetables in a healthy manner to feed their families- that is the bottom line.

court date

by ninja Tuesday, Jul. 11, 2006 at 10:34 PM

I was also one of those involved in the direct action, and as the person b4 me has stated we have given all we have to the farm....we don't have much but we gave it to the cause...if we had land we would give that too...we did what we could to stop the bulldozer unfortanitily even through our arrests and the beatings we recieved it was not enough.......but from the mist of the ashes comes hope....we have a court date on the 12th of july to challenge the legality of the sale to mr. howoritz.......please come down to the LA superior court and show your support to the farm....the people need you....we can not win this with out you.......please it will only take up a brief moment of your time
