Summary

Israeli violations of international law continued in the OPT during the reported period (25–31 May 2006):

Killing: During the reported period, IOF killed 11 Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

In the Gaza Strip, IOF killed 8 Palestinians. On Friday, 26 May 2006, a Palestinian farmer was killed by IOF artillery shelling that targeted the northern Gaza Strip. Later on the same day, 3 Palestinian civilians, including a child, were killed and two children and a woman were wounded in Beit Lahia, when one of the victims attempted to check a shell fired by IOF at the northern Gaza Strip. Late on Monday, 29 May 2006, 3 members of the al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad, were killed when they clashed with an IOF undercover unit that moved into the northern Gaza Strip. A few hours later, a Palestinian security man was killed in the same area when an IOF aircraft fired a missile at him.

In the West Bank, IOF killed two Palestinian militants in two separate incidents in Balata refugee camp, east of Nablus, and Qabatya village, southeast of Jenin, on Tuesday morning, 30 May 2006. Earlier, on Friday, 26 May 2006, a third Palestinian civilian from Balata refugee camp died from a wound he had sustained by IOF on 15 April 2006.

During the reported period, IOF continued to shell Palestinian areas in the Gaza Strip. As a result, 4 Palestinian civilians, including 3 children, were wounded. Six other civilians (4 medical personnel and 2 journalists) were wounded during the IOF incursion into the northern Gaza Strip. In the West Bank, 18 civilians, including two international solidarity activists and an Israeli, were wounded by IOF gunfire.

Incursions: During the reported period, IOF carried out repeated incursions into Nablus. IOF also conducted at least 40 military incursions into Palestinian communities in the West Bank. During these incursions, IOF raided houses and arrested 60 Palestinian civilians, including 4 children and 2 women. The women were arrested in order to exert pressure on their husbands to surrender to IOF. Thus, the number of Palestinians arrested by IOF since the beginning of 2006 has increased to 1,630. In addition, IOF transformed 3 houses into military sites. IOF used undercover units and trained dogs during these incursions. During the reported period, IOF moved twice into Palestinian areas in the Gaza Strip, and leveled areas of land near the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel. During the reported period, IOF conducted a military operation, which was the first of its kind since the IOF’s redeployment around the Gaza Strip in September 2005. An IOF undercover unit, supported by helicopter gunships, moved into Beit Lahia town. Before this latest incursion, IOF had repeatedly moved several meters into some areas in the Gaza Strip.

Restrictions on Movement: IOF have continued to impose a comprehensive siege on the OPT, in violation of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of Palestinian civilians.

IOF have continued to impose a tightened siege on the Gaza Strip, transforming it into a large prison. IOF have continued to monitor the movement of Palestinian civilians through Rafah International Crossing Point on the Egyptian border. Although IOF have allowed the transportation of food aid from Egypt into the Gaza Strip through Kerem Shalom commercial crossing, southeast of Rafah, the crossing has not yet been officially opened. IOF have also continued to prevent Palestinian workers from the Gaza Strip from reaching their work places in Israel through Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing. They have continued to prevent hundreds of thousands of Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip from traveling to the West Bank. IOF have partially operated al-Mentar (Karni) commercial crossing, east of Gaza City. As a result of the repeated closures of the crossing, the economic conditions in the Gaza Strip have deteriorated.

IOF have continued to impose a tightened siege on Palestinian communities in the West Bank. IOF positioned at various checkpoints in the West Bank have continued to impose severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. IOF have continued to separate the north and south of the West Bank. For this purpose, they have closed Za’tara checkpoint, south of Nablus, and re-established their presence at ‘Attara checkpoint, north of Ramallah. They have also erected two new checkpoints near Ramallah. During the reported period, IOF positioned at various checkpoints around Nablus imposed severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. IOF positioned at various checkpoints in the West Bank abused a number of Palestinian civilians. During the reported period, IOF at checkpoints in the West Bank arrested 8 Palestinian civilians, including two children.

Annexation Wall: IOF have continued to construct the Annexation Wall inside the West Bank. On 29 May 2006, IOF issued a military order confiscating nearly 30 dunums[1] of Palestinian agricultural land in al-Ja’ba village, northwest of Hebron. Also on the same day, IOF handed notices to 4 Palestinian civilians in Sameeramis area, south of Ramallah, informing them that their houses would be demolished as they were allegedly built without licenses. According to local sources, the houses are located near a section of the Wall being constructed by IOF in the area. On 30 May 2006, IOF destroyed two bird farms in al-Walaja area, northwest of Bethlehem. The two farms stood on areas which were confiscated by IOF for construction of the Wall. Also on 30 May 2006, the Israeli High Court approved the construction of a section of the Wall around “Shavi Shomron” settlement, northwest of Nablus, near the Nablus–Jenin road. The court rejected petitions by local councils of Palestinian villages on whose lands the settlement stands. This court ruling came 3 weeks after statements made by the Israeli Minister of Justice Haim Ramon before Israeli security officials on 9 May 2006, in which he vowed to make efforts with the judiciary to accelerate legal procedures to construct the remaining sections of the Wall. The Israeli High Court issued two new decisions in this regard. On 19 May 2006, IOF used forced to disperse a peaceful demonstration organized in protest to the construction of the Wall in Bal’ein village, west of Ramallah Wall. IOF fired rubber-coated metal bullets, tear gas canisters and sound bombs at the demonstrators. As a result, 4 Palestinians civilians, 2 international solidarity activists and an Israeli were wounded.

Illegal Settler Activities: Israeli settlers in breach of international humanitarian law continue to reside in the OPT and have launched a series of attacks against Palestinian civilians and property. During the reported period, IOF demolished two houses in Brouqin village, southwest of Nablus, and a third one in Um al-Safa village, south of Hebron, claiming that these houses were built without licenses. IOF also confiscated 5,400 square meters of land in Northern ‘Assira village, north of Nablus.

IOF then raided and searched a number of houses and arrested 5 Palestinian civilians, including a child and a woman:

1. Mo’taz Jameel ‘Abdul ‘Aal, 17;
2. Elaine ‘Abdul Hamid Dwaikat, 23;
3. Mutlaq al-Qaisi, 45;
4. Ayoub Abu Lail, 55; and
5. Fareed Abu Lail, 51.

· At approximately 02:00, IOF moved into ‘Azzoun village, east of Qalqilya. They raided and searched a number of houses and arrested two Palestinian civilians:

1. Malek Mohammed Saleem, 25; and
2. Mo’men Mohammed Saleem, 21.

· At approximately 02:30, IOF moved into Jeet village, east of Qalqilya. They raided and searched a house belonging to the family of Moahmmed Khaled Ameen Rayan, 16, and arrested him.

· At approximately 11:40, IOF positioned at the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel, east of Jabalya, fired a number of artillery shells at Beit Lahia town in the northern Gaza Strip. One of these shells fell in al-Sayafa area in the north of the town, wounding 17-year-old Hamdi Hassan Abu Khousa with shrapnel to the back, while he was near his home.

2. Continued Siege on the OPT

IOF have continued to impose a tightened siege on the OPT and imposed severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Occupied East Jerusalem.

Gaza Strip

Although IOF have been redeployed around the Gaza Strip, they have maintained the occupation of the Gaza Strip through controlling all outlets and crossings.

· Rafah International Crossing Point: Rafah International Crossing Point on the Egyptian border is the sole outlet for the Gaza Strip to the outside world. Daily working hours at the crossing point have been increased to 10 hours. It is noted that, Kerem Shalom commercial crossing to the southeast of Rafah, which is designated for imports under joint Israeli-Palestinian control has not been fully operational. The crossing was opened a few weeks ago to allow the transportation of food aid from Egypt into the Gaza Strip due to the economic crisis in the Gaza Strip caused by repeated closures of al-Mentar (Karni) commercial crossing. On Friday, 5 May 2006, IOF closed the crossing in violation of the Israeli-Palestinian agreement on border crossings.

· Al-Mentar (Karni) Commercial Crossing: The crossing is the only commercial one serving the Gaza Strip. IOF frequently close the crossing as a means of collective punishment against Palestinian civilians. During the reported period, IOF partially operated the crossing and allowed the importation of limited amounts of goods, but prohibited the exportation of goods from the Gaza Strip.

· Beit Hanoun (Erez) Crossing: IOF have prevented Palestinian workers from reaching their work places inside Israel through Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing since 12 March 2006. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip have been prevented from traveling through this crossing. During the reported period, IOF decreased the number of patients permitted to travel to Israeli hospitals from 50 to 20. IOF have allowed international workers and Palestinian National Authority officials who have VIP cards to pass through the crossing, but without their private cars. Concerning serious medical cases needing medical care in Israel, these people are subjected to prolonged and complicated checks by IOF. IOF have prevented patients under 35 from entering Israel, and imposed a condition that patients must be transferred to hospital rather than to clinics and private medical centers. Patients are subjected to prolonged and complicated checking that extends up to 6 hours. IOF have also prevented Palestinian ambulances from entering Israel and families of patients have therefore been forced to hire Israeli ambulances at high prices. Contrary to Israeli claims concerning the ease of restrictions imposed at the crossing, IOF have allowed only 10 traders who have VIP cards to pass through the crossing, but have continued to prevent workers from traveling to their work places in Israel.

· Sofa crossing: IOF also control Sofa crossing, northeast of Rafah, which is designated for the transportation of construction raw materials. IOF repeatedly close the crossing for no reason.

The closure of border crossings deprives the Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip of their right to freedom of movement, education and health.

IOF have continued to impose severe restrictions on fishing in the Gaza Strip. Approximately 35,000 people in and around Gaza’s coastal communities rely on the fishing industry, including 2,500 fishermen, 2,500 support staff and their families. Fishermen have been subjected to intensive monitoring by IOF, which use helicopter gunships and gunboats to monitor the fishermen. On a number of occasions the Israeli military has opened fire against the civilian fishermen in order to enforce the 9 nautical mile limit imposed on them. The Oslo Accords make provision for Gaza’s sea to be fished to 20 nautical miles.

The West Bank

IOF have continued to impose a strict siege on Palestinian communities in the West Bank. They have continued to impose severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians and imposed curfews on a number of Palestinian communities.

· Ramallah: IOF have imposed severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. They re-established their presence at ‘Attara checkpoint, north of Ramallah. IOF also erected a checkpoint near “Oufra” settlement. According to eyewitnesses, IOF positioned at the two checkpoints prevented Palestinians coming from the northern West Bank from entering the town. Palestinian civilians were forced to take alternative longer roads.

· Nablus: IOF have continued to impose severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. During the reported period, IOF have continued to impose severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. During the reported period, IOF continued to separate the north of the West Bank from the center and south. For this purpose, they erected more checkpoints on the main road linking the north with the south of the West Bank. On Saturday morning, 27 May 2006, IOF positioned at various checkpoints around Nablus imposed additional restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. On Sunday morning, 28 May 2006, IOF positioned at Beit Eiba checkpoint, west of Nablus, imposed additional restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. They prevented Palestinian aged under 30 from passing through the checkpoint. On Monday morning, 29 May 2006, IOF closed all checkpoints around Nablus. At approximately 19:00, IOF partially reopened those checkpoints. On Tuesday morning, 30 May 2006, IOF positioned at Za’tara checkpoint, south of Nablus, imposed additional restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. They prevented residents of Tulkarm and Jenin, especially those who are under 30, from crossing the checkpoint. At noon, IOF positioned at Hawara checkpoint, south of Nablus, prevented, for no apparent reason, Palestinian girls aged under 25 from leaving the city.

On Thursday evening, 26 May 2006, IOF positioned at a checkpoint on the Yassid–Beit Emrin road, northwest of Nablus, arrested Hussam ‘Abdul Rahman Zaher, 29, from Yassid village.

On Wednesday afternoon, 31 May 2006, IOF positioned at Beit Eiba checkpoint, west of Nablus, arrested an unidentified Palestinian child. They claimed that the child was carrying explosives.

· Tulkarm: IOF have continued to impose severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. At approximately 06:00 on Thursday, 25 May 2006, IOF closed Ertah crossing, west of Tulkarm, and prevented Palestinian workers and vehicles from entering Israel. At the same time, IOF positioned at Wad al-Teen checkpoint, south of Tulkarm, imposed additional restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. On Friday, 26 May 2006, IOF erected a checkpoint at Bala’a intersection, east of Tulkarm. They stopped and searched Palestinian civilian vehicles. On Saturday, 27 May 2006, IOF positioned at Ennab checkpoint, east of Tulkarm, imposed additional restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians. They prevented civilians aged under 30 from crossing the checkpoint. They also chased dozens of civilians who had resorted to using alternative dirt roads. On Sunday, 28 May 2006, IOF erected a checkpoint at ‘Atteel intersection, north of Tulkarm. They imposed severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians in the area. On Wednesday, 31 May 2006, IOF erected a checkpoint at Bala’a intersection, east of Tullakrm. They stopped and searched Palestinian civilian vehicles and held dozens of young men. At approximately 10:00, IOF closed the checkpoint. In the morning, IOF erected a checkpoint at ‘Atteel intersection, north of Tulkarm. They stopped and searched Palestinian civilian vehicles.

At approximately 14:00 on Wednesday, 31 May 2006, IOF positioned at ‘Atteel checkpoint, north of Tulkarm, arrested Na’el Salem al-Kharouf, 29, from ‘Allar village north of Tulkarm.

· Jenin: IOF have continued to close the northern Jordan Valley. They have closed al-Hamara and Tayseer checkpoints. On Friday morning, 26 May 2006, IOF erected a checkpoint at the entrance of Tammoun village, southeast of Jenin. They stopped and searched Palestinian civilian vehicles. They also held a number of young men for two hours. On Saturday, 27 May 2006, IOF erected a checkpoint at the entrance of Tammoun village, southeast of Jenin. They stopped and searched Palestinian civilian vehicles. At the same time, IOF erected a checkpoint at the entrance of Masliya village, southeast of Jenin. They stopped and searched dozens of Palestinian civilian vehicles. On Saturday noon, 28 May 2006, IOF positioned at Tayaseer checkpoint, southeast of Jenin, held dozens of Palestinian civilians for a long time under the sun.

On Friday morning, 27 May 2006, IOF positioned at a checkpoint on the Jenin–Ya’bad road arrested Mahmoud Hamarsha, 20, and Khaled ‘Amarna, 22, both from Ya’bad village, southwest of Jenin.

· Hebron: IOF have continued to impose severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinian civilians in Hebron. On Friday noon, 26 May 2006, IOF closed Nabi Younis checkpoint. This closure continued for 4 hours. On Saturday noon, 27 May 2006, IOF positioned at a checkpoint on the northern entrance of Hebron prohibited the movement of Palestinian civilians to and from the town. On Sunday evening, 28 May 2006, IOF established a new military post to the southwest of al-‘Arroub refugee camp, north of Hebron, only 150 meters away from another military post that stands at the northwestern entrance of the refugee camp. The new post was established on an area of land belonging to Ibrahim Atwar Abu ‘Ayash, from Beit Ummar village, which was confiscated a few years ago.

On Tuesday, 30 May 2006, IOF positioned at Taqoumia crossing point, west of Hebron, arrested Mohammed Raji al-Battat, 15, from al-Zahiriya village south of Hebron.

On Wednesday evening, 31 May 2006, IOF positioned at a checkpoint in the old town of Hebron arrested an unidentified Palestinian civilian.

· Bethlehem: During the reported period, IOF prohibited the movement of Palestinian civilian vehicles on settler bypass road (60). At approximately 09:00 on Monday, 29 May 2006, IOF erected a checkpoint at al-Furaidees-Za’tara intersection, and another one at Taqqou’ intersection, south of Bethlehem. They stopped and searched Palestinian civilian vehicles.

On Tuesday evening, 30 May 2006, IOF positioned at the Container checkpoint near Bethlehem arrested Tha’er Mahmoud Doudin, 26, from Dura village southwest of Hebron.

3. Construction of the Annexation Wall

IOF have continued to construct the Annexation Wall inside West Bank territory.

· At approximately 13:30 on Friday, 26 May 2006, about 500 Palestinian civilians and 50 international and Israeli solidarity activists organized a peaceful demonstration in Bal’ein village, west of Ramallah, in protest to the construction of the Wall. IOF fired rubber-coated metal bullets, tear gas canisters and sound bombs at the demonstrators. As a result, 4 Palestinians civilians and 3 international and Israeli solidarity activists were wounded:

1. Mohammed Ahmed ‘Eissa, 17, wounded by a rubber-coated metal bullet to the head;
2. ‘Ouda Abu Rahma, 17, wounded by a rubber-coated metal bullet to the thigh;
3. ‘Omar Hisham Nasser, 20, wounded by a rubber-coated metal bullet to the head;
4. ‘Abdullah al-Rawashda, 21, hit by a tear gas canister to the chest;
5. Elizabeth, an international solidarity activist, hit by a sound bomb to the head;
6. Ana Steven, a Swedish solidarity activist, hit by a tear gas canister to the chest; and
7. Shai Ephrami, an Israeli solidarity activist, hit by a rubber-coated metal bullet to the head.

· On Monday, 29 May 2006, IOF issued a military order confiscating nearly 30 dunums of Palestinian agricultural land in al-Ja’ba village, northwest of Hebron. IOF had already confiscated at least 100 dunums of agricultural land in the village to establish a border crossing point on a settler road linking “Gush Etzion” settlement bloc with Beit Shemesh town inside Israel.

· Also on Monday, 29 May 2006, IOF handed notices to 4 Palestinian civilians in Sameeramis area, south of Ramallah, informing them that their houses would be demolished as they were allegedly built without licenses. According to local sources, the houses are located near a section of the Wall being constructed by IOF in the area.

· On Tuesday morning, 30 May 2006, IOF destroyed two bird farms in the al-Walaja area, northwest of Bethlehem: a 200-square-meter farm belonging to Haitham al-A’raj; and a 250-square-meter farm belonging to Shareef Abu ‘Ali. The two farms stood in the al-Zaher and al-Natouf areas, which were confiscated by IOF for construction of the Wall.

· Also on Tuesday morning, 30 May 2006, the Israeli High Court approved the construction of a section of the Wall around “Shavi Shomron” settlement, northwest of Nablus, near the Nablus–Jenin road. The court rejected petitions by local councils from Palestinian villages on whose lands the settlement stands. The petitioner argued that the construction of the Wall in the area impacts Palestinian villagers and will lead to the uprooting of hundreds of olive trees. The court claimed that “there is a balance between security needs and the Israeli population’s rights on one hand, and the Palestinian population’s rights on the other hand.” It is worth noting that the route of the Wall in the area will seize 53 dunums of land in the villages of Sabastia, al-Naqoura and Deir Sharaf; will lead to the uprooting of at least 350 olive trees; and will separate Palestinian farmers from their agricultural land, which will be located behind the Wall. This court ruling came 3 weeks after statements made by the Israeli Minster of Justice Haim Ramon before Israeli security officials on 9 May 2006, in which he vowed to make efforts with the judiciary to accelerate legal procedures to construct the remaining sections of the Wall. The Israeli High Court has issued two new decisions in this regard.

· At approximately 10:00 on Wednesday, 31 May 2006, dozens of Palestinian civilians and a number of members of the Christian Peacemaker Teams organized a peaceful demonstration in the Qawawis area near Kherbat Sousia village, to the east of Yatta village, south of Hebron. The demonstration was in protest against the closure of a road between Qawawis and al-Kareml areas by IOF in preparation for the construction of a new section of the Wall in the area. The demonstrators attempted to remove cement blocks placed on the road by IOF. Immediately, IOF fired sound bombs and tear gas canisters at the demonstrators. A number of demonstrators suffered from tear gas inhalation.

· During the reported period, IOF continued to raze areas of Palestinian land near the settler bypass road (60) to the east of Yatta village, south of Hebron, for the purpose of the construction of new sections of the Wall. IOF also completed the construction of 5 kilometers of a section of the Wall that extends from Munaizel village, southeast of Yatta village, to “Avigail” settlement outpost.

4. Settlement Activities and Attacks by Settlers against Palestinian Civilians and Property

Israeli settlers (living in the OPT in violation of international humanitarian law) have continued their attacks against Palestinian civilians and property:

· On Thursday, 25 May 2006, IOF handed a military order to the local council of Northern ‘Assira village, north of Nablus, seizing 5,400 square meters of land from January 2006 until 31 December 2007. They claimed that the seizure was for military necessities.

· At approximately 08:30 on Tuesday, 30 May 2006, IOF moved into Brouqin village, southwest of Nablus. Soon after, IOF demolished two Palestinian houses, claiming that they had been built without licenses: a 140-square-meter house belonging to Mowaffaq Fayez ‘Abdul Rahman; and a 130-square-meter house belonging to ‘Abdul ‘Aziz ‘Ezzat Khader. IOF also informed the owners of 8 other houses that their houses would also be demolished.
· At approximately 08:00 on Wednesday, 31 May 2006, IOF moved into Sha’b Sammour area in the north of Um al-Safa village, south of Hebron. They demolished a 170-square-meter building, in which 15 individuals lived, and a number of facilities belonging to Isma’il and Hammad ‘Olayan ‘Awad, and Mohammed ‘Ouda Abu Humaid. IOF claimed that these structures had been built without licenses. The owners of the buildings asserted that the demolition of their property was aimed at expanding “Ma’oun” and “Etana’il” settlements. IOF had also already handed notices to 4 civilians that their houses will be demolished:

1. A 150-square-meter house belonging to Sa’id Mohammed ‘Olayan, in which 10 individuals live;
2. A 100-square-meter house belonging to Ibrahim Hassan Daoud, in which 5 individuals live;
3. A 60-square-meter house belonging to ‘Eissa Abu Murair E’tiya, in which 6 individuals live; and
4. A 120-square-meter house belonging to Sami Hammad ‘Olayan.

Recommendations to the International Community

1. PCHR calls upon the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to fulfill their legal and moral obligations under Article 1 of the Convention to ensure Israel's respect for the Convention in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. PCHR believes that the conspiracy of silence practiced by the international community has encouraged Israel to act as if it is above the law and encourages Israel continue to violate international human rights and humanitarian law.

2. PCHR calls upon the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to convene a conference to take effective steps to ensure Israel's respect of the Convention in the OPT and to provide immediate protection for Palestinian civilians.

3. PCHR calls upon the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to comply with its legal obligations detailed in Article 146 of the Convention to search for and prosecute those responsible for grave breaches, namely war crimes.

4. PCHR recommends international civil society organizations, including human rights organizations, bar associations and NGOs to participate in the process of exposing those accused of grave breaches of international law and to urge their governments to bring these people to justice.

5. PCHR calls upon the European Union to activate Article 2 of the Euro-Israel Association Agreement, which provides that Israel must respect human rights as a precondition for economic cooperation between the EU states and Israel. PCHR further calls upon the EU states to prohibit import of goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements in the OPT.

6. PCHR calls upon the member States of the EU, and all other states, to adopt a voting pattern at the UN bodies, particularly the General Assembly, Security Council and Commission on Human Rights which is keeping with international law.

7. PCHR demands that the International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion be immediately implemented by the international community.

8. PCHR calls on the international community to recognize the Gaza disengagement plan for what it is - not an end to occupation but a compounding of the occupation and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

9. In recognition of the ICRC as the guardian of the Fourth Geneva Convention, PCHR calls upon the ICRC to increase its staff and activities in the OPT, including the facilitation of family visitations to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

10. PCHR appreciates the efforts of international civil society, including human rights organizations, bar associations, unions and NGOs, and urges them to continue their role in pressuring their governments to secure Israel's respect for human rights in the OPT and to end its attacks on Palestinian civilians.

11. In light of the severe restrictions imposed by the Israeli government and its occupying forces on access for international organizations to the OPT, PCHR calls upon European countries to deal with Israeli citizens in a similar manner.

12. PCHR reiterates that any political settlement not based on international human rights law and humanitarian law cannot lead to a peaceful and just solution of the Palestinian question. Rather, such an arrangement can only lead to further suffering and instability in the region. Any peace agreement or process must be based on respect for international law, including international human rights and humanitarian law. ~

Kids brandish toy guns at IDF

by Becky Johnson Saturday, Jun. 03, 2006 at 4:47 AM
Santa Cruz, CA.

The whole above report pretends that the Palestinians are just living their lives quietly while being constantly attacked by the IDF. Nothing could be further from the truth. Suppose YOU were a soldier stationed at a border crossing (per the agreement your govt. signed with the other govt.) and four kids approached you brandishing toy guns? Do you think there is a possibility that those kids could get fshot? What would happen in LA if four kids with toy guns snuck up on an LAPD officer? Isn't it possible the kids were providing a diversion so the real terrorists could get thru the border? Who lets kids engage in these kinds of dangerous activities? Where are their parents and teachers? Oh yes. They are ENCOURAGING them to engage in these kinds of activities!

Kids brandish guns to test IDF vigilance

By YAAKOV KATZ AND JPOST STAFF

A group of Palestinian children were sent towards the Gaza Strip border fence holding toy guns on Thursday in order to test the vigilance of the soldiers on duty.

From a distance, troops noticed four apparently armed Palestinians approaching the border north of the Kissufim crossing.

When the four were some 400 meters from the fence, the soldiers realized that they were children, who looked to be about 13 years of age, and that their guns were toys.

The Gaza security fence has become the scene of almost daily incidences of would-be infiltrations from the Gaza Strip, attempted terror attacks, and occasionally exchanges of fire. Earlier Thursday, IDF forces arrested two unarmed Palestinians who breached the fence in order to cross into Israel.

And only Monday, a Palestinian was shot and killed by IDF soldiers after they identified three men near the fence and fired at them, suspecting they intended to carry out an attack.

Damn it!

by it is the anti- Zionists! Saturday, Jun. 03, 2006 at 5:25 AM

Its their technique to drown out information they can't refute.
Unbelievable.

This is waht they are trying to drown out:

"Palestinians removed in 1947 with over a thousand years of history there are not allowed to return or become citizens. Don't you just love "Chutzpah"?"

BECKY: The vast majority of Arab Palestinians migrated to the land at the same time as the vast majority of Jewish immigrants---from 1880 to 1947. It's true, that in the 7th century, the Arab invaders did conquer Israel (which had been renamed "Palestine" by the Roman conquerors) and killed Jews, built their mosque on top of the Jews most holy site, and occupied the land for about 150 years or so until they were in turn conquered by the next group.

Since the Arab/Islamic control of the land was neither the first occupation, nor even the most long-lasting, its ridiculous to claim that these lands are "Palestinian Arab" lands.

The Ottoman Turks controlled the land far more recently and far longer!! It would make more sense to call the lands "Turkish" than "Palestinian".

The vast majority of Arabs fled on the advice of their own leaders. 62% left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier.

Israel repatriated 170,000 Arab refugees from the 1948 war between 1949 and 1993. These people filled out applications to return, went thru some kind of procedure where they showed documents proving they had fled Israel (such as a deed to a house, a birth certificate, or some other papers or evidence) and were checked to see that they weren't on a wanted terrorist watch list. These people were re-admitted to Israel and became Israeli citizens with full rights.

Scapegoated Jew is right that opinion polls show that only 10% of the current refugees (mostly decendants of the actual refugees) even WANT to return---and only 5% if Israel remains the controlling government.

Table of Weekly Parashiyot | Table of Special Parashiyot

Regular Public Torah Readings
Each week in synagogue, we read (or, more accurately, chant, because it is sung) a passage from the Torah. This passage is referred to as a parashah. The first parashah, for example, is Parashat Bereishit, which covers from the beginning of Genesis to the story of Noah. There are 54 parashahs (parashiyot), one for each week of a leap year, so that in the course of a year, we read the entire Torah (Genesis to Deuteronomy) in our services. During non-leap years, there are 50 weeks, so some of the shorter portions are doubled up. We reach the last portion of the Torah around a holiday called Simchat Torah (Rejoicing in the Law), which occurs in September or October, a few weeks after Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year). On Simchat Torah, we read the last portion of the Torah, and proceed immediately to the first paragraph of Genesis, showing that the Torah is a circle, and never ends.

In the synagogue service, the weekly parashah is followed by a passage from the prophets, which is referred to as a haftarah. Contrary to common misconception, "haftarah" does not mean "half-Torah". The word comes from a Hebrew root meaning end or conclusion. Usually, the haftarah portion is no longer than one chapter, and has some relation to the Torah portion of the week.

The Torah and haftarah readings are performed with great ceremony: the Torah is paraded around the room before it is brought to rest on the bimah (podium). The reading is divided up into portions, and various members of the congregation have the honor of reciting blessings over a portion of the reading and doing the reading. This honor is referred to as an "aliyah" (literally, ascension).

The first aliyah of any day's reading is customarily reserved for a kohein, the second for a Levite, and priority for subsequent aliyoth is given to people celebrating major life events, such as marriage or the birth of a child. In fact, a Bar Mitzvah was originally nothing more than the first aliyah of a boy who had reached the age to be permitted by custom such an honor (the Torah permits children to take an aliyah and to read, just like adults, and in Yemenite congregations most six-year-olds already can take an aliyah and read for themselves).

Celebrants of life events are customarily given the last aliyah, which includes blessings on the last part of the Torah reading as well as several blessings of the haftarah reading. The person given this honor is referred to as the "maftir", from the same root as haftarah, meaning the one who concludes.

For more information about services, see Jewish Liturgy.

Jewish scriptures are sometimes bound in a form that corresponds to this division into weekly readings. Scriptures bound in this way are generally referred to as a chumash. The word "chumash" comes from the Hebrew word meaning five, and refers to the five books of the Torah. Sometimes, the word chumash simply refers to a collection of the five books of the Torah. But often, a chumash contains the entire first five books, divided up by the weekly parashiyot, with the haftarah portion inserted after each week's parashah.

Table of Weekly Parashiyot
Below is a table of the regular weekly scriptural readings. Haftarot in parentheses indicate Sephardic ritual where it differs from Ashkenazic. There are other variations on the readings for Yemenites (and others), but these are the most commonly used ones. If you want to know the reading for this week, check the Current Calendar.

There are alternative and additional special readings for certain holidays and other special days, listed in a separate table below.

The only redeeming factor for your futile protest is you're too cognitively dissonant to recognize that an anti-Zionist is willing to disrupt debate on this site and dag its reputation in the mud in the process. If you really care about this site the way you claim to do, it's incumbent on you morally to appeal also to the anti-Zionist who's trying to drown out the refutations to anti-Zionist talking points and buzzwards.

Interesting how, after I commented that Yid would never spam the Christian Bible, they've changed the nature of the spam.
Another thing- today is a major Jewish holiday. Yids most likely in synagogue, not on the computer. He's that kind of guy.
The spaming started after Becky posted two very interesting comments. Clearly someone wanted them buried.

kinda like the Achilles Lauro false flag where one of 'you' killed a wheel chair bound Jew to blame it on the PLO.

Case in point, Victor Ostrowsky, a former Mossad agent writes in his book, “By Way of Deception, “ that a classic case of Mossad operations was the hijacking of the ship Achilles Lauro, which was purportedly hijacked by Palestinian fighters, and resulted in the death of a wheel chair bound passenger, Mr.Klinghofer.

Reader Beware!!

Reader Beware!!...
palestinians_firing_kassam_rockets.jpg, image/jpeg, 298x201

FROM THE LEAD ARTICLE: "Later on the same day, 3 Palestinian civilians, including a child, were killed and two children and a woman were wounded in Beit Lahia, when one of the victims attempted to check a shell fired by IOF at the northern Gaza Strip."

BECKY: See Al Jazeera's version of the same event:

"Medics at Kamel Adwan hospital said that the three died when the shelling hit a house.

But some security sources told Al Jazeera that the shell had landed near a house in Beit Lahia and was dragged into the building by three young men, after which it went off and killed them. The Israeli army said it was checking the report of the shelling."

source: http://www.palestinemonitor.org/nueva_web/updates_news/news/shelling_israel.htm

BECKY: I notice no mention is made of the daily Kassem rocket attacks from N. Gaza over the fence into Israeli towns and villages. The title of the article labels ALL the following reports as "Israeli human rights violations."

How can an IDF shell fired at the rocketeers of N. Gaza, and then dragged into a house by young Palestinians be blamed on Israel?

Wouldn't THIS be more of a work accident on the part of the Palestinians than exclusive IDF blame?

Where is any documentation of the fierce firefight that is going on in Gaza between Fatah and Hamas? Couldn't some of those killed be from Palestinian fire?

The authors believe that any dead Palestinian can be blamed on the IDF no matter who did the killing.
Readers beware: This report is both highly biased and of questionable accuracy.

The Palestinians elected Hamas with a solid majority

by Becky Johnson Sunday, Jun. 04, 2006 at 4:25 PM

Hardly. Each people is held accountable for their actions and for the actions of their leaders.

You just want to give the Palestinians a free pass no matter what they do (including mass murder/suicide of civilians---a clear war crime) while buying every bit of anti-Israel propaganda that comes out of the Arab world, and then holding the Israelis up to an impossible high standard.

(I bet you believed the Jenin "massacre" story in 2002 as well!)

Your own language shows you don't know how to NOT be biased and prejudiced against Jews. Yet, you are ready to sit in judgement on Israeli bias against Palestinians?

I never said the Israelis are right all the time. I never said that I dont want Palestinians to have a good life, with good housing, schools, hospitals, and food. YOU are the one who claims I am racist against Palestinians without providing a single quote from the hundreds of entries I have posted that I know you have read.

And--ONCE AGAIN--- I am not PAID for posting here, or anywhere else. I do not even self-identify as a Zionist--but I sure don't support the anti-Zionists around here who can barely masque their Jew-hatred in the cloak of anti-Zionism. That goes for you too, doggie.

SHEEPDOG: "The Palestinians elected Hamas with a solid majority" that's right. I wonder why these grateful ( of course for all the benefits that 'modern Israel' has bestowed .....

BECKY: You mean like the 166 health clinics, 7 universities, hospitals, roads, sewer systems, electrification grids, housing projects, and a sports stadium for the Palestinian Arabs on the West Bank and Israel? They SHOULD be grateful. Thanks to Israel, the Palestinians have one of the highest literacy rates in the Arab world and have a much more educated population as well.

SHEEPDOG: "...upon it's rightful inhabitants. "

BECKY: Certainly the Jews who have lived continuously in Palestine are "rightful inhabitants" as are those Zionists who purchased land and moved there in the first part of the 20th century. Don't Arabs rightfully belong in Arabia and Jews rightfully belong in Judea?

SHEEPDOG: "Before the program of slaughter took [ and continue to do so ] their homes away...

BECKY: The only "program of slaughter" was by the Arab leaders who raised armies to kill Jews en masse. 900,000 Jews had their homes and businesses taken away in Arab countries right after the founding of Israel. Very few homes are currently being demolished, and those because they were built illegally without permits.

SHEEPDOG: "oh well ) and you would like the 'Lay Down & Die' Palestinian party...."

BECKY: I'm not sure what Sheepdog is talking about here. Perhaps he means Abbas Fatah party which...gasp...had agreed to negotiate with Israel about setting up an independent country called Palestine. Ever heard of it?
Is this what dog means by "lay down and die?"

SHEEPDOG: " to 'assume' leadership."

BECKY: I never said anything of the kind. What the Palestinian leadership needs to do is to reign in the armed militias and discipline its security forces to follow commands and a rational policy of security and protection.

The PA has no business launching military attacks against Israel. They signed a peace treaty with them (Oslo) in 1993 and agreed to all terms including allowing Israel to control borders. Now they act like they are the abused party.
What nerve!

SHEEPDOG: "But I see the lethal arm of Israel's military has already begun assassinations of Hamas leaders.:''

BECKY: Known killers in the process of plotting more crimes.

SHEEPDOG: "For terrorism" ( resistance ) of course."

BECKY: So they DON"T send teenage suicide bombers in to kill innocent civilians in Israeli shopping malls? They AREN'T firing Kassem rockets over the fence two or three a day? And Hamas was just kidding when they said their mission was to destroy the state of Israel?

36,000 Permits issued to Palestinians in Jerusalem alone!

Santa Cruz, CA.

36,000 Permits issue...
brochure-in-arabic-how-to-get-building-permits.jpg, image/jpeg, 120x164

Illegal Construction in Jerusalem

Justus Reid Weiner

NGOs assert that Arab Jerusalemites have no choice but to build their homes illegally since the municipality systematically rejects their applications for building permits. Then they must contend with municipal inspectors who send bulldozers to demolish their homes.

Human rights lawyer Justus Reid Weiner, a scholar-in-residence at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, has just completed the first systematic study of illegal construction in Jerusalem. Based on scores of interviews from across the political spectrum - from Mayor Olmert to Sari Nusseibeh, original documents, and on-site inspections, Weiner's heavily illustrated new book discredits the conventional wisdom about the causes and effects of illegal building, and documents a pattern of politically-motivated behavior and criminal profiteering that characterizes much of the construction in the Arab sector of the Holy City.

In the Jewish neighborhoods, illegal construction typically takes the form of additions to existing legal structures - such as closing a balcony or hollowing out under a building to create an extra room. In the Arab sector, however, illegal construction often takes the form of entire multi-floor buildings with 4 to 25 living units, built with the financial assistance of the Palestinian Authority on land that is not owned by the builder.

Illegal construction has reached epidemic proportions. A senior Palestinian official boasted that they have built 6,000 homes without permits during the last 4 years, of which less than 200 were demolished by the city.

This frantic pace of illegal construction continues despite the fact that the city has authorized more than 36,000 permits for new housing units in the Arab sector, more than enough to meet the needs of Arab residents through legal construction until 2020.

Arab residents who wish to build legally may consult urban plans translated into Arabic for their convenience and receive individual assistance from Arabic-speaking city employees.

Both Arabs and Jews typically wait 4-6 weeks for permit approval, enjoy a similar rate of application approvals, and pay an identical fee ($3,600) for water and sewage hook-ups on the same size living unit.

The same procedures for administrative demolition orders apply to both Jews and Arabs in all parts of the city, as a final backstop to remove structures built illegally on roadbeds or land designated for schools, clinics, and the like.

The Palestinian Authority and Arab governments have spent hundreds of millions of dollars in an intentional campaign to subsidize and encourage massive illegal construction in the Arab sector, seeing this as part of their "demographic war" against Israel.

Many large, multi-story, luxury structures have been built by criminals on land they do not own, frequently land belonging to Palestinian Christians living abroad.
This epidemic of illegal construction is similar to illegal building that troubles cities in scores of countries worldwide and where the authorities utilize the law to demolish the structures.

More than any single factor, the 35-year-long boycott of municipal politics by the Palestinian leadership has resulted in the continued imbalance in municipal services in Arab neighborhoods vis-a-vis Jewish neighborhoods.
Despite frequent accusations that the city's planning policy seeks to "Judaize" Jerusalem, the Arab population of the city has increased since 1967 from 27% to 32%. Moreover, since 1967 new Arab construction has outpaced Jewish construction.

Who will ultimately bear the burden of chaotic development and an eroded quality of life in the Arab neighborhoods? Are their long-term interests served by the Palestinian Authority's "demographic war" or the profiteering of land thieves?

Illegal Construction in Jerusalem (172 pp. including a fold-out map, charts, tables, documents, and aerial photographs) is available from the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, 02-561-9281, for $50 + postage ($10 airmail to North America; $6 airmail to Europe; $2 surface mail in Israel).

BECKY: Visit the website to see more information including charts and graphs. I hope this quickly puts to rest your (false) claim that Palestinians are never issued permits!

that was of course another zionist author from the public relations of the Israeli ministry of truth.
then we could see another perspective from the side of the people involved rather than their oppressors.

Anwar Darkazally, a legal advisor to the Palestine Liberation Organization's (PLO) Negotiations Affairs Department. Darkazally and his colleague Amjad Atallah, described the dangers of Israel's separation wall in Jerusalem and the political ramifications of Israel's actions during a 23 September 2003 Palestine Center briefing.
For 36 years, Israel has embarked on two simultaneous projects in east Jerusalem. The first is an aggressive Israeli attempt to create facts on the ground that would forever link east Jerusalem to west Jerusalem and Israel. The second is to try to limit Palestinian natural growth as much as possible. Darkazally said Israel has established a demographic balance of 70 percent Israeli to 30 percent Palestinian in east Jerusalem. To limit natural growth, Israel has revoked Palestinian residencies, demolished Palestinian homes, and stringently limited building permits given to Palestinians. According to Darkazally's research, since occupying Jerusalem in 1967, Israel has demolished 2,000 Palestinian homes while 2,000 others are pending. From 1967 to 2001, 6,500 residencies have been revoked. Palestinians were granted 500 building permits compared to 65,000 for Israelis. With such conditions, Palestinians are forced out of Jerusalem. "The demographic battle on one hand and the creation of facts on the ground on the other hand will bring all of Jerusalem under Israeli control," Darkazally said.
One example of this is the Maghariba Quarter in the Old City. Immediately after the occupation the entire quarter was destroyed. Over 6,000 people were made homeless. Today that space is what is called the Wailing Wall Plaza.-
from a ( can you imagine that?) non Israeli site.

So how do you account for Population statistics then?

Santa Cruz, CA.

So how do you accoun...
mt_zion_aerial.jpg, image/jpeg, 400x300

What do we do when our sources disagree?

SHEEPDOG'S PALESTINIAN SOURCE:

"From 1967 to 2001, 6,500 residencies have been revoked. Palestinians were granted 500 building permits compared to 65,000 for Israelis."

BECKY'S JERUSALEM MUNICIPALITY SOURCE:

"This frantic pace of illegal construction continues despite the fact that the city has authorized more than 36,000 permits for new housing units in the Arab sector, more than enough to meet the needs of Arab residents through legal construction until 2020."

BECKY: Let's look for other clues!!

How about some population data for Jews/non-Jews in Jerusalem. If the Arab population has been dropping, perhaps Sheepdog's source is correct.

1967
Jews -- 197,700
non-Jews -- 71,800

2000
Jews -- 448,820
non-Jews -- 208,723

BECKY: Hmmmmm. It appears that the Arab population has been growing in the same period in which all those homes were destroyed and only 500 permits issued!!
Perhaps my population sources are ZIONIST and hence a "pack of lies". If TEN TIMES the number of permits were issued for Jews as opposed to Arabs, then wouldn't we expect the Jewish population to increase ten times faster than the Arab population? But we see that both populations have increased by similar percentages in the time period.

Sheepdog likes readers to assume that if an Israeli or a Jew reports something, we can automatically consider it a lie. But his "data" is even more suspect.

Got corroborating data, dog?

Just how many escape hatches?

by Scapegoated Jew Monday, Jun. 05, 2006 at 9:11 AM

"[ Ms. BJ is of course totally avoiding the Stern and Shinbet marauding death squads who's leaders became 'Israel's' leaders..]"

There he goes again, finding ever-increasingly indirect ways to excuse deliberate Arab murder and blame the Jews for being murdered. Blaming the victim with an irrelevant allusion to "The Stern and Shinbet "marauding death squads [sic]". More evidence of how he expects much less from Arabs than Jews morally.

"[ and the Palestinians had to reap the distain of zionist because of this reported migration? ]"

You mean the "Palestinians" that had been squatting on land since a year before or 2.5 decades ago? And/or the "Palestinians" who just left Israel for Arab lands of their own volition?

"[ I would sure like to see how easy is is to obtain building permits for Palestinians.. ]"

Then make a temporary break with your freeloading existence in the US, get off your butt and fly over to PA administered territory. Get to learn the real facts for a change instead of spouting off your pathetic anti-Israel propaganda ad infinitum. Then your ramblings just might be taken a bit more seriously.

well I tell you what.
If you stop
Buldozing homes, sometimes when occupied or unarmed ISM activists if they get 'in the way'.
Continuing to pump the aquifers dry so local hand dug wells dry up.
Pushing the Palestinians into shrinking starving crowded ghettos and making life inside them a living hell ( could be one reason that 'arabs' would rather live in the unoccupied territories) where a military strike or armored intrusion can occur at the whim of the IDF.

The you can repay your own 'karma'.

"Buldozing homes, sometimes when occupied or unarmed ISM activists if they get 'in the way'. "

This was the farthest I read in your spiel.
Frankly, you've got the moral duty to advise your nutcase and bugeyed zealot ISM pals to stay home in America, otherwise they deserve to have any edifice bulldozed down on them for all I'm concerned. Start by conveying the message to both Paul LaRudee and Brian Molvany as they're likely your neighbors in Cal.

continue to astound

by Judasgoat's imp Monday, Jun. 05, 2006 at 12:23 PM

you continue to astound me... You, a zionist are calling me a zealot?
But I suppose zionism is the philosophy of twisting the obvious into a bazarro
inversion of reality.
Israel as the injured party and all the lies to make that seem plausible... until it is examined.

Santa Cruz, CA.

Israel does not bulldoze homes with people still in them.

Israel has bulldozed very few homes lately ---despite a backlog of red-tagged structures built without permits on land without proper title.

And as for "activists who get in the way" it was the ISM handlers who told Rachel Corrie to kneel in front of that bulldozer.

He didn't see her in time, and tragically she was kiled.
the ISM is clearly to blame for continuously putting her in harm's way.

Even Joseph Smith said her death was worth more than her life.

when your fellow activists prefer to see you dead, its time to find new activists to work with.

I've got an idea

by Scapegoated Jew Tuesday, Jun. 06, 2006 at 9:14 AM

If the dog is so infatuated with the ISM's cause, how about he enlist and fly over to Judea-Samaria -- he's not yet known to Israeli border police officials, so he wouldn't have real trouble entering -- to lend a helping hand? He'll be consistent with his online ravings and get a chance to have an IDF member martyr him. That'd be a win-win situation.

The ISM volunteers are just useful idiots cynically manipulated by the Palestinians for publicity purposes. Its a way of indoctrinating idealistic young people into a war zone in order to get the deaths of non-Palestinians on the front page.

Exodus
1,1 Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt with Jacob; every man came with his household: 1,2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah; 1,3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin; 1,4 Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. 1,5 And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls; and Joseph was in Egypt already. 1,6 And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation. 1,7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them. {P}

1,8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph. 1,9 And he said unto his people: 'Behold, the people of the children of Israel are too many and too mighty for us; 1,10 come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there befalleth us any war, they also join themselves unto our enemies, and fight against us, and get them up out of the land.' 1,11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh store-cities, Pithom and Raamses. 1,12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And they were adread because of the children of Israel. 1,13 And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour. 1,14 And they made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field; in all their service, wherein they made them serve with rigour. 1,15 And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah; 1,16 and he said: 'When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, ye shall look upon the birthstool: if it be a son, then ye shall kill him; but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.' 1,17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men-children alive. 1,18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them: 'Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men-children alive?' 1,19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh: 'Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwife come unto them.' 1,20 And God dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. 1,21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that He made them houses. 1,22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying: 'Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.' {P}

2,1 And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. 2,2 And the woman conceived, and bore a son; and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. 2,3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch; and she put the child therein, and laid it in the flags by the river's brink. 2,4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him. 2,5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe in the river; and her maidens walked along by the river-side; and she saw the ark among the flags, and sent her handmaid to fetch it. 2,6 And she opened it, and saw it, even the child; and behold a boy that wept. And she had compassion on him, and said: 'This is one of the Hebrews' children.' 2,7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter: 'Shall I go and call thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?' 2,8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her: 'Go.' And the maiden went and called the child's mother. 2,9 And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her: 'Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages.' And the woman took the child, and nursed it. 2,10 And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses, and said: 'Because I drew him out of the water.' 2,11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown up, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens; and he saw an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his brethren. 2,12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he smote the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand. 2,13 And he went out the second day, and, behold, two men of the Hebrews were striving together; and he said to him that did the wrong: 'Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?' 2,14 And he said: 'Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us? thinkest thou to kill me, as thou didst kill the Egyptian?' And Moses feared, and said: 'Surely the thing is known.' 2,15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well. 2,16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters; and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock. 2,17 And the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock. 2,18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he said: 'How is it that ye are come so soon to-day?' 2,19 And they said: 'An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and moreover he drew water for us, and watered the flock.' 2,20 And he said unto his daughters: 'And where is he? Why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.' 2,21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man; and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter. 2,22 And she bore a son, and he called his name Gershom; for he said: 'I have been a stranger in a strange land.' {P}

2,23 And it came to pass in the course of those many days that the king of Egypt died; and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. 2,24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 2,25 And God saw the children of Israel, and God took cognizance of them. {S} 3,1 Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the farthest end of the wilderness, and came to the mountain of God, unto Horeb. 3,2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3,3 And Moses said: 'I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.' 3,4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said: 'Moses, Moses.' And he said: 'Here am I.' 3,5 And He said: 'Draw not nigh hither; put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.' 3,6 Moreover He said: 'I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. 3,7 And the LORD said: 'I have surely seen the affliction of My people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their pains; 3,8 and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. 3,9 And now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto Me; moreover I have seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 3,10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth My people the children of Israel out of Egypt.' 3,11 And Moses said unto God: 'Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?' 3,12 And He said: 'Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be the token unto thee, that I have sent thee: when thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.' 3,13 And Moses said unto God: 'Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them: The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me: What is His name? what shall I say unto them?' 3,14 And God said unto Moses: 'I AM THAT I AM'; and He said: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: I AM hath sent me unto you.' 3,15 And God said moreover unto Moses: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you; this is My name for ever, and this is My memorial unto all generations. 3,16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them: The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, hath appeared unto me, saying: I have surely remembered you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt. 3,17 And I have said: I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, unto a land flowing with milk and honey. 3,18 And they shall hearken to thy voice. And thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him: The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, hath met with us. And now let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God. 3,19 And I know that the king of Egypt will not give you leave to go, except by a mighty hand. 3,20 And I will put forth My hand, and smite Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in the midst thereof. And after that he will let you go. 3,21 And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. And it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty; 3,22 but every woman shall ask of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment; and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.' 4,1 And Moses answered and said: 'But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice; for they will say: The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.' 4,2 And the LORD said unto him: 'What is that in thy hand?' And he said: 'A rod.' 4,3 And He said: 'Cast it on the ground.' And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it. 4,4 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Put forth thy hand, and take it by the tail--and he put forth his hand, and laid hold of it, and it became a rod in his hand-- 4,5 that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.' 4,6 And the LORD said furthermore unto him: 'Put now thy hand into thy bosom.' And he put his hand into his bosom; and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, as white as snow. 4,7 And He said: 'Put thy hand back into thy bosom.--And he put his hand back into his bosom; and when he took it out of his bosom, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.-- 4,8 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign. 4,9 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe even these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land; and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.' 4,10 And Moses said unto the LORD: 'Oh Lord, I am not a man of words, neither heretofore, nor since Thou hast spoken unto Thy servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.' 4,11 And the LORD said unto him: 'Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh a man dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? is it not I the LORD? 4,12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt speak.' 4,13 And he said: 'Oh Lord, send, I pray Thee, by the hand of him whom Thou wilt send.' 4,14 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and He said: 'Is there not Aaron thy brother the Levite? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee; and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. 4,15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put the words in his mouth; and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do. 4,16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people; and it shall come to pass, that he shall be to thee a mouth, and thou shalt be to him in God's stead. 4,17 And thou shalt take in thy hand this rod, wherewith thou shalt do the signs.' {P}

4,18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said unto him: 'Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren that are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive.' And Jethro said to Moses: 'Go in peace.' 4,19 And the LORD said unto Moses in Midian: 'Go, return into Egypt; for all the men are dead that sought thy life.' 4,20 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt; and Moses took the rod of God in his hand. 4,21 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'When thou goest back into Egypt, see that thou do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in thy hand; but I will harden his heart, and he will not let the people go. 4,22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh: Thus saith the LORD: Israel is My son, My first-born. 4,23 And I have said unto thee: Let My son go, that he may serve Me; and thou hast refused to let him go. Behold, I will slay thy son, thy first-born.'-- 4,24 And it came to pass on the way at the lodging-place, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him. 4,25 Then Zipporah took a flint, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet; and she said: 'Surely a bridegroom of blood art thou to me.' 4,26 So He let him alone. Then she said: 'A bridegroom of blood in regard of the circumcision.' {P}

4,27 And the LORD said to Aaron: 'Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.' And he went, and met him in the mountain of God, and kissed him. 4,28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD wherewith He had sent him, and all the signs wherewith He had charged him. 4,29 And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel. 4,30 And Aaron spoke all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people. 4,31 And the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD had remembered the children of Israel, and that He had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped. 5,1 And afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said unto Pharaoh: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Let My people go, that they may hold a feast unto Me in the wilderness.' 5,2 And Pharaoh said: 'Who is the LORD, that I should hearken unto His voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, and moreover I will not let Israel go.' 5,3 And they said: 'The God of the Hebrews hath met with us. Let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest He fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.' 5,4 And the king of Egypt said unto them: 'Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, cause the people to break loose from their work? get you unto your burdens.' 5,5 And Pharaoh said: 'Behold, the people of the land are now many, and will ye make them rest from their burdens?' 5,6 And the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying: 5,7 'Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore. Let them go and gather straw for themselves. 5,8 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish aught thereof; for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying: Let us go and sacrifice to our God. 5,9 Let heavier work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard lying words.' 5,10 And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying: 'Thus saith Pharaoh: I will not give you straw. 5,11 Go yourselves, get you straw where ye can find it; for nought of your work shall be diminished.' 5,12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw. 5,13 And the taskmasters were urgent, saying: 'Fulfil your work, your daily task, as when there was straw.' 5,14 And the officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, saying: 'Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your appointed task in making brick both yesterday and today as heretofore?' 5,15 Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying: 'Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants? 5,16 There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us: Make brick; and, behold, thy servants are beaten, but the fault is in thine own people.' 5,17 But he said: 'Ye are idle, ye are idle; therefore ye say: Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD. 5,18 Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.' 5,19 And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were set on mischief, when they said: 'Ye shall not diminish aught from your bricks, your daily task.' 5,20 And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh; 5,21 and they said unto them: 'The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.' 5,22 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said: 'Lord, wherefore hast Thou dealt ill with this people? why is it that Thou hast sent me? 5,23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Thy name, he hath dealt ill with this people; neither hast Thou delivered Thy people at all.' 6,1 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh; for by a strong hand shall he let them go, and by a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.' {S} 6,2 And God spoke unto Moses, and said unto him: 'I am the LORD; 6,3 and I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name YHWH I made Me not known to them. 6,4 And I have also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings, wherein they sojourned. 6,5 And moreover I have heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered My covenant. 6,6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel: I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments; 6,7 and I will take you to Me for a people, and I will be to you a God; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. 6,8 And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning which I lifted up My hand to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for a heritage: I am the LORD.' 6,9 And Moses spoke so unto the children of Israel; but they hearkened not unto Moses for impatience of spirit, and for cruel bondage. {P}

6,10 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 6,11 'Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.' 6,12 And Moses spoke before the LORD, saying: 'Behold, the children of Israel have not hearkened unto me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcised lips?' {P}

6,13 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, and gave them a charge unto the children of Israel, and unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt. {S} 6,14 These are the heads of their fathers' houses: the sons of Reuben the first-born of Israel: Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. These are the families of Reuben. 6,15 And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman. These are the families of Simeon. 6,16 And these are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon and Kohath, and Merari. And the years of the life of Levi were a hundred thirty and seven years. 6,17 The sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei, according to their families. 6,18 And the sons of Kohath: Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel. And the years of the life of Kohath were a hundred thirty and three years. 6,19 And the sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their generations. 6,20 And Amram took him Jochebed his father's sister to wife; and she bore him Aaron and Moses. And the years of the life of Amram were a hundred and thirty and seven years. 6,21 And the sons of Izhar: Korah, and Nepheg, and Zichri. 6,22 And the sons of Uzziel: Mishael, and Elzaphan, and Sithri. 6,23 And Aaron took him Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab, the sister of Nahshon, to wife; and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 6,24 And the sons of Korah: Assir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph; these are the families of the Korahites. 6,25 And Eleazar Aaron's son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers' houses of the Levites according to their families. 6,26 These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the LORD said: 'Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their hosts.' 6,27 These are they that spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt. These are that Moses and Aaron. 6,28 And it came to pass on the day when the LORD spoke unto Moses in the land of Egypt, {S} 6,29 that the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 'I am the LORD; speak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I speak unto thee.' 6,30 And Moses said before the LORD: 'Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh hearken unto me?' {P}

7,1 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'See, I have set thee in God's stead to Pharaoh; and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet. 7,2 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee; and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land. 7,3 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt. 7,4 But Pharaoh will not hearken unto you, and I will lay My hand upon Egypt, and bring forth My hosts, My people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt, by great judgments. 7,5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth My hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.' 7,6 And Moses and Aaron did so; as the LORD commanded them, so did they. 7,7 And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spoke unto Pharaoh. {P}

7,8 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying: 7,9 'When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying: Show a wonder for you; then thou shalt say unto Aaron: Take thy rod, and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it become a serpent.' 7,10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so, as the LORD had commanded; and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent. 7,11 Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers; and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did in like manner with their secret arts. 7,12 For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents; but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods. 7,13 And Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken. {S} 7,14 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Pharaoh's heart is stubborn, he refuseth to let the people go. 7,15 Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river's brink to meet him; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thy hand. 7,16 And thou shalt say unto him: The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, hath sent me unto thee, saying: Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness; and, behold, hitherto thou hast not hearkened; 7,17 thus saith the LORD: In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD--behold, I will smite with the rod that is in my hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood. 7,18 And the fish that are in the river shall die, and the river shall become foul; and the Egyptians shall loathe to drink water from the river.' {S} 7,19 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Say unto Aaron: Take thy rod, and stretch out thy hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, and over their pools, and over all their ponds of water, that they may become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.' 7,20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. 7,21 And the fish that were in the river died; and the river became foul, and the Egyptians could not drink water from the river; and the blood was throughout all the land of Egypt. 7,22 And the magicians of Egypt did in like manner with their secret arts; and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken. 7,23 And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he lay even this to heart. 7,24 And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river. 7,25 And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the river. {P}

7,26 And the LORD spoke unto Moses: 'Go in unto Pharaoh, and say unto him: Thus saith the LORD: Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 7,27 And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs. 7,28 And the river shall swarm with frogs, which shall go up and come into thy house, and into thy bed-chamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneading-troughs. 7,29 And the frogs shall come up both upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants.' 8,1 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Say unto Aaron: Stretch forth thy hand with thy rod over the rivers, over the canals, and over the pools, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.' 8,2 And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt. 8,3 And the magicians did in like manner with their secret arts, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt. 8,4 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said: 'Entreat the LORD, that He take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice unto the LORD.' 8,5 And Moses said unto Pharaoh: 'Have thou this glory over me; against what time shall I entreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, that the frogs be destroyed from thee and thy houses, and remain in the river only?' 8,6 And he said: 'Against to-morrow.' And he said: 'Be it according to thy word; that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God. 8,7 And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only.' 8,8 And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh; and Moses cried unto the LORD concerning the frogs, which He had brought upon Pharaoh. 8,9 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the courts, and out of the fields. 8,10 And they gathered them together in heaps; and the land stank. 8,11 But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken. {S} 8,12 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Say unto Aaron: Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the earth, that it may become gnats throughout all the land of Egypt.' 8,13 And they did so; and Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and there were gnats upon man, and upon beast; all the dust of the earth became gnats throughout all the land of Egypt. 8,14 And the magicians did so with their secret arts to bring forth gnats, but they could not; and there were gnats upon man, and upon beast. 8,15 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh: 'This is the finger of God'; and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken. {S} 8,16 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him: Thus saith the LORD: Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 8,17 Else, if thou wilt not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses; and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are. 8,18 And I will set apart in that day the land of Goshen, in which My people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end that thou mayest know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth. 8,19 And I will put a division between My people and thy people--by to-morrow shall this sign be.' 8,20 And the LORD did so; and there came grievous swarms of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses; and in all the land of Egypt the land was ruined by reason of the swarms of flies. 8,21 And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said: 'Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land.' 8,22 And Moses said: 'It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God; lo, if we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, will they not stone us? 8,23 We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as He shall command us.' 8,24 And Pharaoh said: 'I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away; entreat for me.' 8,25 And Moses said: 'Behold, I go out from thee, and I will entreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, tomorrow; only let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.' 8,26 And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and entreated the LORD. 8,27 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and He removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; there remained not one. 8,28 And Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and he did not let the people go. {P}

9,1 Then the LORD said unto Moses: 'Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him: Thus saith the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 9,2 For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still, 9,3 behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which are in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the herds, and upon the flocks; there shall be a very grievous murrain. 9,4 And the LORD shall make a division between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt; and there shall nothing die of all that belongeth to the children of Israel.' 9,5 And the LORD appointed a set time, saying: 'Tomorrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land.' 9,6 And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died; but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one. 9,7 And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not so much as one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he did not let the people go. {P}

9,8 And the LORD said unto Moses and unto Aaron: 'Take to you handfuls of soot of the furnace, and let Moses throw it heavenward in the sight of Pharaoh. 9,9 And it shall become small dust over all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt.' 9,10 And they took soot of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses threw it up heavenward; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast. 9,11 And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boils were upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians. 9,12 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken unto Moses. {S} 9,13 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him: Thus saith the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 9,14 For I will this time send all My plagues upon thy person, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like Me in all the earth. 9,15 Surely now I had put forth My hand, and smitten thee and thy people with pestilence, and thou hadst been cut off from the earth. 9,16 But in very deed for this cause have I made thee to stand, to show thee My power, and that My name may be declared throughout all the earth. 9,17 As yet exaltest thou thyself against My people, that thou wilt not let them go? 9,18 Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the day it was founded even until now. 9,19 Now therefore send, hasten in thy cattle and all that thou hast in the field; for every man and beast that shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.' 9,20 He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses; 9,21 and he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field. {P}

9,22 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Stretch forth thy hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.' 9,23 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven; and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down unto the earth; and the LORD caused to hail upon the land of Egypt. 9,24 So there was hail, and fire flashing up amidst the hail, very grievous, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 9,25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field. 9,26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail. 9,27 And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them: 'I have sinned this time; the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked. 9,28 Entreat the LORD, and let there be enough of these mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer.' 9,29 And Moses said unto him: 'As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread forth my hands unto the LORD; the thunders shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know that the earth is the LORD'S. 9,30 But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God.'-- 9,31 And the flax and the barley were smitten; for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bloom. 9,32 But the wheat and the spelt were not smitten; for they ripen late.-- 9,33 And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread forth his hands unto the LORD; and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth. 9,34 And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants. 9,35 And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the children of Israel go; as the LORD had spoken by Moses. {P}

10,1 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Go in unto Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might show these My signs in the midst of them; 10,2 and that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what I have wrought upon Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them; that ye may know that I am the LORD.' 10,3 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before Me? let My people go, that they may serve Me. 10,4 Else, if thou refuse to let My people go, behold, to-morrow will I bring locusts into thy border; 10,5 and they shall cover the face of the earth, that one shall not be able to see the earth; and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field; 10,6 and thy houses shall be filled, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; as neither thy fathers nor thy fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day.' And he turned, and went out from Pharaoh. 10,7 And Pharaoh's servants said unto him: 'How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God, knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?' 10,8 And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh; and he said unto them: 'Go, serve the LORD your God; but who are they that shall go?' 10,9 And Moses said: 'We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds we will go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD.' 10,10 And he said unto them: 'So be the LORD with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones; see ye that evil is before your face. 10,11 Not so; go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that is what ye desire.' And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence. {S} 10,12 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Stretch out thy hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left.' 10,13 And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all the night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. 10,14 And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt; very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such. 10,15 For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left; and there remained not any green thing, either tree or herb of the field, through all the land of Egypt. 10,16 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said: 'I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you. 10,17 Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and entreat the LORD your God, that He may take away from me this death only.' 10,18 And he went out from Pharaoh, and entreated the LORD. 10,19 And the LORD turned an exceeding strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea; there remained not one locust in all the border of Egypt. 10,20 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go. {P}

10,21 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Stretch out thy hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.' 10,22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days; 10,23 they saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings. 10,24 And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said: 'Go ye, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed; let your little ones also go with you.' 10,25 And Moses said: 'Thou must also give into our hand sacrifices and burnt-offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God. 10,26 Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not a hoof be left behind; for thereof must we take to serve the LORD our God; and we know not with what we must serve the LORD, until we come thither.' 10,27 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go. 10,28 And Pharaoh said unto him: 'Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in the day thou seest my face thou shalt die.' 10,29 And Moses said: 'Thou hast spoken well; I will see thy face again no more.' {P}

11,1 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Yet one plague more will I bring upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence; when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether. 11,2 Speak now in the ears of the people, and let them ask every man of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold.' 11,3 And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people. {S} 11,4 And Moses said: 'Thus saith the LORD: About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt; 11,5 and all the first-born in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first-born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the first-born of the maid-servant that is behind the mill; and all the first-born of cattle. 11,6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there hath been none like it, nor shall be like it any more. 11,7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog whet his tongue, against man or beast; that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel. 11,8 And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down unto me, saying: Get thee out, and all the people that follow thee; and after that I will go out.' And he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger. {S} 11,9 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Pharaoh will not hearken unto you; that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.' 11,10 And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh; and the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go out of his land. {S} 12,1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying: 12,2 'This month shall be unto you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you. 12,3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying: In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household; 12,4 and if the household be too little for a lamb, then shall he and his neighbour next unto his house take one according to the number of the souls; according to every man's eating ye shall make your count for the lamb. 12,5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year; ye shall take it from the sheep, or from the goats; 12,6 and ye shall keep it unto the fourteenth day of the same month; and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at dusk. 12,7 And they shall take of the blood, and put it on the two side-posts and on the lintel, upon the houses wherein they shall eat it. 12,8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 12,9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; its head with its legs and with the inwards thereof. 12,10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; but that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. 12,11 And thus shall ye eat it: with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste--it is the LORD'S passover. 12,12 For I will go through the land of Egypt in that night, and will smite all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD. 12,13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and there shall no plague be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. 12,14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial, and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever. 12,15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; howbeit the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses; for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. 12,16 And in the first day there shall be to you a holy convocation, and in the seventh day a holy convocation; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done by you. 12,17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore shall ye observe this day throughout your generations by an ordinance for ever. 12,18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even. 12,19 Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses; for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a sojourner, or one that is born in the land. 12,20 Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.' {P}

12,21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them: 'Draw out, and take you lambs according to your families, and kill the passover lamb. 12,22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side-posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning. 12,23 For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side-posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. 12,24 And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever. 12,25 And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as He hath promised, that ye shall keep this service. 12,26 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you: What mean ye by this service? 12,27 that ye shall say: It is the sacrifice of the LORD'S passover, for that He passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when He smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses.' And the people bowed the head and worshipped. 12,28 And the children of Israel went and did so; as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they. {S} 12,29 And it came to pass at midnight, that the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the first-born of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the first-born of cattle. 12,30 And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead. 12,31 And he called for Moses and Aaron by night and said: 'Rise up, get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said. 12,32 Take both your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also.' 12,33 And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, to send them out of the land in haste; for they said: 'We are all dead men.' 12,34 And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading-troughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders. 12,35 And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they asked of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment. 12,36 And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. And they despoiled the Egyptians. {P}

12,37 And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, beside children. 12,38 And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle. 12,39 And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt, for it was not leavened; because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any victual. 12,40 Now the time that the children of Israel dwelt in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years. 12,41 And it came to pass at the end of four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the host of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt. 12,42 It was a night of watching unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt; this same night is a night of watching unto the LORD for all the children of Israel throughout their generations. {P}

12,43 And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron: 'This is the ordinance of the passover: there shall no alien eat thereof; 12,44 but every man's servant that is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof. 12,45 A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat thereof. 12,46 In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth aught of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof. 12,47 All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. 12,48 And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land; but no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. 12,49 One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.' 12,50 Thus did all the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they. {S} 12,51 And it came to pass the selfsame day that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their hosts. {P}

13,1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 13,2 'Sanctify unto Me all the first-born, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast, it is Mine.' 13,3 And Moses said unto the people: 'Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place; there shall no leavened bread be eaten. 13,4 This day ye go forth in the month Abib. 13,5 And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which He swore unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month. 13,6 Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the LORD. 13,7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten throughout the seven days; and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee, in all thy borders. 13,8 And thou shalt tell thy son in that day, saying: It is because of that which the LORD did for me when I came forth out of Egypt. 13,9 And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thy hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the law of the LORD may be in thy mouth; for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt. 13,10 Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year. {P}

13,11 And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanite, as He swore unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee, 13,12 that thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the womb; every firstling that is a male, which thou hast coming of a beast, shall be the LORD'S. 13,13 And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break its neck; and all the first-born of man among thy sons shalt thou redeem. 13,14 And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying: What is this? that thou shalt say unto him: By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage; 13,15 and it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man, and the first-born of beast; therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the womb, being males; but all the first-born of my sons I redeem. 13,16 And it shall be for a sign upon thy hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes; for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.' {S} 13,17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said: 'Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt.' 13,18 But God led the people about, by the way of the wilderness by the Red Sea; and the children of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt. 13,19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him; for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying: 'God will surely remember you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.' 13,20 And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness. 13,21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; that they might go by day and by night: 13,22 the pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, departed not from before the people. {P}

14,1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 14,2 'Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal-zephon, over against it shall ye encamp by the sea. 14,3 And Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel: They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in. 14,4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he shall follow after them; and I will get Me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD.' And they did so. 14,5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people were fled; and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned towards the people, and they said: 'What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us? 14,6 And he made ready his chariots, and took his people with him. 14,7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them. 14,8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel; for the children of Israel went out with a high hand. 14,9 And the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon. 14,10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were sore afraid; and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD. 14,11 And they said unto Moses: 'Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt? 14,12 Is not this the word that we spoke unto thee in Egypt, saying: Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.' 14,13 And Moses said unto the people: 'Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will work for you to-day; for whereas ye have seen the Egyptians to-day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. 14,14 The LORD will fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.' {P}

14,15 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Wherefore criest thou unto Me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward. 14,16 And lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thy hand over the sea, and divide it; and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground. 14,17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall go in after them; and I will get Me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. 14,18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten Me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.' 14,19 And the angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud removed from before them, and stood behind them; 14,20 and it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness here, yet gave it light by night there; and the one came not near the other all the night. 14,21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 14,22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. 14,23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. 14,24 And it came to pass in the morning watch, that the LORD looked forth upon the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and discomfited the host of the Egyptians. 14,25 And He took off their chariot wheels, and made them to drive heavily; so that the Egyptians said: 'Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.' {P}

14,26 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Stretch out thy hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.' 14,27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 14,28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, even all the host of Pharaoh that went in after them into the sea; there remained not so much as one of them. 14,29 But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. 14,30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea-shore. 14,31 And Israel saw the great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians, and the people feared the LORD; and they believed in the LORD, and in His servant Moses. {P}

15,1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spoke, saying: I will sing unto the LORD, for He is highly exalted; the horse and his rider hath He thrown into the sea. 15,2 The LORD is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation; this is my God, and I will glorify Him; my father's God, and I will exalt Him. 15,3 The LORD is a man of war, The LORD is His name. 15,4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath He cast into the sea, and his chosen captains are sunk in the Red Sea. 15,5 The deeps cover them--they went down into the depths like a stone. 15,6 Thy right hand, O LORD, glorious in power, Thy right hand, O LORD, dasheth in pieces the enemy. 15,7 And in the greatness of Thine excellency Thou overthrowest them that rise up against Thee; Thou sendest forth Thy wrath, it consumeth them as stubble. 15,8 And with the blast of Thy nostrils the waters were piled up--the floods stood upright as a heap; the deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea. 15,9 The enemy said: 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.' 15,10 Thou didst blow with Thy wind, the sea covered them; they sank as lead in the mighty waters. 15,11 Who is like unto Thee, O LORD, among the mighty? who is like unto Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? 15,12 Thou stretchedst out Thy right hand--the earth swallowed them. 15,13 Thou in Thy love hast led the people that Thou hast redeemed; Thou hast guided them in Thy strength to Thy holy habitation. 15,14 The peoples have heard, they tremble; pangs have taken hold on the inhabitants of Philistia. 15,15 Then were the chiefs of Edom affrighted; the mighty men of Moab, trembling taketh hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away. 15,16 Terror and dread falleth upon them; by the greatness of Thine arm they are as still as a stone; till Thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over that Thou hast gotten. 15,17 Thou bringest them in, and plantest them in the mountain of Thine inheritance, the place, O LORD, which Thou hast made for Thee to dwell in, the sanctuary, O Lord, which Thy hands have established. 15,18 The LORD shall reign for ever and ever. 15,19 For the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought back the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea. {P}

15,20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. 15,21 And Miriam sang unto them: Sing ye to the LORD, for He is highly exalted: the horse and his rider hath He thrown into the sea. {S} 15,22 And Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. 15,23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. 15,24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying: 'What shall we drink?' 15,25 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, and he cast it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There He made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there He proved them; 15,26 and He said: 'If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His eyes, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon thee, which I have put upon the Egyptians; for I am the LORD that healeth thee.' {S} 15,27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve springs of water, and three score and ten palm-trees; and they encamped there by the waters. 16,1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt. 16,2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness; 16,3 and the children of Israel said unto them: 'Would that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh-pots, when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.' {S} 16,4 Then said the LORD unto Moses: 'Behold, I will cause to rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in My law, or not. 16,5 And it shall come to pass on the sixth day that they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.' 16,6 And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel: 'At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt; 16,7 and in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that He hath heard your murmurings against the LORD; and what are we, that ye murmur against us?' 16,8 And Moses said: 'This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against Him; and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.' 16,9 And Moses said unto Aaron: 'Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel: Come near before the LORD; for He hath heard your murmurings.' 16,10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spoke unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud. {P}

16,11 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 16,12 'I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak unto them, saying: At dusk ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.' 16,13

Maybe Tia and Becky Johnson can jointly devise a way to get the editors to mind this spam problem.

SY and Becky, do you think there's anything to my thesis about why the spam seems to be tolerated here?

I kinda understand...

by johnk Tuesday, Jun. 06, 2006 at 6:27 PM

I kinda understand why some IMCs have banned these threads. They're painful to read. They're almost impossible to read, unless you're an insider to all the issues being discussed.

If you are an American taxpayer,

by the source of the problem Tuesday, Jun. 06, 2006 at 7:27 PM

yur *are* an insider. You are intimately involved with the Zionist rape of Palestine because *you* foot the bill. Whether it is painful or not, you have a moral responsibility to:

(1.) educate yourself about how all the blood wound up on your hands

(2.) wash it off.

But....

by Tia Tuesday, Jun. 06, 2006 at 8:03 PM

Whether it is painful or not, you have a moral responsibility to:

(1.) educate yourself ....

And once you do you'll realize that:
There are 22 Arab nations with
800 times the land
50 times the people
And extensive oil reserves

And one itty bitty little Jewish state, the size of New Jersey.
And Israel, as a vigorous democracy deserves American support.

History supports the Zionist cause. Facts support the Zionist cause. Common sense, too. We want you educated. We want to engage you in dialog. We know if you read and learn, and we talk that we'll be one step closer to peace. Educating Americans, one person at a time. We're patient people.

You see this ...problem in Palestine/Israel is not merely some horrific program that effects the principles.
It is important to understand that with the current push to instigate a war w/ Iran, as well as our tragic involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq; a direct result of our nations 'partnership' w/ the members of our government who hold dual citizenship loyalties, and are furiously endeavoring to pilot our people into an abyss.
Of the further rendering of our society under the rubric of 'anti-terrorism' into a police state while our social infrastructure and civil rights are dissolved.
And as the unrestrained looting of our treasury continues.

'Sheepdog' and 'nessie' add to the problems

He's trying in vain to mask the fact he's singling out the Jews among the neocons with vile accusations, but the ruse can easily be seen through.

As for Doyle's "rape of Palestine" refrain, that's ppretty much what the Palis have been doing and all US taxpayers have footed the bill of State Dep. fiscal aid.

Sure. Post it along with your sources. When you say dual citizenship- are you saying they vote in both Israel and America, or that they maintain dual residency in both nations, or that they hold two passports?

Define your terms, Doggie

Sure just for drill...

by Judasgoat's imp Wednesday, Jun. 07, 2006 at 5:37 AM

okay, but since I haven't formated the sources, degrees and documentation to provide proof of the ares under current research ( more work ) I'll merely publish these names which are in public domain.

Here's a little on it:
http://www.oilempire.us/chertoff.html
Here's about some members (this is a bit old--2003) many of the names are familiar and many hold dual citizenship
Richard Perle
One of Bush's foreign policy advisors, he is the chairman of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board. A very likely Israeli government agent, Perle was expelled from Senator Henry Jackson's office in the 1970's after the National Security Agency (NSA) caught him passing Highly-Classified (National Security) documents to the Israeli Embassy. He later worked for the Israeli weapons firm, Soltam. Perle came from one the above mentioned pro-Israel thinktanks, the AEI. Perle is one of the leading pro-Israeli fanatics leading this Iraq war mongering within the administration and now in the media.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Paul Wolfowitz
Deputy Defense Secretary, and member of Perle's Defense Policy Board, in the Pentagon. Wolfowitz is a close associate of Perle, and reportedly has close ties to the Israeli military. His sister lives in Israel. Wolfowitz came from the above mentioned Jewish thinktank, JINSA. Wolfowitz is the number two leader within the administration behind this Iraq war mongering.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Douglas Feith
Under Secretary of Defense and Policy Advisor at the Pentagon. He is a close associate of Perle and served as his Special Counsel. Like Perle and the others, Feith is a pro-Israel extremist, who has advocated anti-Arab policies in the past. He is closely associated with the extremist group, the Zionist Organization of America, which even attacks Jews that don't agree with its extremist views. Feith frequently speaks at ZOA conferences. Feith runs a small law firm, Feith and Zell, which only has one International office, in Israel. The majority of their legal work is representing Israeli interests. His firm's own website stated, prior to his appointment, that Feith "represents Israeli Armaments Manufacturer." Feith basically represents the Israeli War Machine. Feith also came from the Jewish thinktank JINSA. Feith, like Perle and Wolfowitz, are campaigning hard for this Israeli proxy war against Iraq.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edward Luttwak
Member of the National Security Study Group of the Department of Defence at the Pentagon. Luttwak is reportedly an Israeli citizen and has taught in Israel. He frequently writes for Israeli and pro-Israeli newspapers and journals. Luttwak is an Israeli extremist whose main theme in many of his articles is the necessity of the U.S. waging war against Iraq.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Henry Kissinger
One of many Pentagon Advisors, Kissinger sits on the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board under Perle. For detailed information about Kissinger's evil past, read Seymour Hersch's book (Price of Power: Kissinger in the Nixon White House). Kissinger likely had a part in the Watergate crimes, Southeast Asia mass murders (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos), Installing Chilean mass murdering dictator Pinochet, Operation Condor's mass killings in South America, and more recently served as Serbia's Ex-Dictator Slobodan Milosevic's Advisor. He consistently advocates going to war against Iraq. Kissinger is the Ariel Sharon of the U.S. Unfortunately, President Bush nominated Kissinger as chairman of the September 11 investigating commission. It's like picking a bank robber to investigate a fraud scandal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dov Zakheim
Under Secretary of Defense, Comptroller, and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Department of Defense. He is an ordained rabbi and reportedly holds Israeli citizenship. Zakheim attended attended Jew’s College in London and became an ordained Orthodox Jewish Rabbi in 1973. He was adjunct professor at New York's Jewish Yeshiva University. Zakheim is close to the Israeli lobby.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kenneth Adelman
One of many Pentagon Advisors, Adelman also sits on the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board under Perle, and is another extremist pro-Israel advisor, who supports going to war against Iraq. Adelman frequently is a guest on Fox News, and often expresses extremist and often ridiculus anti-Arab and anti-Muslim views. Through his hatred or stupidity, he actually called Arabs "anti-Semitic" on Fox News (11/28/2001), when he could have looked it up in the dictionary to find out that Arabs by definition are Semites.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I. Lewis Libby
Vice President Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff. The chief pro-Israel Jewish advisor to Cheney, it helps explains why Cheney is so gun-ho to invade Iraq. Libby is longtime associate of Wolfowitz. Libby was also a lawyer for convicted felon and Israeli spy Marc Rich, whom Clinton pardoned, in his last days as president.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robert Satloff
U.S. National Security Council Advisor, Satloff was the executive director of the Israeli lobby's "think tank," Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Many of the Israeli lobby's "experts" come from this front group, like Martin Indyk.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elliott Abrams
National Security Council Advisor. He previously worked at Washington-based "Think Tank" Ethics and Public Policy Center. During the Reagan Adminstration, Abrams was the Assistant Secretary of State, handling, for the most part, Latin American affairs. He played an important role in the Iran-Contra Scandal, which involved illegally selling U.S. weapons to Iran to fight Iraq, and illegally funding the contra rebels fighting to overthrow Nicaragua's Sandinista government. He also actively deceived three congressional committees about his involvement and thereby faced felony charges based on his testimony. Abrams pled guilty in 1991 to two misdemeanors and was sentenced to a year's probation and 100 hours of community service. A year later, former President Bush (Senior) granted Abrams a full pardon. He was one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the Reagan Administration's State Department.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marc Grossman
Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. He was Director General of the Foreign Service and Director of Human Resources at the Department of State. Grossman is one of many of the pro-Israel Jewish officials from the Clinton Administration that Bush has promoted to higher posts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Richard Haass
Director of Policy Planning at the State Department and Ambassador at large. He is also Director of National Security Programs and Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). He was one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the first Bush (Sr) Administration who sat on the National Security Council, and who consistently advocates going to war against Iraq. Haass is also a member of the Defense Department's National Security Study Group, at the Pentagon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robert Zoellick
U.S. Trade Representative, a cabinet-level position. He is also one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the Bush (Jr) Administration who advocated invading Iraq and occupying a portion of the country in order to set up setting up a Vichy-style puppet government. He consistently advocates going to war against Iraq.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ari Fleischer
Official White House Spokesman for the Bush (Jr) Administration. Prominent in the Jewish community, some reports state that he holds Israeli citizenship. Fleischer is closely connected to the extremist Jewish group called the Chabad Lubavitch Hasidics, who follow the Qabala, and hold very extremist and insulting views of non-Jews. Fleischer was the co-president of Chabad's Capitol Jewish Forum. He received the Young Leadership Award from the American Friends of Lubavitch in October, 2001.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

James Schlesinger
One of many Pentagon Advisors, Schlesinger also sits on the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board under Perle and is another extremist pro-Israel advisor, who supports going to war against Iraq. Schlesinger is also a commissioner of the Defense Department's National Security Study Group, at the Pentagon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Frum
White House speechwriter behind the "Axis of Evil" label. He lumps together all the lies and accusations against Iraq for Bush to justify the war.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joshua Bolten
White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Bolten was previously a banker, former legislative aide, and prominent in the Jewish community.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

John Bolton
Under-Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. Bolton is also a Senior Advisor to President Bush. Prior to this position, Bolton was Senior Vice President of the above mentioned pro-Israel thinktank, AEI. He recently (October 2002) accused Syria of having a nuclear program, so that they can attack Syria after Iraq. He must have forgotten that Israel has 400 nuclear warheads, some of which are thermonuclear weapons (according to a recent U.S. Air Force report).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Wurmser
Special Assistant to John Bolton (above), the under-secretary for arms control and international security. Wurmser also worked at the AEI with Perle and Bolton. His wife, Meyrav Wurmser, along with Colonel Yigal Carmon, formerly of Israeli military intelligence, co-founded the Middle East Media Research Institute (Memri),a Washington-based Israeli outfit which distributes articles translated from Arabic newspapers portraying Arabs in a bad light.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eliot Cohen
Member of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board under Perle and is another extremist pro-Israel advisor. Like Adelman, he often expresses extremist and often ridiculus anti-Arab and anti-Muslim views. More recently, he wrote an opinion article in the Wall Street Journal openly admitting his rascist hatred of Islam claiming that Islam should be the enemy, not terrorism.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mel Sembler
President of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. A Prominent Jewish Republican and Former National Finance Chairman of the Republican National Committee. The Export-Import Bank facilitates trade relationships between U.S. businesses and foreign countries, specifically those with financial problems.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michael Chertoff
Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division, at the Justice Department.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steve Goldsmith
Senior Advisor to the President, and Bush's Jewish domestic policy advisor. He also serves as liaison in the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (White House OFBCI) within the Executive Office of the President. He was the former mayor of Indianapolis. He is also friends with Israeli Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert and often visits Israel to coach mayors on privatization initiatives.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adam Goldman
White House's Special Liaison to the Jewish Community.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Joseph Gildenhorn

Sheepdog's list does seem to include a lot of Jews, but do they hold dual citizenship as he claimed?

Since the John Bolton reference is totally false---not a Jew and not an Israeli, I wonder how many other entries are false.

Sheepdog--for someone who disses my sources, yours are really suspect. You even dissed Wikipedia as a source!!

Sloppy research. Bad dog. No bone.

by Tia Thursday, Jun. 08, 2006 at 7:58 AM

Sheepy- some of your "research" is lifted directly from the National Social Movement website and david Duke's website "no war for Israel"- and I see very few mentions of dual citizenship. Are you assuming all Jews with an occassional Luthern thrown in for good measure have dual citizenship? How are you determining dual citizenship?
