At a press conference earlier today, the Coalition of United Students announced they will dedicate their April 15 march to Anthony Soltero, who took his own life after a vice-principal threatened him with prison because he walked out of school to protest HR4437. (repost by Leslie)

For Immediate Release:

Coalicion de Estudiantes Unidos
Coalition of United Students
ANTHONY SOLTERO TO BE HONORED AT MASS STUDENT MARCH ON
APRIL 15TH
The Coalition
of United
Students will be holding a press conference at 5 PM on Wednesday April 12th
announcing that they have decided to dedicate the MASS STUDENT MARCH 2006 (Gran Marcha Estudiantil 2006) to the 14 year old boy, Anthony
Soltero, who
in response to threats from the school administration after student walk-outs,
committed suicide last week. The press conference will address the latest wave
of repression occurring both inside and outside of schools with reference
to
students being forced to urinate in buckets during school lockdowns. The students will be
responding to
accusations and commentary in the media about a lack of participation and
support from multi-ethnic groups in the new immigrant movement for legalization.
The students will also announce support that they have thus far received from
public officials for the MASS STUDENT MARCH 2006.
The MASS STUDENT
MARCH 2006
will be held at 10 AM, on Saturday April 15th, beginning on Olympic and
Broadway and ending at L.A. City Hall. The program includes a variety
of speakers and performers to be announced at a later date.
The Coalition of
United
Students and the MASS STUDENT MARCH 2006 is fully supported by the March 25th
Coalition and actively supports the GREAT AMERICAN BOYCOTT 2006 on May 1st.

and I'd ask Indymedia to leave them here for a few days.
This is what Anthony faced in life, and this is what killed him. This is what the protests are really about. This reminds me why I do what I do.
On April 15, *everyone* needs to come out with the students so they don't have to live with this. Come out and scream that Anthony must be the last child to die of racism--although we all know he isn't, that others have already died from lack of health care, lack of nutritious food, lack of so much.
Our youth need our support, not hatred and not our neglect. Fifty years from now, they will remember whether or not we were there.
I will be there.

Please cite your sources if you want to be taken seriously. Other wise your commentary is easily dismissed as some one working for the school district and trying to spread false information in an attempt to create confusion about the case.
(readers: please know the suicide note has not been made public and that only the police, the family and their lawyers have read the suicide note. I think we can rule out two of these as the source of this comment)

It does not violate any of the moderation policies. And it provides insight into our enemy’s attack plans. They have outed themselves with this comment. They have no real defense so they are mounting a smear challenge against Anthony and his family.
Please restore the comment for all to see.

We should not provide a billboard for enemy propaganda. All one has to do is view the hidden comments area if one wishes to see this filth... If one wishes to view stinky laundry, they should have to open the hamper. Out of respect for the grief and loss of this family. Forgive me for disagreeing.

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-teen15apr15,1,7388243.story?ctrack=1&cset=true Attorney for mother said it himself. __________________________________________ Los Angeles Times, April 15, 2006 Ontario police Wednesday night released the boy's suicide note to his family. Samuel Paz, the mother's attorney, said it corroborated the allegations against the vice principal. Paz and the boy's mother have declined to release the note. "Ninety-nine percent of it is about his family, and how he's so sad to be in this situation," Paz said of the suicide note. "He says something extremely negative about the vice principal, filled with expletives … the only negative thing about anyone in the note." __________________________________________ I take it that its not a smear campaign if its about district officials, but it is if its about a family's claim of political abuse against their child. Its all about smear. Its about facts. All that matters are 3 things: 1. Was Anthony Soltero present at ANY of the protest rallies and did he initiate or organize and attendance? (Protest Leader Martyr status) 2. Did his have his parents approval, consent, or support. (Truancy issue) 3. Did the administrator communicate false penalties for trauncy and disruption of public education and/or suspend or child, or have the child cited by police as were hundreds of others? (Claims of Abuse of Administrative Power, Coercion, Harrassment, Persecution) If the first fact is untrue, the second and third facts are moot. His death is a tragedy. Perhaps his mother wants it to be for a higher cause. But if its not true, then its not right. PS Its okay to delete my previous text. It was design to ask to force people to ask themselves some questions. Letters were sent home with my child Fri 4/14 saying that police will be on site to prevent further harrassment of students by Latin-published media. Reporters were forcing exiting students to re-exit the school and look visibly upset, walking slowly with heads down, or running distraughtly. In another situation, a student was asked to get back out of his parents car and re-enter it while grieving about Anthony and the school's treatment of Hispanic students, in Spanish. The letter said that students are welcomed to speak with any reporters, but it should be in their parent's presence, and they should not feel obligated to re-enact scripted dramatizations. The letter also explained there were also individuals w/out badges or credentials claiming to be internet reporters cornering students and asking for personal information i.e. phone #s, addresses, full names & birthdates.

I don't think being the parent of a kid at the De Anza school makes you an insider.
Also cite your source. Please post a copy of this note from the school you have.
Also to rebut your three points:
Points one and two are not relevant to the case. Only your third point is the relevant to the issue. The issue here is, like you have said: “Abuse of Administrative Power, Coercion, Harassment and Persecution”
If you are a parent with a child attending this school as you say you are then this should be of concern to you.

"Points one and two are not relevant to the case. Only your third point is the relevant to the issue. "
I thought it was the main point. Because if it wasn't, the headlines wouldn't be saying words like, "Student Protest Leader Commits Suicide for the Cause." A teen suicide for getting caught in a lie about truancy isn't going to make national news and stir up all these immigration groups. The media hype is pushed by thse groups. If he never attended a rally - he's just an regular teen, and nobody would even care about his conversation with the principal.
