Santa Ana police deploy armored cars and horses to squelch protest

SANTA ANA POLICE DEPLOY ARMORED CARS AND HORSES TO
SQUELCH PROTEST ALONG BRISTOL STREET

People watch in horror as riot squad attacks crowd of
peaceful and festive observers

By DUANE J. ROBERTS
duaneroberts92804@yahoo.com

SANTA ANA, CA -- Several of Santa Ana's poorest
working class Mexican neighborhoods suddenly found
themselves under a state of siege last night when an
estimated two hundred Santa Ana police officers,
Orange County Sheriff's deputies, and California
Highway patrolmen descended into the area and
squelched a peaceful protest near the intersection of
Bristol and McFadden Streets.

More than 700 people had assembled about a quarter
mile away to express their opposition to legislation
passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in
December that would criminalize undocumented workers.
The demonstration was peaceful and festive as people
carried flags, signs, and wore clothing symbolizing
their Mexican heritage. The street was flooded with
cars honking their horns.

Things took a turn for the worse when Santa Ana
policemen dressed in full riot gear suddenly came up
from behind the crowd I was standing in and began
yelling for everybody to "get the hell out of here."
Without warning, cops started jumping out from
their patrol cars and began shoving and pushing
people; several Mexican males trying to move away from
them stumbled and fell as they lost their balance.

After being herded out of the area like a bunch of
cattle, this reporter retreated to the safety of his
vehicle. In the dark, a black armored car carrying
Santa Ana policemen slowly moved east on McFadden.
Several California Highway Patrol units also whizzed
by, their lights quietly flashing; they positioned
themselves further up the street to prevent people
from entering the neighborhood.

When things cooled down, I exited my vehicle and found
myself watching about eight policemen on horseback
ride their ponies directly through one working class
neighborhood in an attempt to get to Bristol street.
Moving to a nearby shopping center, I observed a
formation about sixty Orange County Sheriff's deputies
and California Highway patrolmen march South on
Bristol street toward the intersection.

It's unclear at this time if anybody was arrested or
seriously injured, but after the army of cops
retreated, the only visible property damage one could
see was graffiti that somebody sprayed on local
businesses. On the wall next to a convenience store I
bought a bag of chips and a soda from, somebody wrote
the words: "Mexico, don't hate."

Bush fascism

by Fredric L. Rice Wednesday, Mar. 29, 2006 at 11:39 AM
frice@skeptictank.org

This is typical Bush regime fascism: this terrorist regime's number 1 enemy is the people of this country so it's no wonder they've been utilizing military tactics and hardware against the citizens.

Count on this Christian terrorist fascism to get much worse as the butchers find themselves getting voted out of office.

Hey Pachuco, what do you mean about social cycles and how it's going according to plan?

I'm sincerely curious.

Please break it down, brother.

Bush is not a Christian

by Don Silva Wednesday, Mar. 29, 2006 at 11:49 PM

Get it right Fred. If he was a Christian, he would certainly not be doing the things that he is doing, would he ?

He is just a phony NWO cronie and wants the police state, along with wide open borders to turn all of North America into one big 'trade region'. A neo-feudalistic empire of sorts.

What really went down

by Jose Saturday, Apr. 01, 2006 at 4:33 PM

Students from local Valley H.S. Have been terrorized by the Santa Ana Police. They have physically assaulted students. At this protest people who peacefully resisted the orders to dispurse were physically hurt. One instance a 17 year old student from Valley H.S. was punched in the face and pepper sprayed by an officer. A female H.S. students were also hurt. One was hit with a baton in the shoulder. Another was thrown to the ground. Their injuries were visible. The SAPD uses unnecessary force. This is not about securing our borders, it's about racism.

.....it's about some teenage 'tontos' who were dumb enoghto disobey a lawful police order to disperse and return to class. and thought they could do so with impunity....gee, I wonder if that kind of thinking has anything to do with the 60% dropout rate among Hispanic high school kids

Cops hae become extremely arrogant

by Roger Saturday, Apr. 01, 2006 at 8:23 PM

Since all of these marches have taken place, cops have been quite ruthless at timeswhen attempting to disable the protestants marching efforts. I am a student at Century High School and some unnecesary contact towards the students has taken place. Who needs pepper spray and insults shouted at them in order to make them follow the rules? It didn't work in Russia, or with slavery, so why would it work now?

I am not consenting with tthe students at any level because any marches desginated to protest the HR 4437 bill should be held outside school grounds, in a peacceful manner, with a purpose. There were some kids who simply wanted to be absentfrom class. This ignorance will also take a toll with how Hispanics are viewed to the public and with congress.

I am simply saying cops and authorities should be able to figure out a better way to get everyone to comply with their orders. Shoving and beating them sure hasn't worked at all. And then people wonder why police officers are depicted as ruthless pitbulls with no leash.

Not really, Lord Locksley

I was with a small crowd of people, most of them
adults with young children, who were do nothing
but standing on a public sidewalk watching the
honking cars go by on Bristol Street when we were
suddenly attacked by several Santa Ana police officers
dressed in full riot gear.

None of these cops gave us an "official order" to
disperse. They just drove up in their patrol cars
from behind us, jumped out, and told us to "get the
hell out of here." When people didn't react immediately,
they began violently pushing and shoving them with
their night sticks.

They herded us out of the area like cattle. One kept
shouting "move faster" to those of us who weren't running
fast enough. One of the cops behind me pressed his
night stick on my back, but didn't shove me. I'm
glad he didn't, because if he had done so, I would have
fallen on a child.

Although I was not injured, I probably will be
filing an official complaint over the incident with
Santa Ana Police next week. What they did was not
only illegal, but unprofessional. I probably
will go to the next meeting of the Santa Ana City
Council to speak about it as well.

Sincerely,

Duane J. Roberts

Point taken,Duane

by Lord Locksley Saturday, Apr. 01, 2006 at 11:28 PM

.....but given that 60% dropout rate I mentioned, the kids in question should have been in school...and demonsration or not., the fact they lack the discipline to stay in class says plenty about their attitudes about education....they have the rest of their lives to be political activists....but once they drop out of high school, they have 'screwed the pooch'....somebody needs to reorder their priorities, pronto

Dropouts

by johnk Sunday, Apr. 02, 2006 at 12:54 AM

The alleged 60% dropout rate was happening long before these demos. If you keep doing the same old stuff, you're going to keep getting the same old results. Staying in school, for them, is doom. By walking out, maybe some of these kids who think life's all about ditching school will learn something.

I heard an interesting story though. A teacher I know managed to keep his classroom from leaving, without even locking it down. This was on the eastside, where all the schools were walking. They stayed in because they're in the middle of studying Chicano history, and the walkouts of the 1960s.

El Voto

by Antonio M Sunday, Apr. 02, 2006 at 7:57 AM
fyk1327@sbcglobal.net

This legislation in not about social services the undocumented immigrants are using but about the voting power the Latinos, Hispanics or what ever other label you want to give us will have in about 20 years. This is when the children of these immigrants will be educated and have the right to vote because they were born here and hopefully most 0f the immigrants would have become citizens and be able to vote. Making it a felony or making the immigrant a felon takes the right to vote which our DEMOCRATIC country is founded upon. Who will control the political and economic means in the future, it is apparent the controlling good old boys do not want this to happen. We are in Iraq supposedly to instill Democracy and in our own country we are littlle by little losing it . Wake up and see what this is all about EDUCATE YOURSELVES AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE BECOME OUR NEXT LEADERS AND VOTERS THAT WAY WE HAVE A VOICE. For the Christian Right or Left --Jesus came for all who are oppressed

Ok, Let's say "Aztlan" wins.

Please describe for the Classes, in your own words, how the conditions in Aztlan will be any better than the conditions that currently exist in Mexico?
