This was part of a weeklong series of actions to save the South Central Farm. Tomorrow night at 7pm farmers plan to protest at the mayor’s mansion located at 605 S Irving Blvd near the corner of Wilshire and Crenshaw. The mayor has made numerous promises to work out a deal to save the farm but so far nothing has materialized. The stay of eviction expires Monday the 13th and unless a solution is found the farmers will again being facing eviction by force. They have vowed to resist removal from the land they have farmed for the past 13 years.

We on the East Coast are keeping you in our thoughts, and our parayers as we begin to plant for spring and summer, we will plant seeds of hope, not tears......Wal-Marts can be built and replaced any where. The love and care in your soil is known around the world, it is inspiring and we hope it will grow, and touch all of us. Peace

Did it rain?

by Justice Friday, Mar. 10, 2006 at 1:25 PM

30 gardeners out the 350 familes are reported to tend the south central garden is a pretty pathetic turnout. Let us not forget the protest of the week members who showed up, billy, moonbeam, and april shower, peace and love to you gang.

Response to Justice

by Ch Friday, Mar. 10, 2006 at 2:34 PM

Due to their legal situation, the farmers have made the decision not to participate in the protests against the developer. That's why at all of the actions against Horowitz the only people present have been community members, other groups, and members of the support committee. So not a bad turnout for something that was suggested three days prior to the action.

Deleted

by Gardner Saturday, Mar. 11, 2006 at 8:41 AM

I think my post got deleted. I asked why they want to have a garden on land worth over one million dollars per acre. Why don't they use the money raised so far and buy rural cheaper land for their garden?

yeah that's what happens when

by Hex Saturday, Mar. 11, 2006 at 9:15 AM

people

a.) start hitting the troll buttons
b.) call for deletion on here, and especially
c.) email the staff demanding deletion

acting like children in other words - expecting other's to be parents to "protect" their thin skin because they can't take it upon themselves to just skip it and ignore it

having the latest comments view tends to turn the newswire into a stage or soapbox and the threads with the most chatter stand the highest, then people start competing for position knocking eachother off by using moderation/moderators as a weapon

it's starting again (we used to have it before but it got out of hand so it was disabled for awhile)

I noticed some IMC's are using registration/accounts and have an actual voting system in place (like slashdot)

I believe johnk is working on such a system here (I may not be correct on this however)

"what is wrong with asking the question"

by Hex Sunday, Mar. 12, 2006 at 4:14 PM

I don't know - why don't you ask them ?

but seriously - that sounds more like a statement than a question

Here is the question

by me Tuesday, Mar. 14, 2006 at 7:51 AM

Why do you want to spend over one million dollars per acre for a garden?

Isn't that money better spend elsewhere?

Why don't you buy your own land for your garden?

Why do you need to have a garden in the middle of the city?

Voting

by johnk Tuesday, Mar. 14, 2006 at 7:10 PM

I'm not working on registration and voting at this time, but, it's something on the table.

I'm busy lately, so I don't read so deep into the reported posts and sometimes, things get hidden that might not otherwise. Generally if someone uses disparaging language, like calling people theives, criminals, and beggars, it's more likey to get hidden, just because of the language. Using homosexuality or gender to insult is also another way to get hidden. I figure that the asshats are working hard at being rude, and a lot of other incidences of this hate language haven't been hidden, so, it's not a big deal to hide that one instance.

If you want to maximize your exposure, don't be rude.

The one exception in my mind right now is that riot story. It's a special case. I'm leaving a lot of stuff up that would be hidden otherwise.

hidden=censorship

by justice Tuesday, Mar. 14, 2006 at 10:42 PM

Why do you have a problem with telling it like it is? The process of hiding information such as posts from public viewing is nothing more than censorship. Calling some one a begger, criminal, etc happens to be true in many cases. For example bill clinton was a no good, skirt chasing, lying criminal. That sentence while insulting is very true :).
