Hello everybody:

I'm publicly posting the following email I received in my inbox today to let everybody who reads this listserv know that I apparently am being stalked by one or more unknown individuals, possibly disgruntled law enforcement agents. It looks like the articles I've been writing about Theresa Dang's case that I've been posting all over the internet have struck a very raw nerve with deep inside the Garden Grove Police Department, Orange County District Attorney's Office, and the folks who run Garden Grove City Hall. Someone in power apparently is very disturbed about what I have done.

Some of the information that has been written in the email indicates to me the author or somebody else close to "him" has been in close proximity to my physical residence. But other claims it contains are patently false. For example, the allegations of me "getting out of small car in alley dated last saturday at 3:15 with two other hispanic men. Other pictures of you going into and out of apartment" are untrue. And I'm personally not acquainted with a "largish male with oversize t shirt" at my apartment complex, although there are dozens of men who live on my block who could match the description.

I am reporting this email to the Anaheim Police Department -- although I'm not saying that they are going to do much of anything about it. Whoever wrote it is very knowledgeable about law since they themselves don't claim to be the ones engaged in the act of stalking itself; they are just hinting that this is going on. Of course, this is the kind of nonsense you get when you have the courage to stand up and be openly critical of the power structure here in Orange County, California. I'm sorry, but I refuse to be intimidated. But if these jerks do something to me, I ask that hundreds of people like yourself across Southern California rise up in my absence and intensify the struggle for civil liberties, human rights, and social justice.

I want to first off give duane my complete support. But, I don't think saying that we know it is city hall or the police is honest. And in reporting that is so important. La indy media can only be powerful if we are completly honest and straight forward and speak with facts.

I agree with you. We don't know exactly who sent the email. This is something I've pointed out in correspondence I've sent to John Welter, Chief of the Anaheim Police Department, earlier this evening. But I'm sure it's related. I've been through similar kind of harrassment before when I've criticized people in power. I myself was the subject of a phony criminal investigation before just like Theresa Dang was at one time -- although charges were never filed against me because the police department investigating the case realized the allegations made againt me were politically motivated and weren't true. I've been in her shoes, so I know how it feels. I've also been spied on. None of this is news to me.

It's about 11:02 pm, and I'm safe right now. The real issue about the email is that some jerks who are angry want to scare me. Well, all they've done is spurred me to ask the Anaheim Police Department and company security at Yahoo and MSN to investigate where the email in question originated from. People are suggesting I contact the FBI as well, although I really don't want to do that. But if push comes to shove, I will. I don't know what these jerks have done to ensure that they can't be traced, but I sure hope they have a good lawyer; the odds are good they'll get caught. It's next to impossible to remain anonymous on the internet anymore.

The first IP in the headers, 172.20.100.202, is part of a range reserved for private networks. Either that's the address of the sending computer on an intranet, or it's deliberately spoofed.

The second IP in the chain, 72.14.141.100, is in a block assigned to an ISP in Fallbrook CA, TFB net. Fallbrook is in San Diego County.

Of course, that address could be a poorly-secured mail server, or a bot-infested zombie that happens to be connected to TFB. Spammers routinely use both tricks to conceal the true origins of their mail.

You don't seem to realize there is very a big difference between the kinds of tactics I use in my activism and that of the unknown persons who decided to send me the anonymous email.

I frankly don' t care if you or your buddies decide to investigate or photograph me in public. In fact, I'm quite willing to give you all the info you need to find out everything about me. I don't have anything to hide.

But if you're going to lurk around my home in the wee hours of the morning and threaten to post both my social security and driver's license number online, you may be facing some serious prison time.

Filing false police reports aren't my cup of tea. Besides, I already get plenty of attention from cowards like yourself who hide behind fake nicks and are too afraid to face me out in the open.

I don't know anything about Duane or his situation or exactly what he does at events. But I do know of one person who seems to have been paranoid, asking people in person about who Duane is, what's he doing, etc etc etc. Who is that person???

It's never a good idea to talk to the secret police.

The best avenue is to inquire the legal sources such as the NLG or the ACLU. Try it.
