South Central Farmers Phone Tree

by Jason Neville Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005 at 3:59 PM
nevitate@gmail.com

The South Central Farmers are asking members of the progressive community to establish phone trees to mobilize activists across the city to defend their beloved and family-sustaining 14-acre farm at 41st and Long Beach Ave. For the last 13 years, these working class Latino families have tilled what was once an abandoned, garbage- and rat-infested lot into a inspirational garden that feeds and sustains over 360 families!

The developer could show up with bulldozers at any time to raze the urban gardens to replace them with a CRA-subsidized warehouse.

If your name is not already below, please email me with your phone number so we can call you when the bulldozers show up and turn out as many people as possible to peacefully resist the destruction.

There are two other things you can do to ensure that the farm is preserved:

1) Tell the Mayor and the city council you support the farm and want them to broker an agreement to preserve the gardens and support more throughout the city:http://www.southcentralfarmers.com/politicianform.php

Our voices are powerful-- it is important for politicians to hear that residents from across the city support the farm! (Thanks to the people that came to this month's LA Greens meeting, I was able to hand-deliver 12 letters to the Mayor yesterday!)

2) Join the families and Zach de la Rocha (Rage Against the Machine) and Ozomatli for an event at the farm to support the South Central Farmers!

**Tuesday November 22, 8:30 PM**

...Again, please email me your names and phone numbers to join the phone tree.

Thanks and peace,

Jason Neville

suggestion: use txtmob!

by schock Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005 at 9:07 PM

Hey, this is a friendly suggestion: try setting up a txtmob group. What's txtmob? People sign up to receive txt messages on their cell phone as an action alert. It's more rapid response than email b/c you never know when people will be logged on but they'll get the txt quickly, also can forward it to their friends at the moment. Also, it's free, it was developed by activists for the RNC, it only takes a second to set up and they won't sell your phone number to anyone, ever. You can set up a SouthCentralFarmers txtmob group here: http://www.txtmob.com/

Txtmob action alerts to save SCFarm!

by schock Friday, Mar. 03, 2006 at 6:32 PM

I just created a group on txtmob.com so that folks can sign up to receive text action alerts about the South Central Farm.

TXTmob lets you quickly and easily share txt messages with friends, comrades, and total strangers. The format is similar to an email b-board system. You can sign up to send and receive messages from various groups, which are organized around a range of different topics.

TXTmob was first developed by the Institute for Applied Autonomy for protestors at the Democratic National Convention in Boston and the Republican National Convention in New York.

To sign up go to http://www.txtmob.com. Create an account (it only takes a few seconds and no personal information will be sold or shared), then sign up to the group: savethegarden
