The march went without incident until it was blocked by police on Temple at Broadway due to a bomb scare at Parker Center. The suspected bomb turned out to be an empty box and was reportedly blasted with a police water cannon. The march was then allowed to continue. Shortly after proceeding there was a brief scuffle with police that resulted in the arrest of two women. The march continued on to a rally in front of Parker Center. Uploaded here is video showing the march and part of the incident where the arrests occurred.
I dont want people to start to get whipped up in a dramatization of what happened. the cop swung his bike out in front of a woman she stoped an was bumped in to him by the startled runners behind her. they arrested her because they allways try to arrest someone at a rally so that people will be detured from attending. the only scuffeling that went on was when the police systematicly snatched there token arestees. the demonstrators wherent running because they where up to no good they where excited that the bomb scare was called off and they could get down to the end of the march. I hope folks dont sensationalize these arrests. or make those girls sound deviant. the cops that atacked them might as well put his foot out to trip them. and as for the claim that they where resisting arrest. if any one grabs you and twists your arm to intentionally hurt you your natural responce is to recoil in pain. I suspect this was all that happened. remember they allways try to shake down people who seem to play some leadership role. its no coincidence that these girsl where in the front, it sent a strong reminder to all those behind them in the rally to be afraid. but ive typed to much about this topic all in all the rally was a success the black block used in a distinctly defensive way which i appreciated. it was also nice to see so many children masked up and protected. Its a smart idea to protect your idenity and lungs. also the splitter solidarity march to the jail house I was supprised however that more people didn't break off. Those girls are our comrads and brutalized political prisoners. still it was nice to wait outside for them and play a guitar there was real love and solidarity in the air down on 6th street that night. all in all I loved the rally and look forward to going next year.
Thanks! for the footage. It's so great to able to see a piece of what is really going on in a town far far far away. Keep up the great work...the people united can never be defeated!
