"Gilchrist's allegation that I was involved in a organizing a counterdemonstration where protesters tried to murder an 80 year old woman who came to hear him speak about the 'Minuteman Project' is bald-faced lie. "MINUTEMAN PROJECT" FOUNDER FACES POSSIBLE SLANDER
SUIT OVER "ATTEMPTED MURDER" CLAIM

Community activist demands apology from Jim Gilchrist
over "slanderous comments" made at candidate forum

Wednesday, September 28, 2005

ANAHEIM, CA -- Duane Roberts, a community activist who helped organize a counterdemonstration to protest "Minuteman Project" founder Jim Gilchrist's appearance at the Garden Grove Woman's Civic Club on Wednesday, May 25, 2005, is demanding that the wannabe Congressman from Aliso Viejo apologize to him for "slanderous comments" made at a "48th Congressional District Candidate Forum" held at Irvine City Hall early last week.

According to an audio recording of the September 20th forum that was obtained Monday from Kevin Stockdale, Broadcast Media Coordinator for KUCI 88.9 FM, one of two media outlets that broadcast it live over the public airwaves, Gilchrist, an American Independent Party candidate, made the following remarks during his one minute closing statement:

Now regarding the Greenpeace [sic]
party, uh, your claim to non-violence,
I personally was the victim of the
suppression of my First Amendment
Rights, something that I hold
dearly to me and I would literally
die to defend, and your party, Duane
Roberts, of the Green Party in
Anaheim, orchestrated a mayhem --
a riot -- where five of your
Greenpeace [sic] members were arrested
for assault with a deadly weapon,
felony, attempted murder against an
80 year old woman who came to assemble
to hear me speak about the
Minuteman Project.

"If Gilchrist does not apologize for the slanderous comments he's made against me at this candidate forum, I will seriously explore the option of taking legal action against him for slander and defamation of character," Roberts says. "I have no problem with bringing this matter to court because the facts are on my side."

Roberts states: "Gilchrist's allegation that I was involved in a organizing a counterdemonstration where protesters tried to murder an 80 year old woman who came to hear him speak about the 'Minuteman Project' is bald-faced lie. No such incident ever occured on May 25th. No one -- not even the Garden Grove Police -- will back up such garbage."

In response to Gilchrist's allegation that Roberts tried to "orchestrate a mayhem -- a riot" to "suppress" his "First Amendment Rights," he adds:

"It's a well established fact that I sent an email to Garden Grove Police Chief Joe Polisar a couple of days before Gilchrist's appearance to express my interest in working with his department to mitigate the
possibility of violence occuring at the demonstration."

"If it were my true intention of engaging in criminal behavior toward Gilchrist and his supporters, why would I make an effort to contact the Garden Grove Police Chief? So I can tell him about what kind of crimes I was planning to commit that evening?"

Roberts further says that Gilchrist's "slanderous comments" at last week's forum were in direct violation of an ethics statement he signed when he filed papers to become a candidate in the upcoming special election.

"On August 15th, Gilchrist signed a statement at the Orange County Registrar of Voters saying he would abide by a 'Code of Fair Campaign Practices,' pledging -- among other things -- not to 'use or permit the use of character defamation, whispering campaigns, libel, slander, or scurrilous attacks on any candidate or his or her personal family life.'"

"Since his remarks were directed in part toward Bea Tiritilli, the Green Party candidate in the race, I think Gilchrist owes her an apology. He also owes the voters of the 48th Congressional District an explanation as to why he made a decision to break his promise to wage a fair campaign. They too have been victimized by his outrageous behavior."

Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the fascist "Minuteman Project", will be speaking at the Garden Grove Women's Club on Wednesday, May 25th at 7:30 pm.

Subject: Minuteman founder Jim Gilchrist speaks in Garden Grove on
Wednesday, May 25th

=== PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY ===

I'm sending this message out to make people aware of
the fact that Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the
fascist "Minuteman Project", will be speaking at the
Garden Grove Women's Club on Wednesday, May 25th at
7:30 pm.

Gilchrist has been invited to speak there by the
California Coalition for Immigration Reform
(C.C.I.R.), one of the groups responsible for putting
the racist Proposition 187 on the California ballot in
1994.

I live a couple of miles away from the Garden Grove
Women's Club, and I know as a fact there is a fairly
long public sidewalk that surrounds the building which
houses it. It's also right next to a major street.

Although I'm not currently involved in organizing a
counterdemonstration, I think one definitely needs to
take place! We need to show our strong opposition to
racism, fascism, and xenophobia!

Sincerely,

Duane J. Roberts

totally successful MINUTEMAN PROJECT which literally
halted the "illegal alien invasion" of criminals and
smugglers in the Naco, AZ area! Please mark your
calendar and plan to meet, greet and hear this
American patriot's future plans to expand the
MinuteMan effort in other areas.

Yes, I did post the message that you attributed to me. So what? Does it change the fact that Jim Gilchrist is fabricating a story about what happened on the night of Wednesday, May 25, 2005? What evidence does Gilchrist have proving that protesters at the counterdemonstration tried to murder an 80 year woman? And if I was trying to orchestrate a "riot" that night, why did I contact the Garden Grove Police Chief a couple of days before his appearance?

Duane J. Roberts

Laffable

by Don Silva Friday, Sep. 30, 2005 at 4:02 PM

I guess putting a brick thru her window, 6 inches from her face is not enough? Even if it was not attempted murder, it sure could have killed her, and could cerntainly be interped that way.

Give it up Daune! This would never hold water, and I think you know that.

You know, for a guy that looks into peoples arest records and such, and then tries to intimidate women at protests with what he finds, I find it laffable that you would be interested in something like this!

By the way, we have plenty of arrest records with all kinds of goon info in them, and we do not even post it, nevermind try and intimidate with it.

Please post online a copy of a Garden Grove police report where it says persons protesting Jim Gilchrist's appearance at the Garden Grove Woman's Civic Club made an attempt to murder an 80 year old woman.

Dare I hold my breath?

Wow. Now you're making up stories that I've "intimidated women" at protests! Looks like all the information I've posted online about "Save Our State's loose ties and affiliations with neo-Nazis, skinheads, and white supremacists, has begun to struck a raw nerve, hasn't it?

How many times have I been arrested, Don?

throwing a brick through a moving vehicle's window can be classified as attempted murder, assualt with a deadly weapon, etc. etc. if they get a police report to verify it, i think your chances of winning this "lawsuit" will get smaller and smaller.

MIssing the points

by Don Silva Saturday, Oct. 01, 2005 at 3:43 AM

As I said, there may be no attempted murder charge here, but you certainly do not have enuff for slander.

The facts are the facts, you are correct in that. The fact is that a brick went thru this ladies back passenger window, about 6 inches from her head! (some folks you hang with!) That COULD be interped as attempted murder, although I personally do not see it that way. I am saying that you are being petty becuzz of all the things we have let go, like the frequent syber terrorism coming from some of those you side with.

It is funny you are obsessed with the WN "connection" when you hang with the likes of those that throw bricks thru old ladies car windows ! Can you see why we think the whole thing is sucha joke ???

Also, I am not speaking of your information. You told Naui, or someone about a restraining order that someone had on our side. Someone, maybe Naui, started yelling this at the wrong person on our side. We have plenty of information, but we do not do with it what you do...can you deny this is happening ? You are using intimidation tactics, plain and simple. Are you saying that you are not?

Challenge to Minutemen; protest industrial agriculture

by largest water giveaway Saturday, Oct. 01, 2005 at 6:05 PM

The other subsidies besides taxpayers' cash moolah are in the form of water diverted from the Rio Colorado and other rios throughout the west. At the expense of migratory anadromous fish, delta and other riparian ecosystems (including desert springs and aquifers), the rio agua ends up in industrial agriculture fields like the hot and dry Imperial Valley to grow temperate (water dependant) crops like iceberg lettuce. The monocultura fields also require heavy applications of pesticdes and fertilizers, all petrochemical based. That is another reason the US military is still occupying oil rich Iraq, we are hooked on petroleum to feed our industrial agriculture..

Here's a list of the top 15 farms in the Westlands Water District;

http://www.ewg.org/reports/westlands/part2.php

Then there's the issue of labor. Undocumented immigrants usually end up in the largest industrial agriculture fields breathing toxins of pesticides and suffering heat stroke. For this they don't even get paid above minimum wage (though CEOs get millions of taxpayer dollars?), if they become ill from the bioaccumulation of pesticide toxins they are secretly deported back to Mexico..

The UFW needs to be less about compromise with industrial agriculture and more about zero tolerance of pesticide exposure. Since the CA gubenator Arnold the Actor has chosen to support measure 75 to further weaken the unions, this may not happen. Ceaser Chavez would be rolling in his grave if he knew how the UFW has sold out to industrial agriculture in the name of compromise. Consider this a challenge to the UFW to prove me wrong..

All the Cucapah of the Rio Colorado delta ask for is 1 percent more fresh river water to recover from the decades of drought and increased salinity from lack of fresh water. Even this is too much for the Imperial Valley iceberg lettuce growers who insist on claiming the lion's share of the water so that Taco Bell can put some lettuce leaves on their tacos. Just ask the owner of a seafood restaurant in El Golfo de Santa Clara about the steady decline in sealife over the decades from lack of fresh water. This criminal behavior on the part of these corporations will only continue so long as people allow it..

Until now, the Minutemen are considered by many (including myself) to be racist for scapegoating immigrants and ducking the source problem of "illegal" immigration, economic inequality. If the Minutemen want to show the world what they are really about (another challenge to prove me wrong), organizing a protest of industrial agriculture and their abusive treatment of undocumented immigrant labor would be a great idea to throw off the label of being racist. Maybe some counter-protesters could also show up and the corporate media would be forced to cover this controversial issue that effects everyone..

No agua, no vida: Slow Death of the Colorado Delta
http://www.blueearth.org/projects/colorado_river/

"Over the course of millions of years, water and silt from the Colorado River Basin flowing downstream to the Gulf of California created one of the greatest desert deltas the world has ever seen. During the past century, efforts to harness Colorado River water, primarily for agriculture but also municipal uses and hydroelectricity production, have radically reshaped, or more accurately, decimated the delta. Upriver water management policies favoring consumptive use of the resource have greatly reduced the amount of water and silt reaching the delta, causing drastic, damaging changes to the physical characteristics of the landscape. As a result, the plants and animals that adapted over large periods of time to this vibrant, yet temperamental and unforgiving environment have suffered mightily. The Cucupá Indians who survived for some 2,000 years off the rich and diverse biota of the region consequently find themselves no longer able to do so.

PHOTO: Beginning in 1963, the delta received none of the Colorado's annual flood flows for 17 years while Lake Powell filled behind Glen Canyon Dam. CREDIT: USGS

The seeds for change were sown in 1901 when prospectors attempted to irrigate the desert lands of the Imperial Valley in southern California by diverting water through a privately built canal. Shortly thereafter, the swollen river revealed its true force, smashing through the canal and forging its own path before accidentally creating the Salton Sea. Undeterred, the powerful Imperial Irrigation District gained the support of the Bureau of Reclamation in 1921, calling for a more capable water delivery system to aid the flourishing agriculture businesses of the area. The Boulder Canyon Project Act included construction of what was then the world's biggest dam, known today as Hoover Dam, and behind it, Lake Mead, America's largest man-made storage reservoir."

"A rocket-fuel chemical that has polluted drinking water supplies across the Southwest may also be contaminating a large portion of the nation's winter lettuce crop.

Tests commissioned by The Press-Enterprise found the chemical perchlorate in all 18 samples of winter lettuce and one sample of mustard greens. Roughly 90 percent of the nation's winter lettuce is grown in the Imperial and Coachella valleys and irrigated with Colorado River water. The river is contaminated from a Cold War-era manufacturing plant near Las Vegas that stopped making perchlorate in 1998."

AG protest

by AyatollahGondola Saturday, Oct. 01, 2005 at 7:35 PM

I can't argue about the necessity of an ag protest, or several, as it is long overdue. But the reasons illegal immigration are not all due to economic inequality. If everyone was made equal as far as economics go, there would still be enormous competition for jobs and opportunities. That's the way of the world. People and other creatures compete for resources.
But competing fairly, by observing and enforcing equally applied laws and rules,...that I'd stand hard and fast for
