DAY LABORERS HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE TO HIGHLIGHT ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTIONS, TO DENOUNCE IMMIGRANT BASHING, AND TO CALL FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM
For: Friday, September 30, 2005 Contact: Carlos Preza, English, (213) 248-2050 Antonio Bernabe, Spanish, (818) 841-0307
(Burbank, CA) Day Laborers, their allies, and community leaders from throughout Los Angeles will hold a press conference and rally outside of the KFI radio studio to urge Californians to value the contributions of day laborers, to respect their rights, and to urge fair immigration reform.
The last several months have witnessed a sharp rise in media attention to day workers and the day labor practice. Unfortunately, few have focused on the contributions of day workers and on the economic forces underlying the day labor practice. Instead, a vocal minority has used this recent attention to initiate a new wave of immigrant bashing using day laborers as targets.
“We are here, and we’re not going anywhere,” said Marcos Rodriguez, a Los Angeles-based day laborer. “We will continue to keep houses painted, yards trimmed, and babies fed. We will build communities and we will even rebuild those houses destroyed by the recent hurricanes. We demand an immigration reform policy that treats us like any other workers, respecting our workplace and constitutional rights like everyone else.”
The rally will also emphasize that the day laborer story is not merely about immigration. It is about people, about husbands and wives, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters. Above all though, it is an issue is about economic justice and human rights. Those who are frustrated with our broken immigration policy will be encouraged to engage in any number of productive dialogues occurring across the city and around the country where voices are joining to support immigration reform that includes a meaningful path to citizenship.
“We all agree immigration reform is needed,” said Pablo Alvarado of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network. “We think this should be accomplished through dialogue, education, and mutual understanding.”
The National Day Laborer Organizing Network’s mission is to strengthen and expand the work of local day laborer organizing groups, in order to become more effective and strategic in building leadership, advancing low-wage worker and immigrant rights, and developing successful models for organizing immigrant contingent/temporary workers. NDLON fosters healthy, safer and more humane environments for day laborers to obtain employment and raise their families. In this sense, NDLON advances the human, labor, and civil rights of day workers throughout the United States.

You traitorous Mexican anarchists are getting just what you don't want. Adverse publicity to your cause(your re conquest of Aztlan) What horse shit you believe in! I hear your Baldwin 5 are coming up shortly to get what's coming to them for their illegal activities. Can't they think up something more manly than throwing water bottles at little old ladies? That doesn't look to most people as being very "Macho", now does it? If you try that crap down on the Border with the Minutemen, someone brown will hit the ground. Damn, that sounds like one of your chants. Better luck next time, GOONS. Enjoy the fines/jail time. J J

Outside the KFI building in Burbank on Friday, September 30th, there will be a “Day Laborers and their Allies” protest at 10:30am. They are claiming that KFI is “racist radio”. The organization claims to be bringing day laborers to the front of the building! They want to break the law right in front of our face. We need you to call the Immigration & Customs Enforcement agency, the LA County Sheriff, and the Burbank Police Department and let them know this can’t happen. We can’t have illegals here and something needs to be done!
Immigration & Customs Enforcement Agency 1-866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2-423)
LA County Sheriff 323-526-5541
Burbank Police Department 818-238-3000

this is going to be very entertaining. it's been proven that the majority of day laborers, especially in southern california, are illegal aliens. here was a study done confirming it: http://www.sscnet.ucla.edu/chavez/daylaborer.html still don't believe me? ask professor valenzuela yourself: abel@ucla.edu all i have to do is report suspicious behavior or activity to ICE, and you'll see scores of illegal immigrants either arrested or running away. hope to see all you reconquistas and anarchists there!

From their Web site:
Call-in Numbers and Station Address KFI AM-640 3400 W Olive Ave. Suite # 550 Burbank, CA 91505
I just stopped by the Web site to get the location information, but I couldn't help looking at their hosts list. Oy, what an assortment! Half wing-nuts and the rest just plain nuts, e.g., Coast to Coast- your #1 source for paranoid conspiracism and pseudoscientific babble.
I guess you can't expect much better from AM nowadays.

Dont let them scare you! Flip it on them! If they want to intimidate the jornaleros by threatining to calling immigration then fine but if I, a brown chicano citizen of mexican decent, am asked for my "green card/ID" I'm going to refuse. If I am FORCED to show my ID and I did nothing wrong then I will sue for racial profiling and a violation of my civil rights. Happy hunting, lets see if you can distinguish between me and the "illegals". Hasta la victoria...siempre!

If you're so proud to be a Mexican, why aren't you in Mexico?

One of tomorrow's protestors just called into KFI (6:30pm) and called the radio host a "Polak" (a racial-slur for those of polish descent). The host never called the guy anything offensive at all. Way to show your true mentality guys! Viva America!

Chicanos are not just Mexican, but also Americans.
We started the Cowboy culture, which practically defines all of Americana.
We also started barbecue so you could celebrate the 4th of July for a revolution that received 80% of its funding from Mexico. We also provided many troops to keep the British from your backdoor.
Dude or Dudette, we are just as American as you, so start accepting that. We don't have to go to Mexico. The US is our land too, and what of it!
