Zapatista "Red-Alert" Update 7/8/05

by L.A. Chiapas Action Committee Saturday, Jul. 09, 2005 at 8:27 PM

This past Wednesday concerned community members from Los Angeles, to Orange County, to Long Beach, met once again at the Eastside Café in El Sereno to discuss the developments in Chiapas and the 3rd part of the Declaration of the Lacandona Jungle that the Zapatistas released shortly after our first meeting.

This past Wednesday concerned community members from Los Angeles, to Orange County, to Long Beach, met once again at the Eastside Café in

El Sereno to discuss the developments in Chiapas and the 3rd part of the Declaration of the Lacandona Jungle that the Zapatistas released

shortly after our first meeting.

Again, the general consensus was that we continue focusing on our own work here in the U.S., with the possibility of taking part in the transnational dialogues that the EZLN has called for. The majority of the people at the meeting agreed that the coalition

should not turn into another organization, but more of a "network of autonomous networks" with the potential of carrying out united actions.

An "Action Committee" of about 20 people was formed and will meet this Tuesday in Highland Park at "Flor y Canto" at 7pm. The committee will discuss possible responses to the LA Times article, possible actions, etc. We hope to have a few proposals ready for the

next General Meeting the following day (Wednesday July 14th) at Toma Esperanza in Highland Park.

Action Committee meeting Tuesday July 13th @ Flor y Canto, 3706 N. Figueroa Ave Los Angeles, CA 90065 (in Highland Park)

General Coalition meeting Wednesday July 14th @ Toma Esperanza (formerly known as Galaria Mundo)…. 4022 N. Figueroa Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90065 (between Ave. 40 and Ave. 41)…the old "Galaria

Mundo" banner is still hanging out front.
