News From The Front Lines: Baldwin Park Updates

by 1planet1people Sunday, Jun. 26, 2005 at 10:04 AM

I am merely relaying news information as reported from independent news reporters covering the protests in Baldwin Park by Save Our State (an Anti-Illegal Immigration Organization) and the citizens of greater Los Angeles who have come together in opposition to Save Our State. This protest is about a series of insriptions on a monument that reflects the struggles of Latino and Anglo relations. Save Our State finds that communities with Latino Americans are "Cease Pools" and their culture and history are offensive and wants the inscriptions removed.

12:58
Police have barricaded side streets on Ramona. There are reports of 100's of counter demonstrators on Ramona and 60 counter protestors on Downing and Pacific. The independent reporter is not able to see the SOS people. There are reports of large numbers of riot police standing between the two organizations. People have been asked to sign the non-violent pledge. So far the counter demonstrators are chanting, "Peaceful Protest".

1:40 update

by 1planet1people Sunday, Jun. 26, 2005 at 10:45 AM

200 + Counter Demonstrators confirmed on Ramona, including the Aztec Dancers.

100+ Counter Demonstrators remain on Pacific and Downing.

The counter demonstrators are remaining peaceful, abiding by the laws, and voicing their descent to the Save Our State organization. The Save Our State has just about thirty people on their side who have been there for some time, while the numbers of counter demonstrators continue to increasingly grow.

SOSMM Personal Coverage Disagrees

by Pachuco Sunday, Jun. 26, 2005 at 11:19 AM

SOS Poster:

I just got off the phone with Les Blenkhorn, who is Terry Andersons' producer. He is on the ground in BP. It is real quiet now, but he described to me how at one time they had 3-400 protesters across the street, and several thousand in a different direction down another street (I am sure someone there can better describe the logistics).

Just over 100 on our side. Excellent media representation. Massive police presence.

A number of the violent, pro-illegals were arrested. They arrested three more while I was on the phone & I couldn't hear Les while the pro-Americans were cheering the police.

Given the turnout, this was a massive victory for Joe and S.O.S. The cost to muster that many police is going to kick the BP mayor in the teeth.

He is going to be muttering to himself, "it was better before they came" back!

Change of victory. And IndyMedia policy

by Fredric L. Rice Sunday, Jun. 26, 2005 at 2:41 PM
frice@skeptictank.org

> Given the turnout, this was a massive victory for Joe
> and S.O.S. The cost to muster that many police is going
> to kick the BP mayor in the teeth.

This is informative since the SOSMM is changing what they want to claim as a "victory" from one of "removing the Monumen" to one of "costing the City of Baldwin Park one million dollars." If this was a "victory," then General Custer won the Battle of Little Bighorn.

Also I appreciate IndyMedia's policy of keeping things down to a dull roar and I believe they've removed a couple of my postings where my rhetoric has gotten a bit out of hand. I appreciate them removing comments I should have reworded to be a little less annoyed with the clowns.

I have to smile, though. The idiots who post using my name, and the amusing kooks that claim I'm in favor of raping 9 year old girls... These are "Save Our State" a.k.a. "Minutemen" attempts to get their intellectual and moral superiors to lash out in anger and say something stupid that they'll try to use to justify their race hatred and bigotry. But of course it's enough just to smile at the amusing right wing kook rhetoric and press on opposing what they stand for.

What I'm waiting to see if any complaints by the SOSMM/Storm Front/Nationa Vanguard/American Nazi Party et al. about being barricaded behind a wall of police like this. I don't believe in "Free Speech Zones" where people are penned in to the point where they're only speaking among themselves. The citizens of Southern California couldn't get anywhere near these clowns, and the roads were closed so nobody count drive by and even give the hate mongers the finger. They were virtually invisible except among themselves, ad I don't think that's right.

Yeah but...

by Chop Chop Sunday, Jun. 26, 2005 at 3:37 PM

I disagree with free speech zones too but the SOS/MM have been claiming for the last month that we're nothing but a bunch of violent savages, right? So how can they turn around and complain that there were too many police protecting them?

Maybe that's how they'l spin this latest defeat

by Fredric L. Rice Sunday, Jun. 26, 2005 at 6:18 PM
frice@skeptictank.org

> So how can they turn around and complain that
> there were too many police protecting them?

Maybe that's how they'll try to spin their latest humiliating defeat. I look at these little hate festivals of theirs as attempts to recruit new followers and certainly their message postings in the Storm Front forums indicate that they consider these to be recruitment efforts.

So maybe they'll complain that the cops were "censoring" them, keeping prospective racist recruits from hearing their ancient message of hatred. Last time the clowns amusingly proclaimed that "50 patriots" had been "viciously attacked" by the peaceful counter protesters. Maybe this time -- since nobody actually _saw_ the racists -- they'll have no choice but to claim they were censored.

Thing is, I suspect they _were_.

This time...

by Chop Chop Sunday, Jun. 26, 2005 at 11:31 PM

This time SOS will claim "40 American Patriots" spoke only to themselves..

BTW, that Besal guy made himself look real dumb. Not only did he respond to a political argument with a personal attack but he tried to make fun of somebody for making a mistake on the computer and then proceeded to make 3 mistakes himself.

SGVTribune.COM this morning (25 June)

The San Gabriel Valey Tribune this morning has two articles covering the anti-hate protest. Since I posted about it at http://la.indymedia.org/news/2005/06/130581.php I'll just make a note here about it. It's worth checking out.
