A demonstration has been announced to take place in front of Self Help Graphics. The peaceful protest and picketline is to demand the immediate opening of Self Help Graphics and the removal of its Board of Directors, which had the cultural center closed and locked up. Take a stand with artists, activists, and community members to save LA's oldest and world renown Chicano arts center!

read artist mark vallen's story about the closing of self help... he gives lots of details. self help is a non-profit cultural center thats been open since the late 60s. this mess reminds me of pacifica radio being hijacked a few years ago by a board of directors that wanted to make it a corporate radio station. the people organized and took by the station... same will have to happen with self help. the story on self help by vallen is at....

Galleria Otra Vez / SHG has been and still is the only art center and gallery in East Los Angeles where La Raza me included have been inspired and taught how to express our creativity as artists . I grew up living along side one the artist who gave life to SHG Gronk. I'm an artist who learned so much from Arturo Urista ,a teacher who was the director of the gallery in 1992.
