TONIGHT 7 PM: Students Speak-out About Gov. at SMC Meeting

by SMC Students and Faculty Tuesday, Jun. 07, 2005 at 9:44 PM

Students and Faculty will be there to speak-out at the SMC Trustees to uninvite Gov. Schwarzenegger as next Tuesday, June 14 commencement speaker at Santa Monica College.

Public Meeting Tonight of the Santa Monica College Trustees at 7 PM.

Students and Faculty will be there to speak-out at the SMC Trustees to uninvite Gov. Schwarzenegger as next Tuesday, June 14 commencement speaker at Santa Monica College.

Meanwhile a large protest has been planned at SMC next week (see below) if the Trustee chose to ignore the voices of hundreds of students, faculty and community members objecting that the Gov. is not an appropriate speaker to inspire graduates given his proposed cuts to education and targeting of immigrants.

WHEN: Tonight, Monday, June 6 at 7 PM

WHERE: Santa Monica College
Business Buliding Room 117
1900 Pico Blvd. (at 19th St,)
Santa Monica

NEXT WEEK:

JOIN PROTEST SCHWARZENEGGER IN SANTA MONICA!
Unite and Fight Back! Stop Budget Cuts & Privatization!

WHEN: Tuesday, June 14, 5:00 pm
WHERE: Corner of Pico & 17th St, Santa Monica College

On June 14, Schwarzenegger is coming to Santa Monica College to speak to graduating students. Meanwhile, he wants to cut education funding, teacher's wages, pensions and jobs across California. The Governor's big business campaign for a $70 million special election this coming fall is not only an attack on workers and students in California, it is intended to pave the way for pension privatization and anti-union campaigns across the country. Schwarzenegger has also given his clear support to the reactionary "Minutemen" project that is targeting immigrants along the border--an outrageous attack on immigrant workers. We must unite to stop these racist attacks in their tracks.

Join SMC protest againt Schwarzenegger to tell him
that students, teachers, nurses, workers,
immigrants and retired people are NOT "special interests!"

(FYI: There is a planned counter-protest by Arnold supporters to this event. So it's important to show up and be heard)

Initiated by: Youth and Student ANSWER, Santa Monica College
Coalition in Solidarity with Cuba, Progressive Alliance-Santa Monica College and Global Resistance Network
