This is a call-out to activists, partiers, lowriders,
and other revolutionists who could help to organize a social, celebratory, carnival event for June 25 in Baldwin Park.
This is a call-out to activists, partiers, lowriders, and other revolutionists who could help to organize a social, celebratory, carnival event for June 25 in Baldwin Park. I am contacting the mayor and council people of Baldwin Park to find out some of the logistics, but I have no experience in putting together something like this and I don't live in BP, so I need help!!! MECHistas, Food not Bombs, musicians and bands, sound system people, artists, performers--let's get it together! I'd like to set up a meeting this weekend maybe, so contact me, pass the word along, send suggestions and contacts, etc.
My email is: RASKACHE-AT-YAHOO-DOT-COM
here's some background info:
Somebody on an IMC post about the first BP demo suggested we have a big carne asada cookout instead of another big confrontation with the SOS people. I think that was an excellent onda!!!
Based on SOS's own strategizing etc., what they want is a big media event, another confrontation, violence, arrests, etc. etc. We should not be playing into their spectacle.
This is my suggestion: have a community cookout and carnival either on the other end of the train platform where the monument is, or maybe on that street that was closed off last time, right next to them, and just let them do their thing, don't play into their shit, invite the neighborhood to come have some cheap tacos (MECHA folks out there, I know you can make this happen!), some ice creams, some jugos frescos, etc. Pass out information, talk to people, have some dancing, some teatro maybe (I was saying some of us could dress like pilgrims and grill some elote (corn) and take it as an "offering" to the SOS "natives", funny stuff like that). Let their shit fizzle out.
Let's beat them with an army of taco vendors and paleteros and IG-NORANCE--as in, let's just ignore them and make a vibrant, festive, communal space instead!!! Somebody bring some phat banda music, some nortenyas, some rancheras. hell, let's stop off in ELA and pick up some mariachis on the way!!! Hip hop artists, rappers, punkeros, too. There was a lot of cool sexy people at the last demo--I say we get some good music going and some dancing, some charla...much more fun than yelling at a bunch of tontos with their heads up their culos.
oh, and we should try to make un monton de potato tacos or something for all the vegetarianos don't get left out---food not bombs peeps, you out there??
This could be just one component of other actions. just some ideas. we have to remember to always stay creative, don't let them rope us into predictable roles and games, and don't let other groups on "our side" get their grubby sectarian paws into trying to organize and "lead" this according to their agendas and party platforms--I've already heard some of you grumbling about how the last demo lacked "organization" and we need "leadership" in the future (all that icky spontaneity and chaos is just too much for some folks). No, we need to have FUN, PEOPLES!!! Love, joy, desire, laughter, humor--these will always be our most powerful weapons against domination from all sides.
So let's have some fun!
By the way, May 15 was the one year anniversary of Gloria Anzaldua's passing; maybe we could make this a celebration in honor of her.

You might want to stress no alcohol, eh? Your idea is good nonetheless.

Who is Raska Che? Are you part of an organization or just an individual. We have to be careful about how does "call-outs". Only community based Raza organizations should make such call outs. I hope Raska Che is part of an organization and if you are please name it. Thank you.

Thanks for clarifying who has the right to organize a party and how they can do it, Mr. Magoo--digo, Magon!
Next time I do a call-out and invite my friends over for a party, I'll be sure to run it by you first!
Any other self-righteous, hierarchically based, top-down decision-makers please feel free to send your suggestions. Any one interested in helping out with an egalitarian, communal and consensus based effort to effectively counter this threat and at the same time have some fun and NOT TAKE OURSELVES SO DAMN SERIOUSLY, please help out, because your help would be very much appreciated.
By the way, Raska Che is a hardcore revolutionist and part-time payasista who has worked in the community with Zapatista affiliated and community projects, tutoring little esquincles after school, helping to organize against gentrification and stuff like that. Active member of the MPB--Magonista Payaso Brigade--and honorary member of Che's Chess Champions, Raska enjoys dancing, long walks on the beach, popcorn with Tapatio, and avoiding all group ideologies and institutions.

No one has a right to take control of a movement. If there are true leaders, they become targets. Every group / person has a right to assemble and voice one's political position, and every person / group has a right to publicly criticize another. The last time we let groups dominate our lives, the republicans and democrats formed. And now these two corporate owned fascist groups continue to dominate our lives. Raska Che, I hope you support others in obtaining our common goals, but I think you idea is a great one, and my vote is to make your idea a reality.
Never let egos come before our goals. And remember, it is the diversity of people, groups, and tactics that gives us our strength. (You can't cut the head off a movement that does not have one). These SOS and MMP people could attack the leaders of dozens of groups, and dozens more would step up take their place. The only way for them to win, is for them to disband, and leave. The people united CAN NOT be defeated... This statement is too true.

The MMP volunteers like me wont attack your leaders. Dont worry yourselves about things like that. We are harmless fuzzballs unless you start the incident.
By the way, my daughter is a big carne asada fan ! Can she come down to your side of the train station on the 25th to load up before the protest ? I promise the only thing that will get bitten is the hopefully home made corn tort !

So there are white racists coming to town to tear down a monument created by one of our Chicana artistas... never mind, ignore them - let's party!
So vigilantes want to militarize the border with private armed patrols, never mind... let's eat tacitos and have fun!
So our protestors are run over cars driven by fascistas... whatever - let's have a party!
Man, you guys are loco! Baldwin Park doesn't need a bunch of wing-nut anarchists dancing around pretending they're revolutionaires while la gente are under attack. This is no time for a party and political games. And if you think it is... why not just stay at home with some dvds and some cerveza? Get real vatos, and get organized.

http://www.thedarkwind.org/june25.htm I'll be calling the Mayor's office to see if there are any restrictions that would keep us from bring picnik lunches or asking food vendors to sell to us, and I'll call some caterers to see what a couple of hundred hambergers would cost me -- or I'll have 20 pizzas delivered. If such food can be brought to hand out for free to anyone who didn't bring lunch, we would need a table to set the food on -- and I don't have any tables, not since I'll be on a bicycle for 8 miles. We might consider just setting up sandwhich makings or just bringing a hundred sandwhiches or something.

We will party!!!!
As soon as the long war is over, and we have had full victory.
Once our borders are shut down, and sealed forever.
Once we have rid our great country, of each and every single illegal immigrant.
We will party!!!! One and long lasting party!!! Victory for America!!!!!

You do not stand a chance.
This is America!!!!!!
Not Mexico!!!!
Mexicans, do not have the right to assemble in my country.
Mexicans, must leave my country now. That is the only right you have.
This is my country!!! Not yours!!! All Mexicans, must leave now.
I know 1planet 1 person, you do not live in reality.
Americans are assembling everywhere in America, to end this invasion.
The fight is not just in Baldwin Park, or in Grove Garden. The war is all over America.
Americans are uniting, against Mexicans who do not belong here.
THE INVASION WILL BE STOPPED!!!!!
So, lay your bottles and rocks down, before someone starts picking up guns.

I think it's better to party than to just show up.
You all can talk militant, but, this is a media spectacle.
The party and the fight are the same thing.

You should really cease and desist.
You don't have a base in the Chican@, Mexican@ or CentroAmerican@ communities, you don't represent the community, you are going off on an individualistic track all by yourslef with no backing, no base and - clearly, even by your own admission - no experience.
You are ignoring and disrespecting the community that is organizing, not even bringing your ideas to them for consultation.
You know when the meetings are - all of us who care know. There is no excuse for this kind of individualism.
!Unate con tu pueblo! !No seas sinverguenza!
Your People on the border are dying.
Leave your damn pizza and burgers at home and hit the streets in defense of your pueblo. Bring a #%^* flag.
If you'd been there in the street , if you'd seen the blood in the damn street, if you'd seen your friends and comrades laying there run over by the fascists, maybe you'd show some damn respect.
