WHEN: Monday, June 6th at 6pm WHERE: Santa Monica Board Room, Business Building, Room 117, Santa Monica College, 1900 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica, CA WHY: After a full school year of being ignored by the Board, the students of Santa Monica College are fed up. On Monday, June 6th at 6pm they plan take to their message straight to a meeting of the board. Students are currently still attempting to get the campus issues they care about placed on the board’s list of agenda items, but so far to no avail. The main issues of concern are the continued presence military recruiters on the campus. Students have collected 1000’s of signatures requesting the recruiters be banned from the campus. They have requested meetings with the college administration. They held peaceful demonstrations. None of these efforts have received any meaningful response from the Board. The second issue is the selection of the current governor of California to give the commencement address at the graduation ceremonies this June 14th. The vast majority of students and teachers do not want him there. Yet despite these objections the board has selected a widely unpopular actor turned politician to appear at their ceremony. This is a ceremony to honor the academic achievements of those students who have earned a college degree and not a stage for a governor who is cutting funds for higher education.
