Netkin arrested

Valley dingbat Hal Netkin ran a phone bank during the mayoral election that called voters with automated anti-Villaraigosa messages. He's obsessed with immigrants and the mayor-elect, and on his website calls Villaraigosa "the MECHista mayor who virtually takes his orders from Mexico City." So, no surprise, Netkin is the guy who was arrested last night in Orange County for driving his van into a crowd of Latinos protesting an appearance by the head of the Minuteman Project.

Un-American Activities?

As campaign phone calls go, this one was a doozy. Was it a return to the divisive antics of the last mayoral race, in which winner Jim Hahn painted Antonio Villaraigosa as soft on (brown) crime? Is the ugly race card appearing again in time to influence March’s election? “Before voting for mayoral candidate Antonio Villaraigosa, be aware of his ties to racist groups and shocking un-American activities,” said a man identifying himself as Hal Netkin, in an automated call. Turns out Netkin is no tool of Mayor Hahn’s reelection machine. He appears to be a San Fernando Valley gadfly who dislikes all the major candidates and favors conservative Walter Moore. His site, Mayorno.com, calls Villaraigosa a “Mexican nationalist,” State Sen. Richard Alarcón a communist, Hahn a “pay-to-play mayor,” former state Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg a member of an “anti-American” group, Councilman Bernard Parks soft on gangs, and trial lawyer Moore “your only choice.” Villaraigosa spokesman Nathan James writes off Netkin’s crusade as somewhat quixotic. “We don’t think it’s a factor in the race,” James says. “This is a fringe guy with what looks like a vendetta against Antonio. We’re certainly not responding. It’s not worth going there.”

I know from personal witnesses that this report is completely fabricated! Hal Netkin's car was being attacked, his car wipers were torn off and his windows were being pounded on. His car was surrounded by yelling and some violent protestors...so in fear of not being taken out of his car as in previous riots. Hal Netkin slowly tried moving away. All injuries were exaggerated and nothing was serious. The reason he was not charged is because he did nothing wrong. He was a scared old man. The protest was out of hand... it is a shame that those who were hurt because they couldn't protest peacefully. If your car was surrounded and people yelling and beating down on your windows... I ask you, what would you do?

Hal Netkin is Jewish, married to a former illegal immigrant from Mexico and has adopted children from three different countries! His family is about as racially diverse as it gets. He's repeatedly made it clear he supports LEGAL immigration. But, you dickheads only read and hear what YOU want.

Hal was attacked by rabid, reconquista racists - just like yourselves and did the natural thing - he got the fuck out of there. This is from a Japanese person. Someone who is afraid of white people and powerful people because she grew up under fascism, then under occupation, and didn't understand about the civil rights movement.

Needless to say, my father, an American, disagreed with her completely. He was not even a leftist or liberal; he was a moderate conservative. He just grew up here, and knew racism and democratic ideals. He also lost a cousin in the camps. (That's partly why he disliked FDR.)

This is only to show you all... people of color can be racist, ignorant, and fascist. (Also, conservatives can be anti-racist, sometimes.)

You have to separate the ideas from the people who say them.

I have since explained to my mom that were it not for the hard work of Black Americans, she would not have been able to immigrate, to gain citizenship, or even own property. It gave her pause.
