Block this Man! Protest against John Bolton

by 59 diplomats Thursday, Apr. 14, 2005 at 4:49 AM
mbatko@lycos.com

John Bolton said repeatedly that the United Nations only has value when it serves the interests of the US and that the most effective Security Council would be one in which only the US would be a permanent member.

BLOCK THIS MAN!
PROTEST AGAINST JOHN BOLTON

In a letter to the US Senate, 59 diplomats urge that an unscrupulous hardliner not be nominated as UN ambassador

[International relations is normally a quiet affair. But the personnel policy of this US government draws out ambassadors. 59 active and former diplomats of the US protested against the nomination of John Bolton as UN ambassador in an open letter to the US Senate. The former assistant secretary of state is intolerable on account of his political views. The following excerpts from the letter are translated from the German on the World Wide Web, http://www.freitag.de/2005/14/05140703.php.]

For many years, John Bolton has resisted all efforts at improving the security of the United States through arms control. He urged a campaign against ratification of the nuclear test ban treaty. He blocked a comprehensive international agreement on limiting sales of small arms. He collaborated in US non-participation in Ottawa’s land mines treaty. The withdrawal of the United States from the attempt of 40 states at a verification system in the convention on biological weapons goes back to the initiative of John Bolton. He was also instrumental in canceling the ABM-treaty that considerably restricted missile defense.

As the chief negotiator of the 2002 Moscow treaty that limits bilaterally the dislodging of nuclear weapons, he insured that neither the verification nor the mutual reporting were adequately settled. The actual destruction of non-dislodged nuclear weapons and continuous steps of disarmament were hardly negotiated in this agreement. As the assistant secretary of state for arms control and international security, John Bolton did hardly anything to improve the legal status of US officials who were concerned with Russia for the security of the arsenal of ABC-weapons of the former Soviet Union or to protect that arsenal from theft, illegal sale and seizure by terrorists.

He said repeatedly that the United Nations only has value when it serves the interests of the US and that the most effective Security Council would be one where only the United States would be a permanent member. Given that attitude, how will he negotiate with representatives of 96 percent of humanity concerning enlarging the Security Council and strengthening UN peace-keeping capacities. The commissioned work of John Bolton for Taiwan and his idea that the US should treat Taiwan as a sovereign state and that it is pure fantasy to assume an armed response of the People’s Republic of China in the case of Taiwan’s succession must raise doubts whether he has the balanced judgment necessary for an IN ambassador.

Bolton

by Meyer London Thursday, Apr. 14, 2005 at 7:38 AM

This clown Bolton seems like a caricature of the kind of personality that capitalist/patriarchal society specializes in producing - a loudmouth who kisses up to power, bullies those below him on some hierarachical chain of command chart, assumes that it is his right and the right of the nation he lives in to use violence against others if they can get away with it, and a lover of corporate/military values and methods. He is Bush without a rich daddy and with a few more brain cells. He would be pathetic if he wasn't so dangerous to the lives and wellbeing of others.

Just wrote a letter to President Bush commending him on this nomination. Bolton is going to do loads of good at the UN.

curtailed or reigned in

by yorp Thursday, Apr. 14, 2005 at 4:45 PM

How do you rein in a trained poodle? When the client countries don't do the 'right' thing, which is anything we want them to do, the repercussions are always spiteful and way out of proportion to the perceived affront to the credibility of our blood sucking corporate stock holders who hide behind US military power.
You must be kidding. As Fey Dunaway told Robert Redford, in The Three Days of the Condor " when have I ever denied you anything?"
The UN has always been our Bitch.

What points? The lies or your pin head?
You distain the NYT when it is a liberal rag but when it is a fascist rag you follow every word.
Why don't You address My point?
About the UN being our bitch since it was created. What US military adventure have they ever stoped? You're just whining about the fact that they don't laap up our shit with a smile all the time.

But here is a thought.

by yorp Saturday, Apr. 16, 2005 at 4:51 PM

I personally think that the blood suckers don't want to pay to keep the facade up any more and they feel that their power is so great that the show of any kind of international body under rule of law is just the wasting of what's rightfully theirs.
Never satisfied untill they get it.
Everything.
Global pirates. They don't need no stinking laws.

BAD DADDY

by Department of Corrections Sunday, Apr. 17, 2005 at 12:18 PM

He sounds like a bad dad.

Th fact that people are smearing him on this personal issue probably means that they don't have better reasons to oppose him.
