PRO [Peoples Ratification Of] Kyoto
As a resident of Australia, one of the other countries who's government has yet to sign the Kyoto agreement, I feel totally unrepresented in this innaction and I see a public mind distracted by issues, skillfully presented to us by a well trained corporate media, that will seem insignificant when you consider the threat we pose to our future existance. I also fear a mainstream media that will continue in it's failure to bring the facts about climate change to the people until "our top story tonight is...here's Tom with the weather"
With this in mind I came up with The PRO (Peoples Ratification Of) Kyoto that I put forward to any community or grass roots activist organisations I can find to consider or build on. So next month, March 16 2005, I hope to convince a little shopping strip of locally owned restaurants in my area to switch off all unnecessary lights appliances not needed to run their business for that evening. I'd like to invite informed people to talk about the issues and significance of the date, when one month ago, governments of 140 countries signed the Kyoto protocol, and that we, the people of this country, pledge that on the 16 of every month we will drastically reduce our energy consumption by signing the PRO (peoples...etc. to be drawn up by some clever activist) by switching off all unnecessary appliances.
