Anti-evolution creationism theory may soon become a thing of the past because now Christian creationism is wearing a new mask called "intelligent design" (ID)..
The ID argument sounds different from old-school creationism, heavy on molecular genetics and biocomplexity as a supporting theory of the presence of an intelligent "Creator". Evolution is not the enemy of IDers, simply a stumbling block to be explained scientifically with the guiding hand of the "watchmaker God"..
The genome itself takes center stage in ID theory as the minimal genomic components found on the most primitive archeobacteria still number in the hundreds..
Many people are aware of biocomplexity from the molecular genome to the macroscopic ecosystem. Using natural selection and evolution (both symbiotic and competition) as a rough guide, ID theory hones in on the near perfection of living systems from the genome on up. This is the primary basis that supports the existence of an intelligent "Creator"..
While it may be possible that the unique complexity of life shows a creator, the arguement doesn't support an external creator over an inate intelligence of the living systems themselves. From the lowest archeobacteria to the tallest redwood or the wisest human, all healthy living beings desire to live. This desire itself could result in a complex genome and biosystem that has all components functioning with near perfection with the interest of surviving and thriving on Earth..
If an external "Creator" is desired to hold all complex biosystems together, wouldn't the Earth-centered spirituality of indigenous peoples be more appropriate to ID theory than a anthropocentric Judeo-Christian (or Islamic) God that rules above in Heaven like some giant string pulling puppet master? Given the known facts of biocomplexity, that's alot of strings! It seems more rational that the energy of Life (or ID)would flow through all living beings in an Earth based system originating from the living beings themselves, with outside input from El Sol..
In the end the ID argument using science to attempt proof of "God's" existance is equally as foolish as atheists using science attempting to prove there is NO "God". Neither arguement will ever be proven. Prefer to remain an agnostic without any certain beliefs concerning whether a "Creator" exists or not. Meanwhile many species are becoming extinct while the ID theory is discussed ad infinitum..
This quote could nicely sum up the ID theory;
"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction."
E. F. Schumacher
