We here at low budget but beautiful Radical Random Rodent Recordings are writing in response to your call: “This is a call-out to Southern California progressive audio makers -- and anyone who wants to be one.” What we would like to present is satire in the form of regular broadcasts of The Religious Left. As to why this story is relevant to today’s press, the headlines broadcast after the 2004 election stated that the religious right had marched in lock-step if not goose-step with the Republican Party, while Christian broadcasting in mp3 audio increasingly dominates the internet as it does mainstream talk radio. Matthew Rothschild of The Progressive, writing about the biblical quotes in Bush’s inaugural speech, warned that “for those who don’t share his faith—and for those who do but who also appreciate the need to separate church from state—America is becoming an increasingly inhospitable place.”
There are things to think about in all this and things to talk about as well. In the posted segment of The Religious Left, our host, Billy Bob Blessid (not currently affiliated with any recognized religious institution, as Billy doesn’t recognize any established institution as being all that religious) satirizes right-wing sermons but also raises serious and timely issues. The point of using humor is politically obvious and long overdue in this too one-sided diatribe. Please enjoy the sample and let us know if we can find a niche in your free speech air space.
