A video grab taken by embedded U.S. Network NBC shows a U.S. Marine pointing his assault rifle at a wounded and unarmed guerilla inside a mosque just before the occupation soldier killed the prisoner with a burst of machine gun fire. The murdered Iraqi prisoner was one of five injured guerillas captured by Marines. NBC's Kevin Sites witnessed the killing while assigned to represent a pool of news organizations. Several US televison networks aired footage of members of the US marine unit entering the mosque in Fallujah before one Marine shot the unarmed, wounded man in the head as he lay prone aganst a wall. Neither NBC nor CNN showed the shooting itself... the video was blacked out but the report of the rifle could be heard. The bodies in the foreground are other Iraqi prisoners. Marine shown on US networks shooting wounded man in Fallujah mosque AFP Mon, Nov 15, 2004 http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/iraq_us_fallujah_marine WASHINGTON (AFP) - Several US televison networks aired footage of members of a US marine unit entering a mosque in Fallujah before one marine shot an unarmed, wounded man in the head as he lay prone aganst a wall. Televisions networks said the marine who killed the wounded man had been detained and could face prosecution. The reports said the unnamed marine had been wounded in the face the day before the killing but had returned to duty almost immediately. CBS News showed a still photo from the film depicting the marine standing above the slumped figure aiming his rifle at the man's body. It aired excerpts of a discussion between the marines. "He's dead now," one marine in the squad shouts after the shooting. NBC said the film of the man being shot in the head was "too gruesome" to be seen on screens. NBC said the dead man, one of about five pictured inside the mosque, was an unarmed insurgent who had been discovered the previous day and been left to await medical attention. The sequence was captured on film by an embedded camera operator who entered the mosque with the marine squad. Other networks including CNN, ABC and Fox News also showed the sequence. Lieutentant Colonel Bob Miller, a military judge leading an investigation into the shooting, told NBC in an interview that the rules of engagement in Iraq "authorize the marines to use force when presented with a hostile act or hostile intent." Miller added: "Any wounded -- even in this case wounded -- insurgent, who does not pose a threat would not be considered hostile." The Defence Department in Washington said it had no information about the incident. **** Full story at MSNBC, at: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6496898/ Sites was present when a lieutenant from one of the units asked a Marine what had happened inside the mosque. The Marine replied that there were people inside. “Did you shoot them?” the lieutenant asked. “Roger that, sir,” the second Marine replied. “Were they armed?” the lieutenant asked. The second Marine shrugged in reply. Sites saw the five wounded men left behind on Friday still in the mosque. Four of them had been shot again, apparently by members of the squad that entered the mosque moments earlier. One appeared to be dead, and the three others were severely wounded. The fifth man was lying under a blanket, apparently not having been shot a second time. One of the Marines noticed that one of the severely wounded men was still breathing. He did not appear to be armed, Sites said. The Marine could be heard insisting: “He’s f---ing faking he’s dead — he’s faking he’s f---ing dead.” Sites then watched as the Marine raised his rifle and fired into the man’s head from point-blank range. “Well, he’s dead now,” another Marine said. **** Full story also at, CNN: www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/11/15/marine.probe/index.html "U.S. rules of engagement prohibit American troops from killing any prisoner who does not pose a threat, and commanders say they are worried the video might encourage more insurgents to fight to the death rather than surrender."

As an American citizen, humanitarian, and person of conscience, I vow that I will encourage the prosecution of every war crime and war criminal from G. W. Bush to the most lowly private in this unjust war. I support our troops: the ones who desert, go AWOL, or otherwise refuse to fight. There will be no hiding from justice. War criminals will be tracked down and prosecuted with the zeal of the Nuremburg tribunals.
Let the war crimes tribunals begin:

This will have a negative effect on morale if this Marine is court martialed. Having been shot at all day long, his adrenaline was still pumping and he smoked a half dead terrorist. We should be giving him a medal instead of having to listen to the media bitch and moan about it.

At first, one would think that this is going to be played for all its worth under the heading "American atrocities"... until we read the very next paragraph:
Sites reported a Marine in the same unit had been killed just a day earlier when he tended to the booby-trapped dead body of an insurgent.
Nice try, liberal stooges..

Have my countrymen been so dumbed down by all the corporate lies and government bilge that they can no longer recognized human decency?
There was a time when America proudly hailed it's soldiers for upholding "the rights of man." Our soldiers do not torture... our soldiers don't murder combatants who've surrendered... our soldiers give medical care to wounded enemy soldiers. Now, Murder Inc. has taken over and the slobbering brownshirted pigs who I REFUSE to call "fellow Americans" applaud when American GI's murder captured unarmed wounded prisoners in front of cameras.
Fallujah was a city of over 300,000... it is now a smoldering wasteland where hundreds of innocent civilians are buried under rubble... a place where the dead are eaten by dogs. Some goose stepping Americans - bereft of any semblance of humanity, applaud the slaughter of innocents, and yell for the next Iraqi city to be flattened.
So much for "liberation". This is all going to end very badly... for Iraqis, for Americans, for humanity. This is a war based on lies and deceit, a war that is going to grow ever more out of control until we are all driven insane.
Rational people will work to stop the violence and heal the terrible wounds already inflicted.

Killing thousands of innocent people by the laws of this world, by God if you will, will come back to haunt us either as individuals or as a society. Either way, what the current US administration has begun in Iraq will ultimately result in gloom for all.

I agree it is a corporate media, not a liberal media. That's why I don't believe this video is real. I can't trust the corporate media to tell the truth, much less present a film that's accurate.

Some idiots are decrying the "liberal" media for making a big deal out of the execution of a wounded unarmed Iraqi by a US Marine. One brownshirt posted here: "I don't believe this video is real. I can't trust the corporate media to tell the truth, much less present a film that's accurate."
Yeah right... that "liberal" media outlet FOX News broadcast the video taped execution in order to undermine the American war effort. I hate to burst the bubble you jingoistic rightists live in, but those of us in the "reality based community" see the facts before our eyes. The US Marine Corps has taken the trigger happy jar head caught shooting a wounded prisoner in front of an NBC camera crew and placed him under investigation! Lt Col Bob Miller of the US Marine Corps, stated: "Enemy wounded -- and, in this case, insurgents -- who don't pose a threat, ah, would not be considered hostile generally." Lt General John Sattler of the US Marine Corps, stated: "Let me make it perfectly clear -- we follow the law of armed conflict and we hold ourselves to a high standard of accountability."
Face it you dull witted, war happy, knuckle dragging troglodytes... one stupid ass of a US Marine shot and killed an unarmed and wounded Iraqi who was not only a prisoner, but was lying on the ground totally out of commission... and he got caught committing this murder on video tape. An unnamed US Marine commander expressed dismay over the possible repercussions of Iraqi fighters seeing this video taped execution. Why would they put down their guns and surrender to an army that executes wounded prisoners?
It's one thing to support this miserable war... it's quite another to applaud the killing of unarmed and wounded prisoners. Perhaps the Marine who killed the prisoner can be forgiven for being deathly afraid for himself and his fellow soldiers... after all, war does terrible things to all involved. But the little "patriotic" monkeys and the cowardly chicken hawks who yell their approval of this bloody crime from the comfort of their homes... those ultra nationalist cretins who say the trigger happy Marine should "get a medal" for killing his prisoner... THOSE people are the real criminals. They willingly support and justify war crimes.

I am Greek, totally disgusted by the mess the new allied army turns the world into and the mindless support that people who have been bred with a cowboy attitude offer to this foul cause.
First, America was lured, like a stupid snail, into a war. Now every civilized person knows that the Trojan war was made for money, Helen being the excuse. But when we are talking about the average American, this civilized standard fails so much that it even leads to the re-election of an idiot who lied, abused his power and dragged America to the hell that is going to take place in the years of retribution to come, because in every place (like Earth) where physics apply, you cannot force a balanced scale without eventually having it violently try to come into place.
The results of this vulgarly inhuman action of bringing war to a country whose only crime was to possess oil, flattening an ancient city like Baghdat and continuing to fight those 'bloodthirsty guerillas' who simply bravely defend their land from an invader that sees murder, ruin and domination as just another video game, is continued with the new Nazi Axis of the American and the Brittish forces expanding looking for more blood and territory, all with the tolerance of their populations who, like mindless moo moos, instead of violently overthrowing these war breeding parasites from positions of power, even support the by voting for them again! And now we see that the Americans, having such an education that they always had (no offence to the bright exceptions that I know that live in this nation, all offence to the rest) simply disrespect the laws of international warfare in they worst way: they directly break them, because to them the Iraqui are just some 'strange allien beings' probably, since before the war they didn't even know that a place called Iraq existed in the map. Such desperate is now the condition of the planet, that the two, as the historical facts lead us to, major expansionist forces of the planet, America and the always busy trying to colonize the whole fucking place Brittish, advance in their new era of bloodshed.
I have an idea. Why don't we try to leave aside all anger, hate and bigotry and, quite simply, never take arms against our brother again? Because that's what humans are. The only things that separate them are lines drawn in the map by people who want a crowd to control and spill in war against others, for their personal sport. Iraq is a wrong that shouldn't be fought be Americans. Stupidity and Bush are two wars that are worth fighting, while there is still time.
