Voices of Iraq video is pro-occupation propaganda

by Richard Myers Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004 at 8:31 AM

The Voices of Iraq video is being promoted as fair and balanced, but is financed by right wing organizations.

Don't be fooled by the Voices of Iraq video.

They're promoting it as if it was a progressive documentary. It is nothing of the sort. It appears to be timed to influence the student vote.

There is money behind this project. Rather than volunteers distributing flyers, the organizations promoting it have hired PR companies to put up posters and get the word out.

Their website says, "Magnolia Pictures will release Voices of Iraq in 10 cities across the U.S. (including: New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and San Francisco) Friday, OCTOBER 29th." That's convenient, just in time for the election.

I've seen the video. It starts out presenting both sides of the occupation issue, but then launches into a puff piece that suggests everything is fine and secure in Iraq.

Please watch this website to see if the video is being shown on a campus near you, and find some way to provide context for students who may be mis-informed by this propaganda.

I'll try to provide additional information about the organizations behind the video soon.

Voices of Iraq Opinion Forum

by whosevoices@gmail.com Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004 at 5:54 AM

I saw this film last night at a premiere in Minneapolis, MN and setup the above Web site today to help provide alternate outlets for people's opinions and frustrations about the film. Please feel free to distribute the link and my e-mail address to keep people talking about this issue.
