Former Soviet Union Won 2004 Olympics

by Socialist Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004 at 11:01 PM

Labor's collective wealth, as represented by the medals won at the Olympic Games in 2004, made possible 162 medals, with 45 of them gold, for the former Soviet Union putting it in first place, and 103 medals, wth 35 of them gold, to the US, putting it in second place, out of 301 medal events.

The former Soviet Union countries winning medals in the 2004 Olympic Games were Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. They demonstrated that 13 years after the end of the Soviet Union, the strength of the non-profit, planned economy that existed in the Soviet Union, fought for and defended by labor, continues to make possible the training of today's medal winners, most of whom were trained after the end of the Soviet Union as most athletes at these games are under age 30.

It is labor's wealth that makes it possible for some people to spend their time worrying about a gymnastic routine, for example, instead of providing the basic necessities of life.

Most of the American athletes came from the upper middle class and these medals for this class are awards for singing the company tune. That is the meaning of all the flag waving. All national flags are the bosses' flags; the red flag is the workers' flag.

This second place finish for the US will become more obvious and the standings lower in the next Olympics as the real estate bubble that we currently have in the US will burst on November 3, 2004, the day after the election, regardless of which ruling, capitalist class candidate is selected (Bush or Kerry).

We cannot have guns and butter. Only labor can guarantee that we have butter instead of guns; Olympic medals instead of war medals, or more likely, war deaths or serious diabling injuries. The primary law and goal of capitalism is maximization of profit. Those profits are derived from our labor; they are our stolen labor. The largest profits are made in war profiteering. The tax dollars used to pay for warmongering are stolen from our social services budgets. The workingclass does not benefit from war; we can and must have peace.

The most important contingent we can all march in at any demonstration is the LABOR CONTINGENT and beyond the marches, the most important and urgently needed political activity we can do is LABOR ORGANIZING.
