WHAT IS GOING ON AT KPFK???????????

by HELP Wednesday, Jul. 14, 2004 at 8:09 PM

KPFK's web stream is now classical music . . .

KPFK's web stream is now classical music

No one picks up the phone on the studio line.

It's supposed to have "public affairs" content right now according to the program schedule!

Some voice called it "listener sponsored classical" ...

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried to contact any other Pacifica stations?

Any information on why the station went down?

Classic Music is Interfering Station XLNC

by KPFK Listener Thursday, Jul. 15, 2004 at 5:58 AM

FYI, there is a Mexican station called XLNC that jams KPFK wherever and whenever its signal is weak. That is what you were hearing. Apparently, the KPFK signal went out and XLNC was all that was left.

The FCC has refused to do anything about XLNC even though they broadcast at more than their allowed power. However, this incident was no doubt caused by some kind of technical problem at KPFK itself.

Who really cares?

by KPFK Listener Thursday, Jul. 15, 2004 at 3:29 PM

You guys really need to find alternative media sources anyway. KPFK is biased to the point of fascism and is no better than watching Scarbourough Country. KPFK prefers to be adversarial instead of resolution based or even fact based and it creates nothing but "leftist hate," which delegitimizes the cause. If the "left," or rather, if truly progressive people want to change the world, we cannot do it by drawing lines in the sand and lobbing nasties at each other. What's the point of being a fundamentalist liberal? You're just as bad as a fundamentalist Christian if you can't find a way for both sides to be happy. For instance, you can support Michael Moore, which I do, but you don't have to believe everything he says. Likewise, you can hate bush, which I do, but you don't have to disagree with everything he's done just because he did it. You have to present valid reasons why you disagree with both Moore and Bush to be fair. No one is perfect, especially the left which prides itself on Communist values that from experience I can say never worked in Russia for instance. Communism however does work on a smaller scale, on a Kibbutz or commune level where there is close physical proximity to the leaders and led. But for a country, the variables in leadership make some pigs more equal than other animals regardless of law. That is a fact which cannot be changed unless we change the entire human consciousness. A lofty goal indeed.

The FCC re XLNC/KPFK

by Myla Reson Thursday, Jul. 15, 2004 at 4:51 PM
myla4justpeace@yahoo.com

The FCC has written letters to XLNC with respect to their failure to comply with many of the basic conditions of their operating permit.

It is interesting to note that XLNC's owner Victor Diaz owns three or four other radio stations in Tijuana which he leases to Clear Channel.

Clear Channel actually tried to intercede on behalf of XLNC in the matter of interference with KPFK's signal.

You can find copies of many related documents on the website of Pacifica's Engineer Don Mussel:

the left which prides itself on Communist values

Really.

That's a broad brush there comrade. And certainly it's on the wrong wall. For instance I'm a constitutionlist. Please. Speaking for myself we would be a hell of a lot better off eliminating the blatant conflicts of interests and outright criminality which could allow democracy to function.

I love classical music. Bully for XLNC.
