On June 21, 2004 the United States Supreme Court ruled that you no longer have the right to remain silent. The government committed another smashing blow to civil liberties when the Court had a majority of 5-4 against the right to remain silent. The case, Hibbel v. Sixth Judicial District, came into being when Larry Hibbel broke a Nevada law when he refused to give his name to his policeman, citing he had a constitutional right to remain silent. The government can now turn a person's silence into a criminal offense. This is shocking but I'm not surprised seeing how that horrible Patriot Act was passed.
