racism?

by ad. Tuesday, Jun. 29, 2004 at 1:31 PM

racism? i see someone who is pointing out the racism in clinton by calling him a cracker or a honky. when you say cracker to a white, you imply (metaphorically, maybe literally) that they are cracking the whip. you are calling out characteristics related to the slavemaster. when i say, stop talking honky, im telling someone to recognize white privilege and racism. racism is race prejudice plus power. people of color historically and presently do not have power. people of color are tokenized and used. white has a long history of aggression, genocide, enslaving, rape, etc... to maintain white supremacy. amerikkka is white supremist, capitalist, imperialist, patriarchal empire. i see nothing racist in calling clinton a cracker. clinton is part of empire. until your politics of race, class, gender, ableism, etc... become more comprehensive, dont be surprised if someone calls you're shit out in anger or in love.

confronting -isms

by BS stopper Tuesday, Jun. 29, 2004 at 2:55 PM

I admire your efforts to explain away the racism/stereotyping of whites but they don't jibe. And I thank you in advance for your input.

There are no more "slavemasters" in America and no one has been a slave for somewhere around 140 years. Clinton, detestable as he was, was never a slaveowner.

Now there are agents of an odious racial grievance industry that do try to strongarm "Whitey," the government, or a hapless company for a free check or other freebies. This is otherwise known as a "shakedown."

Sadly, the shakedown is becoming a comon practice among people who may not believe in hard work because, 'the system is rigged" and steer clear of higher education because, "That's a white man's game." Note that those whispering in the ears of the disenfranshised that "they can't make it" are not conservatives, as you don't listen to them. Could it be leftists are somehow demoralizing minorities into submission?

Fulfiling my no BS policy, it is true that 'cracker' and 'honk(e)y' are far less offensive to whites than the "N-word" is to blacks. The N-word can also be used to describe a certain type of anti-social behavior.

Unlike the left, I have no interest in censoring anyone or accusing the anti-Clinton poster of a "hate crime."

I will however, call BULLSHIT on putting America down simply for not being a utopia. Racism and other -isms do exist, yet in no other nation do people of color have it so good as in America. NO OTHER.

As proof, the people who truly think America is a terrible place either stay in their own lands or are free to leave.

Final Thought: there are plenty of poor whites who somehow have no idea that "white privilege" even exists. it may be your mission to point out to these lost souls why they too aren't Kerrys or Trumps.

places for people of color

by more rational Tuesday, Jun. 29, 2004 at 9:45 PM

" I will however, call BULLSHIT on putting America down simply for not being a utopia. Racism and other -isms do exist, yet in no other nation do people of color have it so good as in America. NO OTHER. "

What about Japan? Japanese have it good there, and they are people of color. The other colors might not have it so good, though.

Also, it depends on how you define "having it good". It's pretty good here, overall, but only because we work so hard on being fair to everyone. It's always the progressives pushing forward, so that things are more fair.

And what's the result?

People from all over want to come to America, especially the most talented people. This is one way that America maintains global dominance -- by having the talent leave one place, and show up in America. And where do they go? California and NY, where immigrants face the least racism. Not coincidentally, these are the wealthy states.

This isn't a justification of immigration, but my opinion of how immigration works. Please consider it as such, and not as some kind of propaganda.

white privilege

by more rational Tuesday, Jun. 29, 2004 at 10:10 PM

"Final Thought: there are plenty of poor whites who somehow have no idea that "white privilege" even exists. it may be your mission to point out to these lost souls why they too aren't Kerrys or Trumps."

Agreed. This is what neo-nazi groups do: explain class warfare to working class whites, and then twist it into a justification for the resumption of segregation, and perhaps even genocide against nonwhites.

White radicals need to get out there and tackle the issue of white poverty, because that's the nest in which fascism will nurture the next generation of nazis. They're the guys who will see that by bringing back legal racism, that white people at the bottom will get a "leg up" on the people of color.

When a POC talks about "white people", they should be clear they're talking about certain white people, and their collaborators.

An analysis of racism is nothing without an analysis of class and gender. It's weak without a discussion about geography, too.

still #1

by BS stopper Wednesday, Jun. 30, 2004 at 7:55 AM

What about Japan? Japanese have it good there, and they are people of color. The other colors might not have it so good, though.

>>>> Japan has a mostly homogenous society. Non-Japanese there do not have the same rights and are treated unfairly, including mistreatment by the government and institutions. It is not the same as the USA. The Japanese Americans fought harder than any other group against the Japanese in WW2. It is obvious to anyone who looks closely, despite the paper tiger of overt racism, America is still the #1 land of opportunity for all.

It's pretty good here, overall, but only because we work so hard on being fair to everyone.

>>> It's less social engineering than it is the free market that makes America superior. Color lines don't matter as much when everyone is doing well economically.

Socialist efforts after 1965 switched from "equality" to hostility towards the White majority and now a great voluntary resegregation is taking place, all with the blessing of the same do-gooders.

It's always the progressives pushing forward, so that things are more fair.

And what's the result?

>>> Slowed economic growth, increased enmity between the races, a destruction of America's common history, an elevation from healthy disprespect to outright revolt against once-sacred institutions and fragile unity replaced by balkanized tribes. Just as a managed economy cannot hope to compete with free markets, so does trying to manage personal freedom result in damage to the social fabric. You can't heal when you're only tool is a scalpel.

People from all over want to come to America, especially the most talented people. This is one way that America maintains global dominance -- by having the talent leave one place, and show up in America. And where do they go? California and NY, where immigrants face the least racism. Not coincidentally, these are the wealthy states.

>>>> California won't be wealthy for much longer. Soon it will be a 3rd world shitdump, thanks to enforced illegal immigration. There is plenty of racism in both NY and CA; only it's directed at Whites and therefore ignored.

>>>> Mexico is a wealthy nation as resources go. But the "fairness" of socialism has left it poor, with two distinct classes. Uh oh.

corrections to BS

by more rational Wednesday, Jun. 30, 2004 at 6:49 PM

Japanese Americans fought in Europe, not against Japan. The generals or president or someone decided that it would suck if a Japanese Am had to fight against a "cousin".

Japan is not homogeneous anymore, due to heavy immigration; people migrate to Japan to work. Within Japan, there are large populations of Chinese, Koreans, Filipinos, and some Iranians.

Color lines matter less when the economy is good, but when the economy tanks, the racism and fascism come out again. A free, unregulated market tends to have wilder fluctuations than a regulated one, and have them more often. This implies that a free market can create more equality through prosperity, but, when you have cyclical depressions, inequality is more extreme.

It wasn't "socialism" that happened in 1965. It was Civil Rights. Look it up in a history book. One program that was started as part of Civil Rights was Affirmative Action, which sought to accelerate entry of underrepresented minorities into the workforce.

These programs really hit their stride in the 1970s, and were a response to increased racial tensions in the late 1960s. In ten years, the nation went from segregation to something not quite like equality. People were impatient. So government offices and corporations started to voluntarily make an effort to hire minorities.

Angry white people complained that these new people were underqualified. Some asians also agreed, as did some arabs (who were classified as white). In fact, I have a lot of AA paperwork from that era... a weird leftover from someone who had to do that work... and the affirmative action hires into the jobs this person was monitoring weren't underqualified. They were these college grads, some with advanced degrees.

The people they displaced were workers who were looking for internal promotion. These were generally people with lesser college degrees, or HS degrees, who'd worked their way up in the ranks. Thus, we can see at least one "unfair" dynamic. A person not under AA goes into a career somewhat underqualified, but proves themselves on the job. Along comes an opening, so this person applies for it. Then, along comes an applicant who'd fall under AA with a resume that kicks ass. Who gets the job? Under AA, the latter must get the job (or there's going to be a lawsuit).

AA upset whites, partly, because it upset the system of promotion and favortism that was established within government offices and in large corporations. It enforced the meritocracy for a while.

Yes - AA enforced meritocracy for a while.

Before AA, whites got favorable treatment, because that was the custom.

Later effects are different, as AA has some social effects, like creating a sizeable nonwhite middle class, and, a number of areas where there's a lot of minority political power.

As for the wealth in California... it's hard to dispute when you drive through the midwest.

The "free market" in California has create a bilingual society, and nativists are always trying hard to implement "English only" laws. The problem is, the economy is no longer English only. It's Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese. The Chinese were invited quite openly, because many of them had capital. The Mexicans are close by, and it's pretty close to impossible to stop them from coming over, and so many are coming over legally. California's always had a strong Mexican influence. The Filipinos come here to shore up the health care system that's understaffed. The Vietnamese are refugees, who fought against Communism.

Above and beyond them, there's a huge population of English people escaping taxes, Armenians escaping the USSR, Irish escaping the English imperialism, Indians escaping poverty, and Russians escaping Russia. There's also internal migration from the midwest of people coming to work in the media, and they're escaping boredom and economic malaise. There are a lot of GLBTs from all over the Americas coming to escape repression.

When the "best and brightest" decide to work in California, even as poor people, they contribute to the economy.

Moreover, local resentment against immigrants is often muted by the simple fact that, when immigrants enter an area, there are often some Americans there ready to employ them and make a profit off immigrant labor. If an American owns some land in the city, they crowd in and raise the property values. The seeds are there to create a(nother) "split labor market" -- and usually, it's the natives who are "on top".
