“It’s a Class War and We’re Loosing” with
Bill Moyers
At the recent Conference “Inequality Matters” Bill Moyers outlined the new class war being waged by the rich and giant corporations. Thru campaign
contributions they’ve strengthened their hold on the government, with a conscious policy to bankrupt the budget to destroy governments role in everything except rewarding the rich and waging war.Through the budget battles they destroy the common wealth for all to share, exacerbate income disparities while the corporations tighten their power and wealth at the expense of us all.
And
The BBs of Wealth with
Chuck Collins, Co-Director United for a Fair Economy
Demonstrates the wealth gap between the super-rich and average Americans by pouring BBs into a metal stockpot
- And –
Income Inequality Matters with
Meizhu Lui, Executive Director, United for a Fair Economy
Meizhu Lui was a Boston City Hospital kitchen worker for 20 years, rising with the rank and file to become President of AFSCME Local 1489. Now as Executive Director of United for a Fair Economy she expands on Moyers analysis showing how income distribution in the U.S. has grown increasingly unequal creating the biggest wealth and income gap since the Hoover Administration and outlining its its insidious implications for health, education, justice, community, and democracy, While the richest one percent saw their financial wealth grow by 109 percent from 1983 to 2001, the bottom two-fifths fell by 46% while middle class incomes stagnated Lui also focuses on the effect of discrimination against people of color which continues to rob them of their fair share of economic wealth while the legacy of past discrimination creates a historical legacy of poverty passed from generation to generation.
