35) Private citizens don't need a gun for self-protection because the police are there to protect them even though the Supreme Court says the police are not responsible for their protection.
36) Citizens don't need to carry a gun for personal protection but police chiefs, who are desk-bound administrators who work in a building filled with cops, need a gun.

All my kids are proficient at fire arms, being trained my yours truly.
This means loading, unloading, striping and cleaning as well as live fire discipline and muzzle direction awareness. I pity the poor fool who tries to break into the house.

Guns have nothing to do with crime. That is why thousands of people every year are murdered in Los Angeles, Houston and New York but only a handful are murdered in London, Tokyo and Rome. The easy availability of guns in the US is beside the point and is only a coincidence.

I believe it's the culture rather than the availability of fire arms in particular. Look at the media for the promotion of the use of guns in its cop/terror/drama entertainment. This is done intentionally.
It's all part of the fear industry. It also inures us to violent death.
