Quito.-
The time bomb that was Ecuadorian prisons has exploded violently in the
past few days, with 34 prisons rioting, chiefly in Quito and Guayaquil, but all
with the common complaint over deteriorated conditions of life. Both men´s and
women's prisons are in chaos, with demands by prisoners, administrative
employees and guards. In some places it is difficult to distinguish between
righteous protests and gang wars.
