LNG stands for Liquified Natural Gas where the gas is frozen to minus 260 degrees and then shipped in huge LNG tankers and then regasified in this case in Long Beach harbor. Each tanker carries 60,000,000 gallons of volatile, flammable LNG. We don't need this energy. It comes from places such as the Amazon and Sakhalin Islands in Russia, from Australia, and Indonesia. This fossil fuel is being sold to us as "clean energy" but instead they are polluting and dangerous. There are nearly 10 similar projects proposed for the Pacific coast from Baja and Oxnard. There is another way. Consider that more than half of all the powerplants in California are over 40 years old and super inefficient. If California upgraded its powerplants to become more efficient, there would not even be a need for any LNG shipments. This is saving efficiency improvements not to mention solar and wind energy choices that are cost competative with LNG now. The permitting process is fully under way and we need to flood the regulatory agencies now to ensure a clean energy future. .

Stop the construction of the first on-shore Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) facility in California. Despite the state's attempts to become a clean energy leader by passing a renewable portfolio standard and community choice legislation, corporations are still trying to keep the state locked into its dirty energy past.
Mitsubishi is proposing to build a large liquefied natural gas import terminal in the middle of Long Beach Harbor, the west coast's busiest port. The terminal will consist of two large and dangerous LNG storage tanks. Mitsubishi admits that the terminal will add air pollution in Los Angeles. Huge tankers would cross the Port of Long Beach on a routine basis. Up to 185 tractor-trailer trucks would be used to move fuel from the site to customers and refueling stations in the L.A. Basin. These trucks will primarily use Highway 710, one of the most hazardous stretches of interstate highway in the state.
Instead of allowing dirty and dangerous energy resources to be built in California, the state should invest in clean, safe renewable energy.
Take Action! Send a letter to elected officials demanding that they stop the LNG terminal in Long Beach and invest in Clean Energy Now!

In a not-so-curious repeat of American corporate foreign policy disaster, the newest LNG extraction ground is Kazakhstan, led by a brutal dictator with a terrible human rights record.

ExxonMobil, one of the psychopath bush's favorite corps is funding this death regime by building huge facilities there to get at the LNG, and of course US taxpayers and dying soldiers will foot the bill of getting the LNG from the Kazakh fields through Afghanistan to the ports so ExxonMobil can continue to make their profits and undermine democracy here and internationally.

Do we want Long Beach to be a part of this corruption, waste, and torture?
