Apparently, the "League of Women Voters" is sponsoring this discriminatory debate. They are attempting to define for the United States who is a "major Democratic candidate" and who is not. This sham must not go unnoticed. They also have the blunt gall to hold this thing at the "Museum of Tolerance," in an act of overt hypocrisy one would expect from the Bush regime.
Dennis Kucinich is now steaming ahead of Wesley Clark and John Edwards in the Washington State and Maine races. His strong showing in Maine is of particular importance. If Edwards and/or Clark are allowed on that stage, yet Kucinich is denied, this would be the height of overt media manipulation of our allegedly democratic electoral process.
Whatever bogus criteria this "League of Women Voters" chooses to throw up as an obstacle must be shattered completely.

NBC TO TELEVISE DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY DEBATE SPONSORED BY LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF THE U.S.
January 14, 2004
DEBATE FEBRUARY 22
The League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS), a nonpartisan political organization, has announced their sponsorship of a televised live debate among the leading Democratic candidates for President of the United States, on Sunday, February 22, 2004, in Los Angeles.
The program will broadcast on KNBC and be provided to NBC stations across the country, as well as MSNBC and Telemundo nationally. In addition, the debate will be made available to all other media, including broadcast and cable networks.
To be presented before a live audience at the Museum of Tolerance, the event will be moderated by KNBC News’ Los Angeles anchor Paul Moyer, and will also feature a panel of respected journalists to pose questions of the candidates. Los Angeles cable station LA 36 will provide the media feed to NBC and other outlets live from 5 pm to 6 pm.
“The League provides the debate with a unique credibility and assurance of balanced fair play,” said Kay J. Maxwell, president, LWVUS. “It is important that voters have the opportunity to hear from the Democratic presidential candidates vying for the world’s most powerful position,” she added.
All major Democratic candidates will be invited to participate, subject to their meeting criteria established by the LWVUS. This is the first Presidential primary debate the League of Women Voters of the United States has sponsored since 1992.

Subject: [K4P] Re: debates over?
Actually, the California debate is supposed to be on Feb 22nd at The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. AND the last info I heard is that Dennis is "disqualified" from taking part in this CA debate?!!! We are planning a HUGE rally on the day of this debate. Depending on whether they change their plan and allow Dennis to be part of the debate....we will either be rallying to 'promote' Dennis prior to the debate, or rallying to 'protest' their barring him from the debate! Let's FIGHT to have this be the 'promotion rally'.
Please send an URGENT APPEAL TO Kay Maxwell kmaxwell@lwv.org. and Fax 202 492 0854, and
Xandra Kayden, {debate qualifications criteria) xkayden@ucla.edu and Fax 323 937 4342
"Yes, we'd heard from Susan Fitzgerald:
"I just talked to Will Pitt, and Dennis has now been "cordially
invited" to the LWV Debate in LA on the 22nd. Please let the yahoo
groups know and ask all to TAKE NO FURTHER ACTION!"
I'd just posted it - post #24320.
Please everyone - if you're on a cc list with some people who are
not K4P members, or on a regional yahoo group that hasn't been
alerted yet, let them know this update, so we won't waste any
further time on this. It's been resolved. Dennis will be in the
debate."
