Austria, the home country of Governor Schwarzenegger, has no death penalty, and Austrian political leaders are busy sending letters to their native son to stay the execution of Kevin Cooper, set for 12:01 a.m., Feb 10, 2004.
Austria and the rest of Europe have abolished the death penalty. The United States, being the most backward country in the industrialized world with the highest infant mortality and lowest life expectancy, not to mention being No. 1 in military spending and promotion of the prison-concentration camp system, still has the barbarity known as the death penalty because this backward country promotes punishment instead of rehabilitation, so as to terrorize the weak workingclass into accepting ever worsening wages and working conditions and to provide jobs, better known as payoffs, for the reactionary parasites that constitute the entire criminal injustice system, from the courthouse to the county jail to the prison-concentration camps to the death rows, guaranteeing that every criminal trial is by definition a lynching.
The Feb 7, 2004 San Jose Mercury News reports the story at on Austria's outrage at:
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/local/7899912.htm From the article:
""The death penalty has no legitimate place in the penal system of modern civilized societies," Peter Schieder, an Austrian lawmaker who presides at the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe, the continent's leading human rights guardian, wrote Monday in an open letter to Schwarzenegger. Schieder also called on Schwarzenegger to reconsider his decision to let Cooper die."
We just read in the San Francisco Chronicle today, Feb 7, 2004, that this completely incompetent idiot and outright fascist governor has cigar parties, thus making a mockery of the 1964 Surgeon General's report condemning smoking and the decades of hard work teaching young people not to smoke and helping older people to break the habit. See the letter from the American Lung Asociation, SF Chronicle, 2/7/04 at:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2004/02/07/EDGLO4QT4Q1.DTL This same Neanderthal is promoting a disastrous economic program on the ballot, which must be opposed. Vote No on all state propositions except Prop. 56.
Stop the lynching of Kevin Cooper! Abolish the death penalty now! Recall Arnold Schwartzenegger! Vote only for the anti-death penalty parties' candidates, Peace & Freedom Party and the Green Party. Vote Yes on Prop 56 and No on all the rest!
I thibk the biggest problem they have however is their fondness for voting for Neo-Nazis. Perhaps they dhould get their own house in order before criticisng other countries.
Would that be the same Austria that quickly embraced Hitler in WWII and willingly turned over their Jews? That Austria?
I don't think we should look to Austria for leadership on the death penalty or anything else.
Where the Death Penalty is concerned, we should look to Texas.
That's the one state that leads the world on this topic and they're getting it right.
I think Austria is about the last place we should look to for moral guidance.
