Racism

by Honest Abe Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at 2:48 PM

"I will admit that there are some right-wing pseudo-christian, groups like voz de aztlan in whitey-er, I mean whittier, calfornia, that promote homophobia and anti-jewish american sentiment, but they reflect only a small, middle class, Anglo-identified segment of the larger Latino and Native American community. "

Regarding the last post about racism in the Latino community:

While there is no organized group similar to the outrageous KKK in every race, Latinos are by and large guilty of racism on a grand scale.

Have you ever been involved in a car accident with a Latino?

I have, twice.

Both accidents were clearly not my fault, both times I had independant witnesses and slammed the jerks in court.

However, both times I had to call police to the scene because the drivers either spoke no English, or were abusive.
Here's the kicker, you think white people get preferential treatment by police, hah! Both times I was greeted by Latino officers who immediately took the other guys side, wouldn't take reports, wouldn't question my witnesses, and threatened me for demanding they do their jobs.
On top of that, they spoke cordially and jovially with my counterpart, the two aweful drivers, one who rear ended me and one who ran a red light.

While Mecha or whatever it is called probably has a bad rap, there is increasing evidence that Latino police officers not only are biased against blacks and whites, but more prone to brutality, as in the case of Raphael Perez.

This is not meant to insult the Latino Community. There are good people in every race. But to say there is no such thing as a Latino KKK is really a half truth.
There is no major funded organization, but there is rampant misuse of the system and abuse of "other cultures," by Latinos in uniform. This is not to say everyone doesn't do these types of racist things.

For instance, go to the SSI office. If you are Latino, and you have a Latino case worker, your chances of getting better service are increased.
The SFV SSI office is staffed with Armenians, who do you think gets the easiest trip to the SSI office in SFV?
That's right, Armenians.

While we all should be proud of our race, and we all should be neighborly and kind to each other, there is a difference when benefits and punishments are handed out because of race.

Mecha members (please forgive me if I have the name wrong), are given a leg up by their membership. Much as if I joined a Jewish Council that helped my business or trade.

The utopian and Marxist ideaology that we should all have the same chance and benefit is actually destroyed by some cultures being financially stronger than others.

If you are a Latino Journalist, and I tell my Latino friends this all the time, the Hispanic Journalism Association has got you covered for a job. They are so worked into the system in Los Angeles that you really have an edge based upon race.

To some extent, benefits must be compensatory. But when does it become an innocents loss paying for a victims reparations?
It's not just the white community that should be concerned with stopping racism, nor is it just whites who should care if Latinos are growing more racist.
African Americans will by and large be the hardest hit by the growing sentiment and hiring of Latino officers by the L.A.P.D..
Because their poulation does not grow in the same proportions, their community will lose hardhsip funding to the faster breeding Latinos. Because they do not become police officers as rapidly, their communities will be policed by yet another oppressive race that is not thier own.
We love all people here at IMC, I believe constructive dialogue about rising Latino racism is important.
You cannot just simply deny it and wave it off as if it doesn't exist.
Especially when I have experienced it myself twice, to an extent I would have said greatly traumatised me at a time when I was already hit.
Racism is racism, reverse discrimination is a fact, and there are smaller guys than the little guy getting stepped on also.
I stand firm on financial benefits for the needy regardless of race, on equal treatment for all by police, on fair use of the land by all concerned.
But I am not so unrealistsic as to have never been south of the border and dealt with a Mexican police officer.
Latinos are by no means exempt from criticism for their racism and their legal faults. This is akin to someone saying every minority has a right to be hateful to the "current majority."
And that is just hypocritical hogwash.

The Jewish KKK

by Goldstein Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at 4:40 PM

The JDL is in everyway as racist and hateful as the KKK. Let's not forget the JDL in our list of bigots.

There is no such thing as "reverse racism," Dishonest Abe

by Apache Thursday, Jan. 01, 2004 at 5:40 PM

Since the white liberals at the IMC didn't find it in their interest to post my rebuttal to Dishonest Abe's
response to my original post, I'll have to make it here and make it short.

1.) I never said that Latinos couldn't be racist, only that the notion of a "Hispanic KKK" is ridiculous
in a country where an organization of European American-making, the one and only Klu Klux Klan,
does set the precedent for perpetuating ideologies of white supremacy and bogus notions of
racial purity. Despite the false and flat-out stupid claims by Bill O'Reilly, which Dishonest Abe in his
white guilt gives credence to, the facts stand up that MECHA nor any Latino organization in the U.S.
has ever a.) hung people from trees, b.) burned crosses in people's front yards. c.) burned churches
in the south, and d.) burned entire Black communities in the south and Oklahoma, which was
done by non-KKK European Americans.
2.) To charge "reverse discrimination" based on two traffic incidents in Los Angeles with Latinos is
not only ridiculous, but reeks of racism in itself. Dishonest Abe is shocked to experience what
Chicanos and Latinos in the U.S. have experienced for 500 years and then generalizes the entire
population based on this. Would the same experience occur to him in Orange Countly, Simi Valley.
Santa Barbara, Ukiah, Iowa, the South, Kansas, etc. Sucks when the shoe is on the other foot
doesn't it. That doesn't excuse it, I just wonder if you need a little more cheese and crackers with
your whine. For myself, I did not generalize European Americans, in fact I offered that others
should read a good history of U.S.-Mexico relations by a European American that could put some
perspective on why these racial tensions exist (Empire and Revolution by John Mason Hart). I
would also offer that Dishonest Abe should read the work of Tim Wise and Peggy McIntosh, two
Euro-Americans who directly address "white privilege" and "white guilt" which is what Dishonest
Abe and other white liberals on the IMC and in the progressive movement suffer from. You would
be shocked to find out how many so-called "progressive" listeners at KPFK and in its staff are
anti-immigrant, as an employee there has told me (this is the reason they can't seem to get
those bylaw issues resolved because of these internal race and white privilege issues in their
own house).
3.) By the way, Rafael Perez is a Black-Mexican, just like the last Mexican governor of California,
Pio Pico Rivera. His excesses do not reflect his race (more expressed racism on Dishonest
Abe's part) but how he is a product of a corrupt institution, the LAPD. You would figure that
someone who alludes to Marx would be able to figure that out.
4.) On that note, while I am also sympathetic to Marxism and Racism as a red man, I also know
that such ideologies cannot transcend racism in a white supremacist society. In the former
USSR, people of African and Arab descent were treated like shit (and still are) and we don't
have to get into how Russian Jews are treated. Even Castro's revolution suffered from skin-
privilege in its infancy, where the more light-skinned you were, the more privileges you received.
Luckily, despite some human rights issues, Cuba has transcended this problem, and in a
sense they've also transcended communism. Now what about China and Southeast Asia
where racism still prevails against Koreans and Japanese, based on the legacy of Japan's
imperialism, but are you gonna call them reverse racists?
5.) Dishonest Abe ignores the fact that I did allude to the problem of racism in Mexico, which
stems from the legacy of the Spanish conquest. Before the Spaniards arrived, the Nahua people
didn't even have a concept of race. Now in Mexico you do have racism by people who have
adopted the internally colonized mentality of the Spanish criollo class against people of
indigenous and African descent. If Dishonest Abe alludes to Marx, then he should know
that the institution of race by Europeans, Anglo and Spanish, in North America, was really
a pretense to establish white supremacist ideologies to obscure the Euros real intentions,
to undermine the indigenous people's collectivity with respect to land and resources and
replace it with the European feudal notion of private property. They use race to say you
are savage and inferior when they really just want your land and resources. This is being
repeated in the present in Iraq, which is an Anglo-Saxon invasion and a racist war.

Sorry if the "whitey-er" comment bothered you, but why should it when you know that Whittier
(Mr. Nixon's hometown, the prez who instituted "hispanic" as the official moniker for Latinos)
has always been a bastion of white supremacist conservatism and republicans.

Sorry to make you conscious of your white privilege, or that you feel you are losing it. But don't
worry, a study was just released that shows that George Bush can now depend on white
males (still the majority in this country) to guarantee him a return trip to the white house. Spend
your time dealing with that, rather than trying to chastise Chicanos, Latinos and Native People
for expressing their frustration over 500 years of genocide.

Peace and have a happy new year.

Postscript: On Preferential Treatment

by Apache Thursday, Jan. 01, 2004 at 5:53 PM

By the way, on the racial preferential treatment issue, can you blame socially-mobile hispanics for
using such ideas in a country where the precedent was already set by the Irish, Jews, and Italians
as a means of finally getting some ground in this nation?
Or would you rather fall back on the false notion of meritocracy, which in this country is just
a sham for obscuring institutionalized racism and white supremacy and patriarchy.

Pick up a copy of Peggy McIntosh's "White Priivlega and Male Privilege" and "How the Irish
Became White" by (author's title escapes me, do a search) to get a clue on this.

Excuse me

by mymicz Saturday, Jan. 03, 2004 at 10:05 AM

Jews wrote the book on being the opressed minority. Therefore, for two thousand years, most of us have been fighting racism. This does not mean we are guilt free, it only means we have more practice than the rest.
However, I think abe's point is that Latino's are increasingly practicing racism, homophobia, for which other Latino's are routinely lynched in Mexico, and major bigotry towards African Americans.
What is our friend Apache saying?
It seems that just because his side lost in a supremacy battle he feels that having those types of battles reverse is called justice.
Well Apache, it's just us, and there is no such thing as justice for the distant past, another thing Jews learned.
People, like Peres, need to take responsability for their actions, a product of society is fucking hogwash.
Read Kaffir Boy, since you missed school, and see how a man can overcome anything he needs to.
Your problem is that you think the government can force people under some Marxist Ideology to give a shit about anyone else, and sorry that is not the case. You think that Mexicans are better than everyone obviously because you refuse to acknowledge the horrible racist things they do like everyone else.
Get you head out of your own prideful stupidity and realize people are people.
I think that was abe's point.
You just want a cycle of "he did it first so I can do it too," to continuue, and that is no way to achieve anything.
You may be Apache, but you certainly are no more a warrior than a collosal whiner.
P.S., I know Abe and he hates Oreilly.
