Ron Paul, anti-Patrtiot Act Rep (TX-R), wants Bush reelected

by Bush-Cheney '04 Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003 at 10:44 PM

The "principled plain-speaking" Congressman Ron Paul, who has been perhaps the biggest opponent to the Patriot Act has just been a proud member of Bush-Cheney 2004 re-electoin team.

"We have already made mistakes. Why make more? Why go over there and bomb Iraq under the name of fighting 9/11 in order to get another millionaire furious at us?"

"If we don’t make the proper assessment–the real reason why they come after us versus the story that they give us that [terrorists] hate us because we are free and prosperous–we don’t have much chance of winning this war, this fight against terrorism. As long as everybody believes that, I am very pessimistic that we will get to a reasonable foreign policy...."

I think the only thing we can do is reveal the truth. Politicians aren’t very good at doing that, they are demagogues. So I really haven’t gotten into the right profession to deliver truth. As long as we believe that we are being subjected to terrorist attacks because we are good and honest and free and prosperous nothing much will come of our foreign policy.

--Congressman Ron Paul, Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas

-------------------------

"5 heroic Republicans went on the record as opposing their leaders' folly. Those sneering Europeans who think Texas is synonymous with Bushian warmongering should know that Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), one of the Fearless Five, is the single most consistent antiwar voice in the House."

"I've had a few letters from readers who would dearly like Congressman Ron Paul to run, as he did in 1988. Now that's the kind of doctor we need to run for President: not the politically ambidextrous Dr. Dean, but the principled plain-speaking Dr. Paul. If only he would do iit..."

Libertarians are eating crow

by raven Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003 at 3:31 AM

All these libertarian lugnuts wet their pants at the mere mention of Ron Paul.

Well guess what?

When push comes to shove, Libertarians are really just Republicans who talk about Liberty but vote Authority....

"Our best living example of a libertarian hero is Congressman Ron Paul of the 14th Congressional District of Texas. Congressman Paul once ran for president on the LP ticket and is definitely one of the voices in the wilderness when it comes to advancing the cause of liberty."

-- TheAdvocates.org

http://www.theadvocates.org/celebrities/ron-paul.html

"In a Washington dominated by unctuous Machiavellians who build their lives upon Faustian bargains and ruthless careerism, Ron Paul stands like a majestic oak of clarity and sanity in defense of the American ideal. His watchword is "steadfast adherence to principle." Compromise if need be on the means of implementation. But never on the principle itself. Never on the Constitution. Never on the rights of man."

Ron Paul has a maverick record in Congress -- he is often the one lone dissenter in the House on issues like foreign policy, taxes and budget spending -- and appeals widely to libertarians across the country who feel they have a vested interest in keeping him in Washington.

rational ranting

by more rational Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003 at 12:32 PM

I'm chuckling here. "They talk Liberty but vote Authority." So true.

It's like all these "Free Market" advocates; it's just propaganda. They want to free up ownership of natural resources abroad, so American and European companies can buy them up. Sell them cheap food, to destroy the local agricultural economy, force the farmers to the cities to find jobs, drive wages way down, and open maquiladoras. That Southern labor, dammit, it's almost FREE. Reminds me of Dixie.

Say one thing, do another. Usually, that's called lying.

"Fair and Balanced." My ass. What a boatload of liars. Go back to Australia, Rupert.

Ever notice how Libertarians never talk about insurance companies? That's because insurance companies are a privatized form of mutual-aid welfare. It's the Libertarian, free-market, social safety net. They're afraid of the ugly truth: insurance companies are operated like Las Vegas bookmakers. You couldn't ask for anything more reminiscent of Canadian health care than an HMO, except the HMO costs a little less and is more likely to get you killed.

What's up with the Libertarians and the flag. You'd think anti-imperialist, anti-nationalist, patriotic people wouldn't revere a symbol of war, and the focal point of a plegde of unity, but there it is, on almost every Libertarian website. They should advocate for saluting the Constitution. Maybe they never really thought of that.

I pledge allegiance to the Constitution,

of the United States of America,

and to the People, whom it protects,

with liberty, and justice, for all.

We could start carrying a copy of the Constitution around, like they do in Venezuela.

I have been keeping a big secret about Anarchists. A disproportionate number of them own or have owned small businesses. I don't mean the "anarcho-capitalists". I am talking about the "burn the rich, smash the state, bad cop no donut, down with empires, dance in the revolution, reclaim the streets" anarchists. They hate working for bosses.

Small Business is a big lie too. There are only a few different kinds of small business. One kind sells stuff made by big businesses. One kind sells labor to big businesses. One kind sells mainly to the government. One kind mainly works for the government. Those four make up the bulk of "small business." What you always see in the commercials and hear about in the political speeches is the small business that operates apart from big business or government. The cookie shop. The little store. The non-chain restaurant. The barber shop. They are fantasies; they are propaganda for big business. Most small businesses (in America) are dependent on big business and big government.

Oh, and notice how, in those bank commercials, most of the small business operators are white, or maybe black, but not ghetto black? Oprah Black. What a joke! The only place I ever see numerous small businesses is in ethnic or black neighborhoods. Kids there grow up wishing for a Starbucks, Panda Express, or Gap to open up. The chains just stay away. Thus, small business.

Did you know that every soldier, as well as anyone who works for defense, is an ally of big government and waste. Why don't the Libertarians bring this up more? Every bullet that was shot in Iraq comes from tax dollars. The WMDs we were looking for were also paid for by tax dollars. The technology of nuclear weapons -- tax dollars. When the ideas are stolen by North Korea for their nuke program? Tax dollars! Now, since the only other country really doing major weapons research is China (our new Free Trade partner!) the world is basically being blown to bits by American Tax Dollars. (And also by Free Trade revenues that go to China.)

Lucky for GIs that they are in such a low tax bracket. It would suck to pay taxes for a war that you're fighting, AND get screwed out of benefits you thought you were earning.
