Opposition to Government and Climate, is there a link?

by Dave Sanchez Monday, Dec. 08, 2003 at 6:57 AM

Is there a link between the level of discontent with the "Government" and the climate? I think there may be.

Some background, I am a courier for a well known international shipping agency and as such I have had the pleasure of visiting many countries. Over the years I have found that there seems to be more civil unrest and discontentment in countries that have a warmer climate. Central America is an obvious example, but my travels take me all over the world. I have noticed that even in Europe, the people in the Scandanavian countries are much less "anarchist" than their close relatives in say Greece or Italy.

The warmer the average climate the more radical people become.

Is it the heat that induces our primordial anarchistic tendencies or is it the fact that when the weather is kind and gentle and of not a threat to life then man must find something else to fight?

In hostile climates then I have found my fellow humans to be more united. We have a common enemy to battle against, Much like the pioneers who traveled to California. Staying alive against the elements distracted peoples attention from who was President at the time and who goverened who.

So, in summing up. Those who have an easy life are, in my opinion, more likely to rise up against the "Government" that enables them to live in a safe and secure environment.

The people who rely on a stable infrastructure and government to provide and maintain and organise that structure against adverse climatic conditions are less likely to be "anarchistic"

As an example, in the USA in December anarchists are still active in California, In the MidWest they quit about the 15th November and on the East Coast, they quit today!!! (6th Dec)

Anarchists don't like nasty weather!!!!!

The Occupation Continues!

Come and join us for the continuing occupation of Harvard Square by the DisOrganized Resistance this Saturday from 12:00 Noon until 8:00 PM. We will be there no matter what the weather is like. People come and go so if you show up and you're alone, just do your own protest. The bulk of the disorganized rebels seem to show up between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. This is an open protest.

"We will be there no matter what the weather is like."

Now remember that phrase...... then read this.

Looking for reports on today's occupation.

Due to the weather and my travel plans, I was unable to both go to Harvard Square and travel. I suspect that others did not attend the occupation as well. Boston has been hit by a strong storm and driving is difficult. If anyone did attend the occupation, please send me a report if you'd like it published here:

Looks like my theory is correct, anarchists don't anarchy well when the weather is bad!
