An ignore feature? Ridiculous. Is this how you get around having to allow "open publishing"?
hahaha.jpg, image/jpeg, 800x600
I also like the way they slander us:
"The following users are the most ignored on this site."
How can that be true? This ignore feature was just set up yesterday!
"It's likely they are being ignored because they post offensive material to the site."
Liars. This ignore feature was set up simply because you lame leftists can't stomache the truth! I we deliver it to you in heavy daily doses.
"It's also possible that they post controversial opinions."
No kidding. On IMC, claiming that "the sky is blue" is considered controversial!
"You can add these users to your list by checking off their names, and submitting this form."

How paranoid are you people to having desenting viewpoints?
Sad.
And you think you can put together movements that will sweep the planet. You do realize that outside cyberspace these things become much more difficult, don't you? Having to put up with comments here is the easy part.

This is not about free speech and it is not about dissent. These individuals are engaged in a deliberate online campaign to shut down LA IndyMedia and other websites (including my own). They are using our resources to wage war against us. It's better to ignore them. LA IndyMedia has provided a good mechanism to do so.
Thanks!

This is the last desperate gasp of a dying movement. Glad to see they've had to go to these extremes.
Sieg Heil!! to all the volunteers at the LA-IMC collective. You have implemented the final solution well. Your rewards await.

This is great.
Now this website can engage in reasonable comments and the weasels can rant amoung themselves. This is better than my
keyword exclusion idea,
Thanks IMC LA.

That's never happened in the history of the world with left-wingers and anarchists before. No way it's going to start now.

Now perhaps we can begin a talk of a true critique of capitalism...without the the quips of the mindless.
Good work LA-IMC!

Now we can paint our own fantasies and pat each other on the back regarding our own delusional paranoias without being told just how stupid we are. I get enough of that from my neighbors.

This is a feature that's common in discussion board software.
For example, the JREF, Bad Astronomy and Skeptic Friends Network boards, each of which is run by a different software package, all include this feature., and it does come in handy at times. Discussion boards do tend to attract all the different species of troll and flame warrior there are.
The peculiar thing about applying this to the IMC model is that in order to personalize an ignore list (and provide other common features such as personal messaging and buddy lists), you have to have a registered membership structure. How that's going to fit into the Indymedia culture is anybody's guess. It'll be interesting to explore it, though.
Message board packages also often include another feature which the LA collective might want to implement, since the next escalation of the hatefreaks' war on this site is easily predictable as a repetition of behavior exhibited on other IMCs.
It's called "flood control". It imposes a timed refractory period after a post is made before the same poster can post again.
That and the detection and rejection of duplicate posts (which I've seen on other IMCs) should help to keep the newswire undisrupted by dinks who have nothing better to do than to use a computer as an outlet for their irrational rage.

BA, Fresca, nonanarchist, and all of those who have been singled out, including myself...
I would like to suggest that we all begin posting our comments under the following monkikers:
Sheepdog
Diogenes
KPC
Adrian more
New X
or whichever you so feel inclined to post under.
I really could not care less about my moniker getting ignored. I post routinely under the same moniker as a convenience to those that disagree with me, so they know where the message is coming from.
Now, I say "Fuck 'em". From now on, you'll have to read my crap and not know who it is saying it.
If you ban my IP, I'll use proxies. You can't stop us.
The moniker isn't important. I can change it like the wind.
Screw you leftist scum. You wanna do battle then I say "Game On!!!!!!!!"

A victory for our side!! We've made them change their MO.
If what we are saying is so easily swept away and dealt with, if what we are saying was so ridiculous it was without a doubt untrue, there would be no need for this, it would have been obvious to everyone. Problem was, what we are saying IS the truth, and it's shooting holes in their dreams. And we all know in 'paranoid delusional land' you can't have shattered dreams, therefore, LA-IMC implements what you have today.
As someone has already said, it's one thing in a controlled environment, it's a whole other matter in the real world. Dealing with us in cyberspace is the easy part. And just look at how you can't even handle that.
Losers.

...it's YOUR side who cannot tolerate dissention, who are not interested in ANY form of debate, who continually insist all who disagree are one person paid by the government, and who is afraid the drivel so earnestly spoken as "truth" will wither upon exposure to the light of day.
If you will recall, YOUR side set up the ignore list and has tried banning those who do not buy into your particular line of "truth".
Now, you tell me...who can't handle the truth?
