Humanism and freethought at CSULA

by Humanist Association at CSULA Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003 at 7:05 PM

Lois Lyons will talk about rationality vs. superstition.

On Tuesday, October 28, the Humanist Association at Cal State Los Angeles will present Lois Lyons, Vice-President of the American Humanist Association and Co-President of the Humanist Association of Los Angeles, who will present a talk on "Developing Your Mind With Freethought."

Lyons, a writer and editor from a Catholic background who is now an atheist, believes that freethought opens one's mind to creative, rational thinking, while belief in the supernatural, including God, lessens one's development as a rational thinker.

Following an introduction by Reverend Paul Sawyer of Throop Memorial Church, Lyons will speak for half an hour followed by a half-hour question and answer period and then a one-hour reception with food and drink (non-alcoholic). This event is free and open to the public.

6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Los Angeles Room A on the third floor of the University-Student Union, CSULA. Contact: Ron Spriestersbach, (323) 876-1767, rspries@mindspring.com
