Strike Concern = WASTED FOOD!!!

by Merry Hatebear Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at 8:19 PM

So much food is being thrown out for no good reason!

I've been very angry since the beginning of this strike. Not just because I feel the workers have been done wrong, but because SO much food is being WASTED! I've said since the first week that the stores should give their food to the homeless since it's just going to go bad.

I was glad to see that the channel 9 news brought this up today. They interviewed a man who works next door to an Albertsons store. He said that a big garbage truck has been coming in just to pick up food to throw out and it's been that was since the 2nd day of the strike.

That is insane! It's bad enough that these big corporations want to screw their workers over and this just shows them as being even WORSE.

There is NO reason for them NOT to give the food away. It's just them being GREEDY. The food is bruised or about to spoil so it won't make them any profit anyway and they choose to not give it to people who are starving and really need it! That is TERRIBLE!!!

I realize that's they way it's been even BEFORE this strike but with the excessive amounts of food being wasted now it's just too much!

Please contact the grocery stores and let them know how you feel about this. Tell them that they should give this food to the people who really need it instead of throwing it out.

Unions hurt the poor

by Roger Kaputnik Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at 10:52 PM

This is another example of the unions hurting the poor. In grocery strikes all over the country, nearby food pantries are being depleted because of the unions. The strike hits disadvantaged people (those who go to the pantries) the hardest. The union workers have plenty of spare time and energy to take food from the grocer to the pantry. The grocer could easily set the food outside for the union workers to take to the pantry. Of course no union worker would move food to a pantry unless they got paid 0 an hour to do it. I blame the unions for this the most, and the grocery owners for committing the sin of wasting food.

Block Headed Workers!

by Wobblie Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003 at 1:01 AM

Idiot Kaputnik sez that "unions hurt the workers."

Jeez... Kaputnik feeds on the bosses lies and doesn't know how to defend his own interests. The working men and women of the U.S. fought tooth and nail for union representation in order to STOP the rapacious exploitation of the bosses.

How do you think workers managed to get the eight hour day, paid sick leave, medical plans, paid vacations.... AN END TO CHILD LABOR?

Do you think the fat cat bosses just gave those things to workers? WORKERS WON THOSE RIGHTS THROUGH UNION ORGANIZING!!!!!

The bosses will turn the workers into SLAVES if the workers don't fight back by organizing unions and demanding a better life.

Workers who don't understand this are ALREADY SLAVES. Don't listen to shuffling slaves with hat in hand begging the rich man for crumbs.

UNIONIZE! DEMAND YOUR RIGHTS!
