Robocops patrol deserted, quiet streets. Young people walking to school are tense--they never know if they might be arrested for whistling, shouting, or talking to each other. Houses and apartments may be raided at any time, and unauthorized people arrested for being there. No one is hanging out. This is not U.S.-occupied Iraq. This is LAPD-occupied Watts. This is the reality Chief Bratton, Mayor Hahn, and the city authorities are bringing down on Nickerson Gardens.
Watts: Under the Gun
How the so-called war-on-gangs is stripping the rights of a whole community
Revolutionary Worker #1217, October 26, 2003, posted at http://rwor.org
We received the following from the L.A. branch of the RCP,USA.
Nickerson Gardens is the largest public housing project in Los Angeles, and the poorest. It is home to thousands of Black and Latino proletarians, one of those areas described in the RCP's Draft Programme where people are:
"...locked down together, living in a `community within a community.' Many are forced to move between dead-end jobs, hustles, and semi-legal activities, often ending up in prison. Many are youth, filled with daring and defiance and a nothing-to-lose spirit. The bourgeoisie fears these proletarians as a powderkeg of social dynamite, and it does everything to keep this section living under the gun and suppressed."
Out of the unbroken spirit of Watts there is growing a movement of people from the bottom who resist "the way things are" and the way their oppressors say things will always be. Who lift their sights to the goal of revolution, and fight to bring into being a different future and a better world. People have come together in many ways--to stand against police brutality, to fight one-strike evictions, to uphold and celebrate the '92 L.A. Rebellion, to fight for new standards based on the principle of "Serve the People."
In the pattern of gang territories that covers Los Angeles, Nickerson Gardens is claimed by the Bounty Hunter Bloods. On October 1 Judge Dzintra Janavs of the Los Angeles Superior Court granted a preliminary injunction against the Bounty Hunters in Watts. This kind of injunction, called a civil gang injunction, is a court order that targets certain people and strips them of their constitutional right to freedom of association and bans other specified activities within a certain area. The preliminary injunction covers the half-mile-square area of Nickerson Gardens and its surrounding streets.
This is a very serious attack on the people. The injunction gives the police a free hand to arrest any two people for just being together . It outlaws normal daily activities like kicking it on the porch, hanging out in the parking lot, or playing cards with friends. It gives the police a green light to search people's homes and apartments and arrest anyone not on the home's lease who doesn't have written permission to be there. It is an attempt to turn the community into a virtual prison, with the police enforcing a legal isolation of the people.
A civil gang injunction makes it much easier for the police to imprison people. A person arrested for violating an injunction may be charged with either civil or criminal contempt of court, at the discretion of the authorities. Civil contempt is punishable by up to five days in jail or other penalties--like stricter terms of the injunction. Criminal contempt is a misdemeanor that carries up to six months in jail.
Gang injunctions bar people from associating with each other and also list specific banned activities, like having a pager or a cell phone. If the cops find someone who is named in an injunction with another banned person, or carrying a pager, that's all they need to take them in. Such an arrest can send someone on parole or probation back to prison for years. And as long as an injunction is in force, people can be picked up again and again for violating it.
Injunctions were widely used against gangs in L.A. in the '90s. One of the most notorious was brought against 60 alleged members of 18th Street in Pico Union, the area policed by Rampart and the Rampart CRASH anti-gang unit. At the hearing where this injunction was granted, the star witness was Rafael Perez. Perez told the story of how Javier Ovando had tried to kill him and his partner, as an example of how gang members are supposedly inhuman monsters who should not be entitled to constitutional rights. Later, a whole Rampart scandal broke out, and it came to light that Perez and his partner had shot and nearly killed a handcuffed, unarmed Ovando in cold blood and then planted a gun on him! After the crimes, cover-ups and frame-ups of the Rampart CRASH unit and other Rampart officers were exposed, the police were put on the defensive. The authorities couldn't justify giving cops even more arbitrary power to send youth to jail on their word alone, and injunctions went out of style as a police tactic.
But since William Bratton became chief of the LAPD in 2002, the "war on gangs" has been back with a vengeance. From the time he took office Bratton has linked the "war on gangs" to the "war on terrorism," describing gang members as "homeland terrorists" who are "a threat to national security."
In relation to the "war on terrorism" and the accompanying agenda of domestic repression, the Chairman of the RCP, Bob Avakian, has pointed out how since 9/11, the imperialists have seized on September 11 to push this full throttle, to clamp down on any forces or sections of society they think might already be in opposition and to prepare the basis to clamp down much more forcefully and broadly on society as a whole and to create a whole repressive and intimidating atmosphere where even to raise questions or dissent has been called traitorous or "giving aid and comfort" to the terrorists.
Looking ahead, the imperialists see the potential for unrest and resistance from the people on the bottom of society. L.A. is not only a key financial, political, and cultural cornerstone of the U.S. empire but it's also home to millions of proletarians who have no interest in that empire. The rulers of the U.S. remember the fires of their second-largest city burning and the inspiration and hope that the L.A. Rebellion brought to people all over this country and all over the world. They don't want anything like this to happen again.
Bratton was chosen and brought to L.A. to develop and implement methods of repression that the people in power hope will be more effective than the methods the LAPD is famous for. In the 1980s, the LAPD brutalized and antagonized the entire population of South Central. Bratton has vowed to "take back the streets," but he says he doesn't want to go into South L.A. like an "occupying army." Instead, Bratton wants to carry out "surgical strikes" against gangs and "win over the community" to support this in the name of stopping crime and stopping the killing.
Bratton is targeting with the "war on gangs" the kind of youth who were the driving force in the L.A. Rebellion. His campaign to "take back the streets" is a pre-emptive strike to gain control of L.A.'s poverty-stricken proletarian communities before the "powderkeg of social dynamite" can explode again. This is like waging counter-insurgency without the insurgency, bringing the clampdown before the rebellion.
The injunction against the Bounty Hunters in Nickerson Gardens is part of this overall plan. It's a leap in bringing down the hammer of repression. It's much more severe than previous injunctions, because it's aimed at the whole community. As D.A. Steve Cooley explains, "In prior lawsuits, the court has been asked to enjoin named members of a gang from various activities. In this lawsuit, although 16 gang members are named as targets, the gang itself was sued..." The 1997 injunction against 18th Street in Pico Union named 60 alleged gang members as defendants. This injunction is brought against "Bounty Hunters.... Does 1 through 200, inclusive." It's up to the cops to identify people as members of the Bounty Hunters--they have a free hand to name anyone as one of the "200 John Does."
There's more. In addition to the "200 John Does" the injunction also targets " all persons acting under, in concert with, for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with them or any of them." This potentially includes mothers, friends, family members...even anyone who comes to someone's door, or hands them a leaflet, could be acting "in association with" an alleged gang member. Clearly the "200 John Does," plus anyone acting "in concert with or for the benefit of any of them," can grow to thousands, potentially including anyone and everyone in the area.
Under the heading of "Do Not Associate" the injunction bans any of the 200 John Does and anyone acting "in concert with...them" from " standing, sitting, walking, driving, gathering or appearing anywhere in public view, in a public place or in any place accessible to the public, with any other known BH gang member. " Again, this allows the cops to arrest anyone they say is a gang member or "acting in concert with" a gang member, for being with anyone else who they say is a gang member or "acting in concert with" a gang member. In other words, any two people can be arrested. The only places people are allowed to be publicly together are in school and church.
Besides "associating," the proposed injunction also bars possessing or being around guns or drugs, intimidating or threatening people, acting as a lookout, obstructing traffic, blocking parking, drinking in public, having a magic marker or a paint can, loitering, gambling, and trespassing.
In reality, many people have extended family members who are not on the lease living with them. That's what the injunction calls "trespassing." Many people in the projects are unemployed and "loiter" in their own neighborhood because they have nothing else to do. Playing cards or dominoes with friends is "gambling." The proposed injunction criminalizes normal things that people do every day. Everything could be illegal: youth kicking it on the front porch, mothers talking to their sons, childhood friends barbecuing or drinking a beer together, just walking to the store. Just living in the projects violates the injunction!
Under the one-strike law, families can be evicted if a family member or a visitor is arrested or accused of a crime. At least one family has already been evicted because their son was arrested and ac- cused of being a gang member. Many more families could face one-strike evictions under the injunction.
Stripping a whole community of the legal right to associate, giving the police arbitrary power to decide who may and may not talk together, is unprecedented. It takes you back to slave quarters in the South...or into a future of Watts Supermax.
Everybody's Talking About Crime, Crime, Crime....Tell me, who are the criminals??? --Peter Tosh
In papers filed with the court, the City Attorney's office says that the injunction will create a "Safety Zone." They argue that Nickerson Gardens is an "economically depressed area," where people "suffer fear, futility and despair because they can't break the Bounty Hunters stranglehold on their neighborhood." The authorities say they are coming in to free people from this stranglehold. And they offer a deal--cooperation for safety. The commander of South Bureau described Bratton's overall approach a little more honestly: "The same old stuff with a different twist," he said.
Let's look at how they're turning reality upside-down.
Where does crime come from? Why does California build more prisons than schools?
A recent report by the U.S. Justice Department says that one third of Black men born after 2001 will end up in prison. These are people who haven't committed any crimes, but the system is already saying they will end up in prison. Why? According to this report Black men had 32.2 percent chance of going to prison in 2001 compared to 5.9 percent of whites. Why?
For 30 years jobs have been taken out of communities like Watts. The jobs that were available years ago for unskilled youth in the inner cities have been moved or eliminated. When the class of people who run things look at their economy and see where they have to go with it, they make the cold-blooded calculation that they have no real employable use for inner-city youth. One economist put it this way: "crime is a rational choice" for many of the youth. In other words, he says it makes "common sense" for this section of people to "choose" crime to support themselves and try to get ahead because the system has no other use for them.
The capitalist system brings people together--and pits them against each other. It pits Black against Black, and Black people against Latinos. Nickerson Gardens, like other communities, brings together immigrants from Mexico, forced to leave their homes to survive, and Black proletarians. The immigrants work in the garment sweatshops and small factories of L.A. The Black proletarians have a higher unemployment rate. Many of them work as teacher's aides, security guards, or other jobs right at the poverty line--if they can find work at all. Employed or unemployed, their household income is about the same. All of them, Blacks and Latinos, live on the edge. At the end of the month families have to choose between diapers or milk, food or rent, light bill or phone bill. How they ended up side by side in the projects in Watts, Black and Latino, is hidden from them. What they have in common is kept hidden from them.
The youth growing up in these families are the ones the system has no use for. They go to schools with no books. They don't get trained in computers, or the high-tech skills of today's economy, or even learn to read and write! They learn to get searched. For many of them there are no jobs even if they graduate.
As a flyer from young revolutionaries in Nickerson Gardens put it:
"In a million ways this system tells people to do whatever you have to do to get ahead. Hell, everybody around the world knows the motto of the USA is `look out for number one.' They just showed their dog-eat-dog nature in Iraq--bombing and murdering innocent people so the U.S. can try to control the region through the oil flow. More money, more power, smash anything in the way. And that's what they have taught the youth who have no choices and no future: struggle your whole life just to end up with nothing or try to be a big dog, overpower the little dogs, take advantage of people who might seem weaker, get what you can and look out for yourself. So who's really to blame? And who's really the criminal? The kid who sees no future and gets caught up in robbing people and selling drugs? Or the system that gives these kids no other choice??"
When our people rob each other or our young people shoot each other it hurts us and makes us angry. People say there's too much jacking and killing going on. There is. The authorities have one answer and one solution: prison. They blame the youth. But the capitalist system, not the youth, is the fundamental cause of the crimes people commit against each other. The youth didn't take the jobs out of the communities or cut every social service people need to live. They didn't create the drug business that the police, international capitalists, and the CIA have been involved in for years. The youth were born into this world, they didn't make it. The capitalist system causes crime. To end crime the proletariat has to overthrow this system and organize society in a new way to meet the needs of the people.
As part of getting ready for that TIME it's possible and necessary to bring something much better and higher into being. New revolutionary relations amongst the people. We can unite instead of being pitted against each other. Help each other and share, instead of jacking or being jacked. We can find collective ways to solve our problems, and built relationships based on `Serve the People,' instead of the dog-eat-dog outlook of this system. We can strengthen our ability to look out for each other at the end of the month when people run out of diapers, milk and food. We can build our strength and unity by fighting for our common interests. This is a dream worth working and fighting for!
Our Oppressors Are Not Our Protectors
The pain people feel at seeing the youth kill each other runs deep. But the cops, the District and City Attorney and the city council have no right to speak on this. They cannot bring a solution to it.
These are the authorities who refused to prosecute more than 70 cops at Rampart implicated in cold- blooded murders, assaults, robberies, framing people and lying. Who allowed cops to call the INS on immigrants who stood up to them. These are the authorities who decided that the murder of a tiny homeless woman, Margaret Mitchell, for holding a screwdriver was justifiable homicide.
These are the cops who put guns to kids' heads at Markham Middle School next to the projects. These are the cops who shot Chubb Dotson through the head and then left his body in the street in Nickerson Gardens for hours while they stood around drinking coffee and laughing.
These are the cops who attacked celebrations of the gang truce in 1992, who routinely drop kids off in rival neighborhoods, and for years have made use of gangs to control the youth.
If Bratton can lure people into going along with the injunction and becoming partners with the police, how will the people stand up for their own interests against the system? The injunction will be used first to go after some of the alleged gang members the cops have targeted. Then it will be used against the revolutionaries. Then they will be free to go after everyone else.
Revolution Is the Hope of the Hopeless
What is the way out of this madness?
Flyers and posters have appeared in Watts, calling on people to fight the injunction. As one activist put it, "We need to take matters into our own hands to resist this injunction! We need our youth out there, taking a bold stand for the people, defying the clampdown. We need to build unity between Blacks and Latinos, and bring the experience of both into the fight. We need to take the sleep out of our eyes and not allow ourselves to be tricked and played by Bratton, the LAPD, and the politicians talking about a `Safety Zone.'
"We need to stop doing the work of the system by jacking and killing each other.
"Everyone who hates the dog-eat-dog trap that the system puts us in--and wants a different future for the youth and the people--has to step out to build the resistance and the revolutionary movement. We have a better world to fight for."

All the stupid Marxist jargon has got to go. In essence what we have here is a community that does not value education. Perhaps this is because of repression, but I must add, the Jewish people were interned into very similar situations. Yet each and every time they came out of it more educated and wealthier. Residents of Watts need to join together, so that the smartest among them help the lowliest. You cannot tell me everyone in Watts is a gang member. In fact I would venture to say many families wish these gangs would have been stopped before their son or daughter, potential doctor or lawyer, was shot in cold blood. You cannot say that a person in Watts is stuck in Watts. To say so would be to imply that they had no free will. One who is "stuck in Watts" should know that he is empowered. Hell, I have seen people walk by foot across America taking donations and starting new lives other places. I have also read Kaffir Boy, where a young black man in poor apartheid South Africa was bolstered by his mother to study, and not only became a famous writer, but a tennis pro and friend of Arthur Ash. We need to encourage the people of Watts to rise up against their own poverty. Because collectively they have enough wits about them to spread some knowledge. The cops can take your body, but they cannot take your mind and soul. I found that out in Jail doing yoga on the tables. This is much more than opression, it is a battle of collective wits. I believe the people of Watts have no time to waste, literally outsmarting the police. We have the best resource of all, ingenuity. What we need to do is stop telling these kids that they are the underdog, and start explaining that they have the mindpower. Eco jobs, restructuring, and so much more need to be done and had in this community. True, Bratton is a sadist at best. But to fight a symbolic Satan, don't you have to be a Symbolic Angel? I believe this community can overcome opression, by ignoring the opressor and setting themselves towards breaking the chains of poverty with collective help. Not mandated by the state, for that would be phony, but given, out of the love for man that these people surely must have. Once they are empowered, with knowledge, finance and spirit, they will prosper. You cannot say all the jobs left. You must say, we haven't created jobs yet, because you are smart enough to start businesses that serve and help your community. With enough hard work, anyone can get by. Most of these people don't even have to pay rent. I work two jobs, and I pay mine, I live in a suburban barrio with gangs, but I give the kids books, and teach them to read, and write grants in my spare time. What are you doing to help Watts except telling us cops suck, duh, they suck everywhere where they can take a fine, suck like hoovers, not new to Africans, Asians, and even poor whites. The way out is self empowerment through self teaching and community caring. But mandating something like that would make it bland and destroy creativity like Mao, it has to come from within.

I will pull all my jack booted storm troopers currently oppressing the masses in the beautiful areas of South Central, and let the people victimized by gangs and thugs call on their Socialist brothers for help. Of course, they are the same gang members and thugs, but you can't have it both ways, now can you?

I talk here like I've been to Watts.... Truth is --I'm pretty ignorant about life in Watts, or in south central los angeles as we.. But it really boosts my ego to act as if i can lump together ALL areas of poverty and crime and act as if i am an authoritarian on the matter. But it just proves that i like to run my mouth.....

Speaking of points, in your rush to be an imbecile, you missed mine.

These are the arguments people try to use to justify their claims that all one needs to do is to move away.....its easy..... He can do it , so EVERYONE can do it. Those of you familiar to Watts or the surrounding communities know what the writer is talking about.
This "nonanarchist" yoyo from South carolina is typical of the right wing. Never lived in a drug infested warzone, but if i did --it would be EASY to leave!!! I read similar nonsense coming from leftists organizations when they write about Oakland, CA. For those not in the know, Oakland shares some similarities with Watts, Compton and South Central L.A. in general. I've lived in a "low-income" part of Oakland for over ten years and grew up in Echo Park. I am not some middle-class kid who knows jack about the hood.
However, I am astonished by the naive views of leftists concerning what "low-income" folks want. I read the RCP and others telling us that we want the cops out of our communities. The truth is the opposite. We want more police presence, not less. Same goes with the forfeiture laws.
In the case of Oakland, the police have been seizing the cars of drug dealers (and buyers) and johns who come into the hood to buy crack and pick up hookers. Most of my neighbors applauded their efforts. It's about f-ing time!
Why is it that open-air drug dealing and ho's are not cool in the suburbs but it is considered o.k. for them to work like that in the hood? We are sick and tired of it. So, when the cops came in and started cleaning things up, they had the community's support. We want a safe environment for ourselves and our kids.
As far as the comment about education I could not agree more. Most of the parents in my neighborhood do think education is important but there are loads of young parents who think it is more important for their kids to wear the right gear than to take them to a museum or even read to them! Many of these parents have adopted a thug mentality where learning is preceived as being "weak" or worst of all "white"!
It's sad to see and experience first-hand. Until these parents teach their kids the value of education, the kids will continue to make bad deicisions, engage in violent behavior, and end up in prison.

It's funny that you say that...
I am black, and I went to private schools all my life, went to Prep School at one of the top ten schools in the country, and am currently enrolled at college.
You would not believe how many black people view me as some sort of "Uncle Tom" because I speak proper english, or SIMPLY because of the fact I wear Vans sometime ! I told a black girl at the supermarket the other day that I wasn't from Florida originally, she said "I know, black people don't wear clothes like that here, you need to go to the mall and get some hip-hop gear-only white boys wear that"-and she said it nastily.
Too many black Americans complain about education, housing, schools, etc., but when it comes down to it, yes, a lot of African-American parents, especially the younger ones, don't give a shit about education, the arts, finance, or politics. They'd rather make sure their child had the newest "Southpole" Jeans.
Which is why I sometimes find it hard to sympathize with people-my own friends-who live in urban areas. Some of the most close-minded african Americans are nastier than the worst racists-trust me.

Thanks for what you wrote.
I can understand a particlar people wanting to hang on to its culture, etc... but to try and indoctrinate that culture into everyday life just doesn't work. Our country has developed its own lauguage and mannerisms that are considered acceptable in society. I'd love to go to work unshaven, in blue jeans, a T-shirt, and flip-flops, but that does not project the image necessary in order to do the job I do. We may rant and rave that people should be judged by who they are and what they say rather than how they live or talk or dress, but we're only fooling ourselves. Throughout history and around the world, people have developed certain acceptable customs and mannerisms for particular occasions. I think its a good thing. It shows proper respect to your fellow man that you take the time to make yourself presentable and you speak and conduct yourself in a particular way.

I didn't grow up in a nice middle-upper class neighborhood at all. My dad went to jail for selling marijuana when I was 10, but after he was released 6 months later, he went back to school and got a degree.
I didn't live in Watts ever, but I did live in South Oak Cliff-one of the rougher parts of Dallas. When I went there, I endured seeing drug deals, shootings, etc., but my parents always kept me pointed in the right direction.
I am proof that even though you may grow up in a crime-infested low education area, with the right opportunities which ARE afforded to lower-income citizens, you can make good on a not-so-good upbringing. (I've received over 120,000 dollars in scholarship money in 5 years-prep school alone was 31,000 dollars a year at Governor Dummer Academy-a rival of Bush's adolescent prep school-Phillips Andover.(www.gda.org)

This is in protest towards the organization "citizens for police" who are constant "trolls" on this site. This organization is formed by ignorant racist white people in favor of jeremy morse. Jeremy morse is the "cowardly" officer from inglewood california who is on trial for the chickenshit beating of an innocent child last july 6th 2002. These images were captured by mitchell crooks who was present at a hotel nearby the gas station where, Coby chavis the father of 16 year old donovan jackson was parked pumping gas. Several LA county sheriff cars descended to a "parked car" and found a black man driving a "taurus" (found to be too good a car for a black man by racist police) with unregistered tags. As mitchell crooks found in his young life, Cops have a hatred towards black people and whites who think about living in a unified world. This is how they (cops and law enforcement) infiltrate our way of being. Anyone who has ever been in prison knows how the cops keep order because of the hate they spread. They could not maintain control of the prisons or society's without spreading the racism. This is the ONLY reason they remain in control and corrupt. So back to the incident. 16 year old special Ed student Donovan jackson purchases a bag of chips with the money left over by paying to fill his fathers tank. Meanwhile after drinking heinekens all 4th of july weekend, mitchell crooks is laying down in his hotel room. Donovan walks out of the small little convenience store to find his dad in a police car for unregistered tags on his car. All this time, a young man from New zealand is taking pics of the arrest from the balcony of the hotel. (this man was flown in by the jeremy morse defense to testify against Donovan jackson) After returning to his fathers car, a hothead pig asks donovan to get out the car and put his hands up. An innocent teen who goes to church and is respectful to all? Donovan was scared to death because he knew he did nothing wrong. But, when your black, pigs hate you regardless. This pig was threatened by donovans black skin. He ordered him to stand still and not move. Donovan then put his hands in his pocket. Having nothing to fear (why wouldn't he?) he reached for his pocket and thats when the inglewood PD showed up at the scene. 5 police cars total. For unregistered tags? Inglewood PD had been briefed earlier that a "GANG" was planning a hit on a cop. And sadaam had weapons of mass destruction too? This is the excuse by the department for their actions this day. Donovan is NO gang member. His father had plates on his car, I m sorry a sticker on his car that was expired. (prolly due to the outrageous cost of registering a car which the majority is fully aware of. No officers in inglewood were "HIT" on that day or since? So on this Holiday weekend, when amerikkka is celebrating it's independence from europe, A "terrorist" opens fire at the el al terminal at Los Angeles international airport (LAX) killing two people. He was shot and killed by airport security. The Homeland Security was on high alert since the terrorist attack on 912. Shouldn't we be more concerned about protecting the citizens from terrorists? An unregistered car is hardly a terrorist threat. All this time mitchell crooks is about to uncover a terrorist plot himself. Alot of different stories about what happened after donovan put his hands in his pocket have emerged. first, nobody found a gun or a weapon on donovan. That is fact. Donovan did nothing wrong. In fact, his father was detained over an unregistered tag. That is fact. Now if donovan jackson was going to put a hit on a cop, i am the fuckin pope. Donovan was "ATTACKED" by several officers and dragged by his "bling" (a necklace to the ignorant) across the ground by jeremy morse and bijan darvish. He was assaulted by carlos lopez (the sheriff sergeant on scene) as well as all the others. Donovan fearful For his life and knowing he was innocent, struggled to keep free from the Harassment of these pigs. He did nothing wrong. He was afraid of them. They were bigger and threatening HIM. Donovan was hit over the head with a flashlight and punched several times in the head. He was BEATEN by the LA sheriff and inglewood PD. All because his father did not fill some paperwork out at DMV. This entire time, the man from new zealand (is that fag country) was taking pics of the arrest. Yet he was nowhere to be found once mitchell crooks started shooting the incident. A woman was watching the whole scene and was screaming and yelling during the whole scene. Now this woman is the true hero. She had the presence to yell the keywords out. "Dont resist" & "Stop hurting him" & "help"! she is the true hero of the day! Those keywords gave me the knowledge that pigs were hurting yet another human being. She was also not asked to testify during the trial of jeremy morse? Why? Because the District Attorney is in bed with the Police (fags). They are working together on many issues. Thats why we need a separate police prosecutor to get these pigs when they are out of line. PIGS NEED TO POLICE THEMSELVES! We need alot of extra shit like a police prosecutor and a new justice department. "You are so out bush it's not even funny". You can see my statements on that @ http://homepage.mac.com/encyte/Personal22.html at the october 22 2003 protest against police brutality http://www.october22.org/index.php So as this woman was screaming I looked out my window and thought it was a fight at the hotel. When she said "RESIST" I knew it was my clue to grab my Sony digital8 camcorder from my backpack. The citizens for police org have stated "why do we pander to these lawless individuals?" I had been on a trip around the divided states of embarrassment. http://www.angelfire.com/hiphop/edog/lyrics/2.html or watch the flash movie here http://www.sundanceonlinefilmfestival.com/animation01_15.html I was traveling around the states to film a documentary about america and it's rave culture. I had no idea the project would turn into a political one. I raced out to see this woman in panic. She was keeping her kids inside the hotel room so they couldn't see the police terror going on across the street. I flipped open the view finder on my camera and started filming the incident. When I saw donovan laying there I just started to cringe. I thought "what could he have done to deserve that treatment?" I had no idea he was a child. I thought he was a 19 or 20 something. I was freaked out by the fact that if I was filming police doing wrong I would be targeted next. As I said on my Videotape. http://homepage.mac.com/encyte/iMovieTheater14.html I was told by the woman, you can hear on the tape, "they are not going to come after you". Huh I knew better! You can see the video for yourself unedited at the above link or at www.noreversal.com So, as I was filming this "terrorist attack" by police, I thought "they are going to arrest me and punish me for doing so". I was right. More on that later. I was shocked by the coward doing this in broad daylight! There were about 20 witnesses on scene and not one of them was asked to testify at jeremy Morse's first mistrial. The DA is in bed with pigs remember? So after I videotaped the incident I gave the tape to friends cause I knew the cops would confiscate the tape and that would be the end of that. I also separated the camera from myself and changed my clothes. I knew these foreign backpackers only a little but they knew what they had seen on the videotape was wrong. The pigs came into the hotel and asked alot of people "who was the one who videotaped the incident?" Nobody snitched. Even though 90% of them knew I was the one. I grabbed a heineken and went down by the pool where people are still enjoying their fourth of july weekend. I sure as fuck did! After 912, police were regarded as heroes and shit cause a couple of the died at the trade center. So I reminded the entire world how fucked up our police Still are. haha. I went to NBC 4 and showed them the tape. They were not interested. Because I had seen police brutality all the time in LA, I thought the media was not going to take on the situation. I went back to the hotel. Later that next day, I had an appointment to see a potential loft in downtown LA. I went to that and on the way back, I went to UPN and thought they would like a copy for the news. I was happy if they showed it. When they offered 150 dollars I was excited. The News director told me to keep the rights and sell it to as many news outlets as possible. Thats when the inglewood PD was informed. I sold this tape for 150 dollars to several local news outlets. Which is a rip-off considering that the guy who videotaped the rodney king video made 50,000 dollars initially. So to those who say I did it for money, "FUCK YOU" I did it cause it should be done. The world wind of media kept calling from all over the world and wanted the permission to show this video. IF YOU WANNA BLAME SOMEBODY, BLAME THE "RIGHT WING" MEDIA. NOT ME. lol. So as soon as the police did a search on me and my name they found a misdemeanor warrant for petty theft and Dui. What you do not know, is that the patriot act has been used so many times against people it was not designed to do. For instance, I was arrested in front of CNN for misdemeanor crimes out of placer county. I was staying in a hotel (leparc in west hollywood) when a DA (steve cooley) from LA tried to illegally supeona me on a radio show. He wanted the video. When I refused to give up my location to him he enacted the patriot act. Actually to be even more honest, FBI or "whoever" were parked outside my hotel room w/ headphones on, listening to me and a friend inside the hotel the night before. When I refused to accept this Illegal supeona to testify before the grand jury, I left the hotel for fear of what I saw the night before. I was appearing on BET w/ Ed Gordon That night (w/congresswoman maxine waters). Twice that night and in the morning, my friend was approached in the hotel, by plain clothes and actual officers demanding him to tell me where I was. How did they know where I was? They had to have illegally tapped the land line inside my hotel during the radio interview. I was not registered at the hotel? I then went to a different friends house in long beach when I noticed cops casing his apartment even before we got there! Tell me how they could know this? Later that night after going to a bar, two undercover cops sat next to me and my friend till we left. They left. I stayed at his house all night long and heard people outside his door all night. Then, the next morning I call my original friend on a cell phone and he is scared to death. I call from CNN inside the building on a land line. He had a cell phone. I told him to bring the tape to CNN and the camera because I was to go onto another BET show taping out of the CNN building. As soon as he showed up, I mean within seconds, I was standing outside smoking. He dropped off the tape and 7 or so plain clothes officers assaulted me and threw me in a unmarked suv w/ tinted windows. CNN later came out and Showed the world my arrest for misdemeanor crimes that WERE NOT IMPORTANT UNTILL Capturing police doing wrong. At least 5 DOCUMENTED times, I was let go cause the warrant was not that big a deal. Now the whole world knows. So many of these "PIG LOVERS & RACIST TERRORISTS" have pointed out that I stole VCRS from my mom and had a DUI. Why is that important? Because the LADA used this to arrest me. I refused to testify to the grand jury w/o a lawyer. These warrants were not a big deal until I came forward with the tape. That is FACT. I was stopped in sacramento (one county over from Placer county) Albakurkee NM and in New york and by LAPD in fall 2003 for jaywalking by ofc. v.perez. I was let go after being booked at the culver city police department. I have proof. He should be in jail according to DA steve cooleys explanation to the LA city council that it is illegal to let someone go with knowledge of a warrant. I was refused entry to canada because of the warrant and was let go? If this warrant for misdemeanor crimes was so awful then, why didn't they arrest me then? Cause I did not film police brutality till I returned to my home LA. The charges were so PETTY that my mother was upset about the focus being turned onto me and not the pig jeremy morse. I had pawned a VCR that was in my room at my moms house in 1999. The cops had found the pawn slips in my car and trumped the charges in order to secure giving me more time in placer county jail. See I was the victim of a police attack in placer county CA as a youth (16 too?) and they hated me for it. Since I was not at fault (and the officer) they had a deep-seeded hatred towards me. If I had a competent public pretender at the time I would have beat all the charges. I was duly convicted and plead guilty at the first court hearing. (never do that) My lawyers wanted to appeal the original plea to try it again cause the charges were so weak but that would take 6 months or more. I was sentenced to six months in jail for a 0.08% dui and a petty theft w/ prior. Even tho the LA county jail had a program were they were kicking out inmates w/ misdemeanor crimes, a private jet flew me to placer county jail the day after the LADA and sheriff assaulted me for videotaping their own "terrorists". I was beaten severely by LADA's and handcuffed for 24 hours str8. That is illegal. That is fact. I was refused a visit from my lawyers and kept in a cell handcuffed to the outside of the cell all night. I was hospitalized for my injuries by the LADA. I had to serve my six month sentence anyways. I was let go on Jan. 4 2003. I have no charges and no probation/fines/classes so that is good. It worked I am no criminal. I had been turning my life around since 1999. I appeared on the TV show 7th heaven 3 times and turned it around. (check out the episode when the oldest son left the show after getting hitched to a Jew.) Even though, the judge couzins wanted to give me 2 years for bringing attention to the most racist jail in amerikka. Placer county is so corrupt. http://homepage.mac.com/encyte/iMovieTheater15.html They have a 92 % white population and have the largest republican county in Califas. They were so pissed off to see the public focusing in me. Congresswoman maxine waters along with democrat candidate al sharpton called them and threatened them that if anything was to happen to me, they would be in serious trouble. So they put me on 23 hour lock-down for 6 months. They said they needed to protect me from White power inmates? These same white power inmates I got along with and were happy to see the pigs in trouble and sweat-in. So jeremy morse was put on trial at the end of july 2003 (a year after) and was found basically guilty 7 to 5. The jury was not even given a good case but LADA's max huntsman and mikey petterson blew the case on purpose to satisfy the public. The trial was held in a courthouse nowhere near the crime scene in inglewood. The DA called all the defenses witnesses (the cops) and not a single other witness involved. they used the tape but did not supply the jury with ALL THE FACTS. The other officer Bijan darvish who beat donovan jackson was let off because the current footage does not show him beating him. He was charged with filing a false police report. That child abuser jeremy morse goes back on trial in january 2004. The trial was to start oct 22 but was moved yet again. The media was hoping for a riot and thats the only reason why they even bought my tape in the first place. They were hoping for the bigger picture. They were disappointed that inglewood did not respond by burning their own businesses and homes. This is what the citizens for police (jeremy morse pig lovers) says is the reason for the retrial. "To award a community for not burning their homes down is crazy" is what they and jeremy morse attorney john barnett (defended the rodney king pigs) is saying? That is sooooo ignorant! Barnett argued that the one black man on the original jury resembled donovan too much to be included. What a racist! He thinks all blacks look alike? What a nazi! To think that a retrial is only important because of not burning a house down is so 20 century. You nazi fucks need to come to the realization that jeremy morse crossed the supposed line. He beat a handcuffed 16 year old defenseless child! He was not a danger to these pigs he was a 100 pound child. Jeremy morse is about 220#. WTF? You harping on me and my situation is so funny to me. I am going places and doing whatever the fuck I want. Don't be jealous cause in inglewood you will not get 5 white jurors who will refuse to convict jeremy morse cause of 912. Fuck You. You nazi racist people are so fuckin hilarious to defend such a coward! What's next Ok' in a priest to fuck little children? You fuckin nazi's are powerless http://homepage.mac.com/encyte/Personal22.html you have NO control. Jeremy morse is the one on trial not me. The LADA might be overmatched (on purpose) by barnett but. not Johnny cochran and milton grimes. Oh yeah jeremy can't afford barnett for that. His mother lori pettit of torrance had to sell her home in Seattle just to pay for her nazi sons mistakes. Boo fuckin hoo. Jeremy morse will be broke and will have to hide in his home forever. I on the other hand have a lawsuit against the LADA and the media that will set me up for life. I have no worries. I am not a criminal. I have turned the corner and jeremy morse is just beginning to have his life turned around. So to all those who support police no matter what (including the 5 old white jurors) who think that a cop can do no wrong, I say FUCK YOU. You mean shit to me. You ain't seen nothing yet pigs. Sincerely, Mitchell Crooks PS. Your assumption that donovan was a violent subject is based merely on your hatred towards blacks and young america. You do not know donovan jackson and you do not know what happened before I arrived (yet). You are truly ignorant and hate-mongers. People like you make me so happy I Came forward. The world laughs at you. I really could care less about you or your chickenshit army occupying OUR streets. http://www.stolenlives.org/ http://www.copwatch.com/ http://refuseandresist.org/ http://www.geocities.com/capa_dfp2001/ http://live.axisofjustice.sparkart.net/ www.noreversal.com FOR A GOOD LAUGH http://homepage.mac.com/encyte/Menu1.html ARTISTIC VERSION IN INGLEWOOD http://homepage.mac.com/encyte/iMovieTheater11.html MY WELCOMING BACK TO LA BY SOUTH CENTRAL http://homepage.mac.com/encyte/iMovieTheater9.html OCT 22 2003 MARCH AGAINST POLICE TERROR http://homepage.mac.com/encyte/Personal22.html THE ONION STATEMENTS http://la.indymedia.org/news/2002/07/18031.php "Still, some things counted more to Crooks than money. He told ABC he wouldn't give the network the videotape unless they put Bill Maher's recently canceled "Politically Incorrect" back on television, Hanna said.
