The live streaming conference was set up by Indymedia audio groups, one in Cancun, where protests against the WTO meeting had been taking place (http://cancun.mediosindependientes.org/feature/display/862/index.php) and the other on the island of Vis in the Croatian Mediterranean where a one-week open source/free software camp for NGOs had been set up. The streamers used 100% free software on a bootable GNU/Linux CD distribution called dyne:bolic, which is specifically designed for multimedia application. (See below for link.)
