Okay Chris ( I feel like I'm explaining things to my kid) C14 is a naturally occurring isotope of carbon with a given half life.

During the life of a animal it incorporates a percentage of this isotope into the tissues. Since the isotope has this constant decay rate, the
amount of this C14 still emitting is a time scale to the period when the tissue was still alive and ingesting the isotope.
Do you want to know what an isotope is??

I asked for an experimental protocol and an explanation of how the machine works. Not a junior high level explanation of what an isotope is.
