Dinosaurs in the Bible

by JBR Smallweed Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003 at 5:08 PM

Dinosaurs that have been carbon dated give an age of only a few thousand years.

Evolution is only a theory. The Bible is God's PROOF that the Earth was made by Him just over 6000 years ago.

Faith

"Carbon dating, see??

Why do you have so much faith in carbon dating technology? Do you really know enough chemistry and physics to absolutely know its strengths and limitations?

yes, I do.

by Sheepdog Friday, Oct. 17, 2003 at 4:53 PM

Plus chemistry, geology and a few other hard sciences.
What's your excuse?

by Chris Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 5:14 AM

Sheepdog,
Without referencing a source, give us a protocol for determining the age of a bone with carbon dating technology and describe how the device works.

That's right, I knew you couldn't.

by Sheepdog Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 5:45 AM

Okay Chris ( I feel like I'm explaining things to my kid) C14 is a naturally occurring isotope of carbon with a given half life.

During the life of a animal it incorporates a percentage of this isotope into the tissues. Since the isotope has this constant decay rate, the
amount of this C14 still emitting is a time scale to the period when the tissue was still alive and ingesting the isotope.
Do you want to know what an isotope is??

No kidding

by Chris Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 6:00 AM

I asked for an experimental protocol and an explanation of how the machine works. Not a junior high level explanation of what an isotope is.

oh, sorry

by Sheepdog Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 6:04 AM

I thought I was using terms you wold understand.
Apparently not.
You want to know about background radiation levels and controlled test environment protocols?

Spelling it out for you

by Chris Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 6:14 AM

I didn't realize my request was so cryptic.

Protocol is defined as "The plan for a course of medical treatment or for a scientific experiment."

No cheating. That's right. I knew you couldn't.

Oh-Kay

by Sheepdog Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 6:17 AM

I've gone down this path before.
Are you telling me that standard C14 dating protocols are wrong?
Quit squirming.

by Chris Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 6:42 AM

"Are you telling me that standard C14 dating protocols are wrong?"

Not at all. Just proving that your knowledge of carbon dating is based on faith -- with no depth to your understanding.

"Quit squirming."

Who's squirming?

I got faith

by Sheepdog Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 6:47 AM

I also know that you are attempting to quibble about the meaning of meaning.
Even geological evidence shows that dnosaurs were older than your
Christian record,
but

go for it, bible boy.

Bible boy?

by Chris Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 7:00 AM

I'm not a believer. Nor do I believe that dinosaurs walked with man. What gave you that idea?

I was just showing that faith is not limited to religion.

For the record, I'm a scientist (biologist).

by Sheepdog Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 7:06 AM

Okay Mr. Science.
Isn't there a process called peer review?
That seems a fair substitute for faith.

Be consistent

by Chris Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003 at 7:17 AM

Why would you support the overwhelming peer reviewed evidence for carbon dating when you don't support the overwhelming peer-reviewed evidence displaying the innocuousness of depleted uranium munitions?

'overwhelming peer-reviewed evidence' - of DU?
So now you are saying that peer reviewed studies of the effects of DU
are in agreement to it's less than harmful effects? Please.
Do me a favor.

Heresay

by Aletta Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003 at 1:34 PM

The Bible was written a full 200 years after Christ (if he even existed) died and is nothing more than heresay and folklore.

It is a silly book that can be read to support almost any position.
