Investigate Iraq WMD Disinformation

by Rosalio Munoz Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at 9:45 PM

Enclosed is a "Dear Colleague" letter Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA/Oakland) sent out this morning. The Republicans have been sitting on 2 bills about Iraq intelligence abuse one for an independent commission another for a select committee of the House.

> This is a "Dear Colleague" letter Rep Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) has

sent out for a new bill calling for Congress to address the issue of

the White House use of disinformation on Iraq weapons of mass

destruction. It will be introduced next Wednesday when the House is

back in session and be given an official number. As you can see there are 24 Cosponsors on the list, this afternoon Rep. Becerra also signed on. We need as many cosponsors as possible to force the Republicans to discuss the issue. Call your Congressperson right away and they can become original cosponsors of Barbara Lee's resolution on weapons of

mass destruction before it goes to print. The House switchboard toll

free number is 800-839-5276 . Rosalio Munoz

> Dear Colleague:

>

> As Congress prepares to vote on an additional billion in a

supplemental appropriation to cover some of the rising costs of the

ongoing guerrilla war in Iraq, Congress and the American people have

a right to understand the process by which this nation went to war.

>

>

>

> Administration officials told Congress, the American public, and

the international community that this country had to go to war

against Iraq because that country's weapons of mass destruction

program posed an imminent threat to this nation and our allies. Last

April, Congress passed a billion appropriation to fund such a

war. Now grave questions are being raised regarding the

Administration's use of intelligence information in making its

argument for war.

>

>

>

> These questions are critical to today's debates about the ongoing

war. As men and women in the armed forces continue to serve in

harm's way and as the American people are asked to pay another

installment on this war, and as Congress is asked to approve it, we

have the right to know: how was intelligence used or misused in the

process which led to this war?

>

>

>

> Please join us in supporting this resolution expressing the sense

of Congress that we should not adjourn until we establish a Select

Committee or independent commission to answer these questions. To

sign on, or for more information, please contact Shannon Smith at 225-

2661.
