ABC News reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger gave an interview in which he praised Adolf Hitler and expressed a desire to follow in the spellbinding dictator's footsteps . . .
Arnold Schwarzenegger's past is a problem. It turns out that he didn't just grope unwilling women, smoke hashish, and engage in group sex at the gym. ABC News now reports that when he was asked who his heroes were, in a 1975 interview, Schwarzenegger answered: "I admired Hitler, for instance, because he came from being a little man with almost no formal education, up to power. I admire him for being such a good public speaker and for what he did with it." Of course, what Hitler "did with it" was to destroy democracy in Germany, exterminate more than six million Jews, Gypsies, and homosexuals, and wage a war of brutal aggression against the civilized world . . . Schwarzenegger added that he longed for an experience of his own, "like Hitler in the Nuremberg stadium. And have all those people scream at you and just being total agreement whatever you say." Scwharzenegger got his Nuremberg-stadium wish at the San Diego Convention Center this morning. Was Schwarzenegger misquoted ? The New York Times reports this morning that the quotation about Hitler comes from verbatim transcripts of an interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger, included by George Butler in a 1975 book proposal. In that book proposal, Butler quotes Schwarzenegger speaking of Hitler: "I admire him for being such a good public speaker and for what he did with it." The New York Times adds: "But early this morning, Mr. Butler called back, saying he had driven back to his New Hampshire home and found another transcript of the interview, with different wording: 'I admire him for being such a good public speaker and for his way of getting to the people and so on. But I didn't admire him for what he did with it. It's very hard to say who I admire, who are my heroes.'" Butler apparently attributes the difference to trouble that he had understanding and transcribing Schwarzenegger's accent . . . On the other hand, Butler also reports that when he worked with Schwarzenegger in the 1970's, he deemed the man a "flagrant, outspoken admirer of Hitler." Butler witnessed Schwarzenegger's enthusiasm in playing "Nazi marching songs from long-playing records in his collection at home," for example, and reports that our next governor "frequently clicked his heels and pretended to be an S.S. officer." ...there's this: From http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3162746.stm: n a boost for Mr Schwarzenegger, a report in an Austrian Jewish magazine said that, as a young bodybuilder, he had helped break up a neo-Nazi demonstration in the Austrian city of Graz. "There was a clash and Arnold along with some bodybuilders chased the Nazis down Herrengasse Street," Alfred Gerstl, the father of one of Mr Schwarzenegger's friends, recalled in the interview published last month.

Jeez you guys kill me. You take the rod to Clinton for eight years and then start crying when it turns out Arnie is making Clinton look like a piker. Right Wingnut Whining. And once again...a ton of hypocrisy. But I guess that's what cheap labor conservatives consume for breakfast.

This info about Arnold has been out there for years. It's the timing of the re-release of the information that stinks to high-heaven. Davis is desperate. Will the citizens of California be stupid enough to fall for Davis' last minute attempt to save his own skin? They were stupid enough to elect him in the first place, so who can say. Tomorrow will tell.

A fine example of the type of people who have run California's budget into the ground.
