The World condemns Israeli racism...

by zionist oppression Saturday, Sep. 13, 2003 at 10:44 PM

ISRAEL IS DEMOCRATIC? FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION? THINK AGAIN.... JERUSALEM - Israeli leaders shrugged off condemnation of their decision to "remove" Yasser Arafat whenever they choose, saying Friday the Palestinian leader should have been ousted long ago and the world has no right to judge a nation facing constant suicide bombings.

Words of caution, regret and anger rolled in from country after country a day after Israel made the vaguely worded decision that it would act to remove Arafat.
The threat sparked pro-Arafat marches by thousands of supporters in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and drew opposition from
the European Union,
the United Nations
Arab countries,
as well as the United States.

"In the early hours of this morning the phones rang from all over the world," Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said. "They're asking us to do nothing against Yasser Arafat. Has the world turned on its head?"

Countries expressing concern ranged from Switzerland to Pakistan. Italy, Russia, Germany and Britain also voiced disapproval.

"We believe it would be a terrible mistake that would have serious consequences across the whole region," EU spokesman Diego Ojeda said.

Arafat emerged from his compound in Ramallah for a second straight night Friday and rallied supporters, saying: "To Jerusalem we are going as martyrs in the millions."
The crowd held photos of Arafat and chanted: "With our blood and souls we will redeem you." Arafat answered: "With our blood and souls, we will redeem you Palestine."

As the crowd left, a dozen Palestinians remained behind in the compound and set up tents, saying they would act as human shields if Israeli troops try to seize their leader.

Israel, however, pulled back from any immediate operation and on Friday abandoned lookout positions on top floors of two buildings overlooking Arafat's compound.

Secretary of State Colin Powell telephoned both Shalom and the Palestinian foreign minister to emphasize the United States' opposition to exiling Arafat. White House spokesman Scott McClellan said "it would not help matters; it would only serve to give him a broader stage."

The Palestinians urged the U.N. Security Council to demand that Israel stop the expulsion. The Council discussed a resolution late Friday and then adjourned until Monday, despite Palestinian pressure for a quick vote.

Israel's government says that as long as the 74-year-old Arafat continues to wield authority, peacemaking efforts will fail. Still, Israel made no move to oust him from Ramallah, and on Friday even abandoned lookout positions on top floors of two buildings overlooking his compound.

The Israeli threats only seemed to bolster Arafat, who has been trapped in his office for nearly two years by troops and threats that he might not be allowed back.

In Jerusalem, meanwhile, police stormed the city's most hotly disputed holy site Friday, firing tear gas and stun grenades to disperse Muslim worshippers who police said threw stones down at Jewish worshippers at the Western Wall. Some witnesses said they didn't see stones thrown. There were no injuries reported, and crowds quickly dispersed. Police blamed Arafat for the disturbance.

Israel's security Cabinet announced its decision in principle Thursday, two days after twin Palestinian suicide bombings killed 15 Israelis. In their statement, Israeli leaders declared Arafat "a complete obstacle" to peace and said "Israel will work to remove this obstacle in the manner, at the time, and in the ways that will be decided on separately."

That wording makes room for several options: deporting Arafat, capturing him or killing him. The Israeli daily Haaretz reported that when Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz talked of KILLING Arafat during the Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon asked him not to use that term.

Some Israeli critics accused Sharon of making empty threats. "The bottom line is that they're not expelling Arafat," said Emannuel Rosen, diplomatic correspondent for Israel's Channel 10 TV. "This is a virtual game we're playing among ourselves — undignified, not serious."

Abroad, however, there was concern Israel might act and condemnation of the decision was widespread. France warned that expelling Arafat would be an error and the Arab League said Israel had in effect "declared war" on the peace process.

"It would be unwise to expel him," U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Nabil Shaath said Powell told him in a phone call that the United States pressed Israel to call off any immediate move against Arafat. He said Powell also gave assurances that the United States would push Israel to meet key commitments of the stalled "road map" peace plan, in particular to withdraw forces from Palestinian cities and freeze settlement construction.

Mofaz, meanwhile, insisted Israel would act against Arafat. Speaking ahead of a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Daniel Kurtzer — and with Kurtzer at his side — Mofaz said, "I am convinced the state of Israel has in the past made a historic mistake by not taking this decision earlier."

The Israeli decision meant that Sharon and Mofaz could decide on expelling Arafat without reconvening the Cabinet. Maj. Gen. Giora Eiland confirmed there are operational plans to carry out an expulsion, saying in comments carried by Israel TV that "there can be several plans for different situations."

Arafat's position relies on continuing terrorism agaisnt Israel. If peace broke out, he'd be out of a job, out of power, and would no longer have his hands on the terror-supporting cash cow of the Arab world.

If he was interesed in peace, there would have been peace by now.

But he has repeatedly demonstrated the only peace he wants for Israel is the peace of Jewish graves.

Running Out of Gas

by Ffutal Wednesday, Sep. 17, 2003 at 9:02 PM

Yesterday's New York Times had an article on Colin Powell's visit to Halabja, Iraq, which contained this curious observation:

Mr. Powell's visit underscored an unwelcome fact, it was that the evidence of Iraq's stockpile of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons--the main rationale cited for war earlier this year--have not been found, much to the chagrin of American forces here.

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/09/15/international/worldspecial/15CND-DIPL.html?pagewanted=all

The article's headline: "Powell, in Iraq, Visits Memorial to Kurds Gassed in '88." But there's no evidence of chemical weapons?

Lying? No.

by nonanarchist Wednesday, Sep. 17, 2003 at 9:08 PM

From http://www.debka.com/article.php?aid=482:

Syria is reported by DEBKA-Net-Weekly?s intelligence sources as having secretly disposed of Saddam Hussein?s weapons of mass destruction by moving them into eastern Lebanon for burial in the Beqaa Valley. Iraq?s biological weapons may be there too. They were interred deep under the heroin poppy and cotton fields in two of the most fertile regions of Lebanon: the valley stretching between Jabal Akroum, the town of al Qbayyat and the Syrian border, and the land lying between the towns of Al Hirmil and al Labwah between the Orontes River and the Syrian frontier.

On February 14, about a month before the start of the war in Iraq, DEBKA-Net-Weekly Issue 97 ran an article captioned ?Is Iraq?s WMD cache in Lebanon available to Al Qaeda?? To subscribe to DNW click HERE

Now, our intelligence sources can disclose exclusively that the relocation of Iraq?s WMD systems took place between January 10 and March 10 and was completed just 10 days before the US-led offensive was launched against Iraq. The banned arsenal, hauled in giant tankers from Iraq to Syria and from there to the Bekaa Valley under Syrian special forces and military intelligence escort, was discharged into pits 6-8 meters across and 25-35 meters deep dug by Syrian army engineers. They were sealed and planted over with new seedlings. Nonetheless, their location is known and detectable with the right instruments. Our sources have learned that Syria was paid about $35 million to make Saddam Hussein?s forbidden weapons disappear.

******

That satisfy you? Oh, I forgot...you've already "proved" there ARE no WMD. "Nobody's found them, so they CAN'T exist!" Isn't that how your logic works?

If you can call that logic...

Saddam for President?

by Ffutal Thursday, Sep. 18, 2003 at 6:05 PM

There's a new tape out purporting to be of Saddam Hussein:

To the US president, I say in the name of the great people of Iraq, that you lied to yourself, to your people, and to all others. You did this along with those who got involved with you. Or there might be some who lied to you, but you believed those lies after you were tempted to do some action. You even changed your slogans and the reasons you used several times as a pretext for your hostile military campaign against our country.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3116544.stm

But is this really Saddam? It sounds an awful lot like one of the Democratic presidential candidates, or maybe someone from MoveOn.org.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports Hans Blix has a new (for him) theory: He "believes that Iraq destroyed most of its weapons of mass destruction 10 years ago, but kept up the appearance that it had them to deter a military attack."

"I'm certainly more and more to the conclusion that Iraq has, as they maintained, destroyed all, almost, of what they had in the summer of 1991," Blix tells the Australian Broadcast Corp. "I mean, you can put up a sign on your door, 'Beware of the Dog,' without having a dog."

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030917/ap_on_re_mi_ea/blix_iraq_3

Of course, if Blix is right, doesn't this mean that CLINTON LIED!!!! in 1998 when he said Saddam had weapons of mass destruction? Well, not really. Clinton did exactly what President Bush did: He assumed Saddam was being truthful when he behaved as if he had weapons of mass destruction--an entirely reasonable supposition, given that he had used such weapons to commit mass murder in the past.

Bush's political opponents are now arguing, in effect, that Saddam got a bum rap because he was only bluffing, and that this somehow means he should have been left in power so he could murder thousands of Iraqis using weapons of light destruction.

Not only that....

by pointer Thursday, Sep. 18, 2003 at 7:13 PM

..... but if one were to want to build an empire, 1930's Nazi Germany would be the worst model to use. True, Hitler did take what was a broken country and build it up to a world power in a very short time, but there's no parallel between the US and Nazi Germany. The US was hardly a broken country like Germany was when Hitler came to power. Besides, Nazi Germany went down in flames in only 15 years. Not a good model to try and repeat or even reshape.

Nazi Germany is a scare tactic for the "Angry Left" (Great term, Ffutal) only because it was recent, but it's hardly something one would try and copy. Besides, the American people hear "Nazi" and "fascist" and they immediately think "Holocaust", and when they see we aren't killing Jews, they write these people off for the whackos they are.

If you want a model for an empire, Rome would be the one. The empire lasted for 1000 years. And the form of government, the military, the infrastructure, the architecture, the writings,.... all that they did still influences countries around the world today. *That's* how to build an empire.

That's just too funny.

"spending all day on the computer when you should be out defending those oil companies and the fascist president."

Did you ever serve in the military? I thought not. You are hardly qualified to tell me how to serve. I don't tell you how to collect unemployment, do I?

"You think Hitler took control on one day?
Did he will that election?"

In case nobody told you: if you have to resort to Hitler analogies, you have no real argument.

"Why hasnt congress vetoed a Presidential executive oreder since abe lincoln?"

Uh...because they didn't want to. Too bad they won't listen to you, huh?

"You are a brainwashed moron."

i.e., "I simply cannot imagine anyone looking at the same data and coming to a different conclusion than me."

"DID YOU SEE THE ABOVE PRINT FROM FLUTAL?"

Yes...did you? It was more than a little sarcastic. I guess you didn't (or couldn't) pick up on that.

"NOW BLIX SAYS THERE ARE NO WMDS"

Yeah...can't keep his story straight, can he? Wish he'd make up his mind. What's he going to say when irrefutable proof turns up?

"SADDAM WILL DEFEAT BUSHITS LIES"

Thank you for making your allegience clear. Traitor.

"AND SINCE YOU CANT THINK FOR YOURSELF"

i.e., "Since you don't blindly parrot the Lefty party line as espoused by such geopolitical luminaries as Susan Sarandon, Robert Fisk, and Sean Penn..."

"YOU ARE A TRAITOR TO THE CONSTITUTION"

News flash, Skippy...I'm not the one supporting Saddam over the president elected in accordance with the Constitution.

One more item: Caps lock doesn't confer authority; it just makes you look stupid.

Time began before the 1930's!

by history buff Thursday, Sep. 18, 2003 at 10:40 PM

>DOSENT KNOW THE HISTORY OF HOW FASCIST HITLER CAME TO POWER SO IMMEDIATLY DISREGARDS

It's been clearly pointed out that Nazi Germany is not the model to follow to build an empire. Rome is. American history parallels Rome much more closely than it does Germany at any point in their history. Of course, with you and your ilk, history started in the 1930's in Germany.

>CANT MAKE ANY CONNECTIONS WITHIN THE REALMS OF HISTORY
THINKS "THOSE THAT DO NOT LEARN FROM HISTORY, ARE BOUND TO REPEAT IT"

History didn't begin in the 1930's. You need a better foundation of history. Once again, what would you do if Al Gore had invented the internet in the 1920's? Without Nazi Germany, the only refernece point your people seem to be able to relate to, you'd have no time in history of which to point. To you, everything that's ever happened on the planet Earth can be paralleled to something that happened in Nazi Germany. Get some prespective.

If you and caps lock are so right, Chicken Boy, how come you're on the oputside looking in?

Face it...you're just annoying, yapping little dogs on the fringe of politics.

If your views were mainstream, Bush would never have been elected and the war would never have happened. Gore certainly wouldn't have done anything about Saddam, who would have continued raping, shredding, and dissolving Iraqis.

That just gives you a warm fuzzy, doesn't it?

You don't give a damn about the Iraqi people. You're willing to sacrifice any number of them to your god, Bush-Hate.

You piece of shit. You get all high and mighty and moral, but you don't care how much Iraqi blood is on your hands.

So the opinions of two worthless murderer-apologists don't mean a great deal to me, okay?

Irish Writer Protests "Peace" Hypocrites

by Dick Humongous Friday, Sep. 19, 2003 at 1:39 PM

Killer Peaceniks

No war in Iraq they said, but what about the murders here?

Henry McDonald • The Observer, 13 April 2003

Mid-afternoon on Wednesday the phone rang and a jubilant Iraqi started crying down the other end of the line. He was watching his fellow countrymen and American Marines pull down the statue of Saddam Hussein in central Baghdad.

It was Khalid Ibrahim on the phone, an Iraqi Kurd who has studied in Dublin since he fled his homeland in 1991. Khalid rang not only to celebrate the end of the Baath regime but also to tell me that the following day he and other Iraqi exiles would be marching in Dublin.

On Thursday this band made a small piece of Irish history. The Iraqis would head up the first ever parade through Dublin to the British Embassy in Ireland, not in anger but rather in deep gratitude.

'We are marching to thank the British and later the Americans for this liberation,' a breathless Khalid cried down the phone. 'Today our people are free.'

And then a note of anger entered his voice, not against Saddam and his thugs but rather towards those in Ireland whom he believes tried to prevent his country from being freed from tyranny. The Iraqi exile reserved most of his venom for the Irish anti-war movement.

How must this man have felt over the last few weeks and months when he strolled through the Old World charm of Trinity? What was he thinking when he witnessed the anti-war posters, the impromptu student demonstrations, the rantings and ravings of ageing leftists, veterans of other, older anti-war struggles, hanging out with people 30 years younger than them, drinking from the fountain of revolutionary youth? Sick no doubt and perhaps also a little despondent that Iraq's best chance for freedom since 1979 would be stopped; not by Saddam's reputed so-called elite Republican Guard but rather through the selfish force of Western public opinion.

Khalid needn't have worried. Bush and Blair, and more importantly, the Iraqi people themselves have paid no attention to the not-in-my-name narcissi.

No one with a heart could have taken any comfort in the prosecution of this short but bloody war. The sight of the young boy in Baghdad, in deep distress, threatening to commit suicide unless he is given new prosthetic arms is particularly heart-breaking. One hopes the Americans and/or the British spend as much resources looking after this young victim for the rest of his life, as they will with their own wounded and maimed.

But the official Iraqi figures for civilian casualties (that is the official figures of the ancien régime ) are interesting. They estimate that around 1,000 civilians were killed (1,000 too many) in this brief but conventional conflict.

Amazingly Northern Ireland's squalid little war, fought over a tiny piece of earth, prosecuted against a relatively smaller population, resulted in far more civilian casualties. It is worth remembering that some of those republican groupings allied to the Irish anti-war movement were responsible along with the loyalists for those totally unnecessary civilian deaths.

For those who don't get the irony of that, just recall that in one day alone 5,000 men, women and children were gassed to death by Saddam's forces in Halabja.

Another striking aspect of this three-week war to liberate Iraq has been the level of abuse heaped on those who supported ordinary Iraqis' right to be free. The violence of the language of the Irish peaceniks in print, on the airwaves and across cyberspace, has been in sharp contrast to their protestations of peace. The insults they hurled were often menacing and sometimes threatening. 'Pond scum' was just one label attached to this writer by these new proponents of peace, love and understanding - albeit peace, love and understanding only with dictatorships.

None of this really matters, particularly to those of us in this profession who have to face loyalist death threats on a regular basis and who witnessed at first hand the horror of war from Lebanon to Bosnia. The nasty jibes and name-callings of a few students and Trots will hardly inflict much long-term hurt.

It does matter, however, that the Irish anti-war movement has once again got it so wrong when it comes to the attitudes of ordinary Iraqis over their support for the invasion. They patronised Iraqis who supported military action and at times insulted them, as in the case of Tony Benn accusing one Iraqi woman who dared remonstrate with him of being a CIA stooge.

Like the Baath dictatorship, the Irish branch of the Saddam Hussein Preservation Society is going out of business, exposed as it has been for being morally vacuous and pig ignorant. To redeem themselves, even at the endgame of this conflict, they could issue an apology to Khalid Ibrahim and his fellow exiles. But given their arrogant dismissal of the facts on the ground in what was once Saddam's torture chamber, the chance of such an apology is hardly likely to be forthcoming.

Tax Rates

by ya Friday, Sep. 19, 2003 at 7:49 PM

Actually, the tax burden on the middle class went down. All tax rates in every bracket went down. So robbing the middle to pay the rich doesn't apply.

On the other hand, there won't be any revolution without the help of the working calss. And the working class doesn't want anything to do with people who make fun of them, like the activist community constantly does.

I can see you're as incompetent at understanding economics as you are discussing relevant issues.

>the only people who would feel insulted about living in a trailer park are people like you who look down on those who do.

People who look down on people who live in trailors, like *you* do, use the image of what you believe people think of those who live in trailors (trailor trash, I believe, is what people like you call them) to insult them, like *you* did.

Thick skin and ribbing. Nice try. You insulted them.

Your whole activists community constantly spits in the faces of average Americans, and then wonders why things don't change. And then, when it's pointed out to you, you deny you do it.
