Josh Canole, an SAC student, was busted yesterday.
[I *think* this is the guy who was the resident of the REGEN V COOP. They're both named Josh, and it sounds like the same kid.]

It was announced on KPFK yesterday and today that Josh Connole is a member of A.N.S.W.E.R. Orange County Chapter. This is not true and KPFK is publishing misinformation. Josh is not a member of A.N.S.W.E.R. He attended many and all local peace protests along with the Brea Group. Josh is with the Brea Peace Committee and helped organize the protests at Brea Blvd & Imperial Hwy. that many of us often attended. Josh is an energenic peace/antiwar activist. He has showed up to many and recent street demonstrations with his sign, "BUSH IS A FACIST NAZI CORPORATE PIG".
Whatever the Gov decides to accuse him of he will depend on support from his friends. There was a vigil in Costa Mesa and at his home last night. Hi friends of the Brea Peace Committee plan on forming support groups and raising funds for this defense.
Be Brave, Chuck

The CNN article on the arrest of Josh Connole (presently at http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/West/09/13/suv.arson.ap/index.html ) contains the following claim: "The Times, citing sources it did not identify, said Connole could be seen on one surveillance tape just before dozens of vehicles were torched." The actual Times quote (from its article currently posted at: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-hummer13sep13.story ) is as follows: "Sources close to the investigation said that Connole could be seen on surveillance tape shot just before the fire at the Hummer dealership." CNN's formulation implies that the Times stated on its own account ("the Times...said...") and as its own opinion based upon its own sources that Connole was seen on the surveillance tape. In reality, the Times merely passed along the opinion of unnamed sources without endorsing it or vouching for its credibility in any way. That interpretation is supported by the rest of the Times article, which presents a picture that is generally supportive of the possibility that Connole might be innocent of the crime. The Times of course does not take a formal position regarding Connole's guilt or innocence, as is common for any article not specifically appearing as an editorial comment. What does this arrest mean? That authorities are embarassed at their lack of a credible suspect and are looking for a scapegoat? That authorities were looking to pin something on Connole for other reasons and thought that this might stick? A little of both? Or, maybe that they had some small suspicion that he might be their culprit and didn't want to risk his getting away until they could confirm or deny this? Or perhaps that they simply bungled their investigation and now are waiting until public attention dies down before admitting to their mistake? From what I have read of Connole, he is not of exceptional importance or interest to the authorities, which is not to disrespect the many positive and nonviolent activities in which he and his evidently lovely group of communards have participated. So, I strongly suspect that investigators either screwed up or else are looking for a scapegoat. However, there is one other possibility, and that is that they are deliberately framing someone who is engaged in completely legal activism in an attempt to instill fear in the broad class of such law-abiding activists and to thus stifle legitimate dissent. Just because I mention this last does not mean that I believe it is the most likely possibility. There are endless possibilities so far as law enforcement bungling and other misuses of the blunt legal instrument are concerned. But it is certainly something that has to be considered. And of course attention has to be focused upon this case until Connole's release is secured.

fox news actually connected the dots in typicl, "we report, you decide," fashion by adding to the story that connole is also a vegan.
vegan?!? well, of course he did it!

hey guys - here's a quick update: he's free.
the cops say they're still investigating, but, I think they have no case. i don't think he did it. i think they just wanted those computers. it's nice that the kids will get new computers, but, who will erase the data the FBI's now got about the local peace movement (if there was anything interesting on them).
they took other stuff too - photos and notebooks. add it up. that's what the feds wanted. that's what they always want - a little more info to get to "the big boss". well, surprise surprise, there is no big boss, and we're all acting on our own, armed with the same information.

I would like to find a attorney so that I can file a 5 million dollar civil rights law suit. Who gives these people the right to violate your civil-rights? I have been terrorized by the civil defense department for the pass three years. This is a list of mine complains. attempt murder and Destruction of my business of ten years, vandalism and, stalking with intent to terrorize, filing false police reports, cause arrest, I have evidence that can prove the guilt of this organization. They are using neighborhood watch personnel, off duty police officers, and FBI agencies as a surveillance force, They have committed a ring of terror on me. I feel I should be financially reimburse for the loss that I have accrued mentally, physically, emotionally. I am a American citizen and I have no idea why have targeted me with this surveillance. I have documented these atrocity with video , and photos. I feel I should be compensated for what these agency have done to my life. Richard hhstuido@sbcglobal.net
