CHILE - SEPT 11TH 1973

by victor jara Monday, Sep. 08, 2003 at 9:07 AM

The world remembers the Chilean people's struggle for democratic socialism, and the brutal U.S. backed military coup that destroyed it.

The U.K. Guardian provides excellent coverage on the history of the Chilean revolution, the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende... and the 1973 U.S. backed coup of Fascist General Augusto Pinochet.

Marxist Allende

by Josef Monday, Sep. 08, 2003 at 3:23 PM

Allende was a marxist. He put marxist policies in action in Chile and naturally, these destroyed the economy. People were hungry, not getting paid and wanted change. What did Allende do about this? Nothing. Allende's own marxist policies directly led to the military takeover.

This, remember, was the height of the Cold War. Why should the US help to save an ally of the USSR?

The US policy of supporting the Pinochet government was the right thing to do.

>Despite the brutality of the Pinochet regime, Chile is much better off today than would have been the case with Allende in power.
Why would anyone think this? Certainly the subjects of brutality would not agree.
>Chile is one of the most successful countries in Latin America today. Cuba is one of the most unsuccessful.
In what respects do you measure success? The intensity of embargoes and terrorism vs. the compliance of the local government to allow material and labor to enjoy their freedom from indigenous environmental or labor concerns?
>If Allende had stayed in power, Chile would be at the bottom of the list of latin American countries alongside Cuba. Instead they're now at the very top. They have only the CIA to thank for helping them to dump Allende
Ok, enough is enough. I know you will not concede. For the curious, the dirty tricks Mr. Kissenger and his weasels in the AFL-CIO the WELL funded destabilizing efforts and the long list of assassinations are an epic of wetwork and dirty deals culminating in the reign of terror as Allende is murdered in his refusal to step down and the torture centers round ups and disappearances consolidated the clamp on all the things Bush Admirer hates. Freedom of expression, freedom to organize for collective bargaining, and freedom from socialism for the poor rather than the wealthy.
He should have been at the initial stadium round ups as the people who had been rounded up, bewildered and disbelieving had Many Bush Admirers with machine guns to demonstrate their views and opinions.

I'll do you one better. I'll point to that great experiment in Marxism: The Soviet Union.

Oh, that's right! To you defenders of slavery via marxism, the Soviet Union wasn't really "marxism", it was state controlled capitalism. You know, you gotta rename it something since it didn't work out the way it was drawn up, and it certainly could NEVER be that marxism is a failure and therefore the Soviet Union was the natural result of the failure of marxism. Oh, No!!!! Marxists can never admit that the formula is flawed. The formula got corrupted, Yeah, that's it! You can say that marxism was revised by the Bolsheviks. You must, above all else, even in the light of obvious failure, protect the "idea" of marxism. Yeah, yeah, that's it!! Cover it up!! Cover it up!!

Moron.

I found this one to be interesting.
. . . Military had all roads to Santiago blocked. Lid was on TIGHT inside city. Everyone on streets not wearing right color jersey stood an excellent chance of getting shot. Allende managed to personally broadcast two "MAYDAY" messages. The first, at 0830, sounded strong and confident as he summoned the workers and students. The second at 0945 sounded morose, almost as if he was preparing the eulogy for his dying government. It was his last broadcast as the Air Force soon located and rocketed his antennae. The hour was 1015. . . .

Oh, yeah! There's no place the people of Cuba would rather be than under the thumb of marxism. Gee, who wouldn't want to live their lives as slaves to the state, having your personal possessions confiscated, having any dreams that come natural to the human spirit stripped away, freedom but a past memory and no hope in sight. Wow!! Where can we all sign up!?!

That's right!! All those people leaving the worker's paradise of Cuber on rickety watercraft to come to their northern neighbor isn't real at all. There's no such thing as a free lucnh, you dirty commie!

Here's a wonderful article about your "free health care."

"Single-payer socialized medicine a killer in New Zealand

New Zealand's highly touted free cradle-to-the-grave public health system was in tatters Sunday after the death of a man whose family had for three weeks desperately tried to make health authorities give him life-extending medical treatment. Rau Williams died in Whangarei Hospital, north of Auckland, just hours after the Court of Appeal, in an emergency sitting, ruled that hospital managers Northland Health did not need to resume kidney dialysis treatment. "He was drowned by three top judges and two clinicians," his nephew Jim Shortland said."

http://www.iatrogenic.org/newzealand.html

Do a search. All over the socialized medicine world, people are waiting on long lists for life-saving operations, kidney dialysis that never comes, ambulances going from hospital to hospital because there's not enough room, etc....

People, keep in mind, currently if your doctor provides and incorrect diagnosis and you are injured as a reslut, you can sue for damages. Under socialized medicine, there is no redress. The government pays the bills. More than likely, all doctors will be government employees. You sue the doctors, you're suing the government. You can't sue the government.

They cut off the wrong leg? Tough!!

What we need to do is get government off our back and out of our lives. Single-payer healthcare is only going to involve them even more deeply into our lives, give them more control, allow them more access to our behaviors and our private lives.

I swear, for people who mistrust the government so much and are contantly complaining about how they misuse their power, you certainly are willing to hand over your health to them on a silver platter. Do you believe that after all the things the government constantly screws up all the time that they are suddenly going to get this one right?

Let's make this clear: I'm not in favor of anarchy, it's just superior to liberalism. That's right, having no government at all is better than liberalism.

Because you and people like you believe the Constitution is being trampled upon doesn't mean that it is. Under the current government, you are free to express yourself and claim that the Constitution is being ripped apart. Under marxism, people get shot or thrown in the gulog for speaking out against the government.

Because you say it is an unpopular war doesn't mean that is it. Again under marxism, any criticism of the government or its policies is a receipe for death.

I already "contribute to the general welfare," which is part of the problem, is that I contribute too much of what I make to the general welfare. I and many others could take care of ourselves and freely contribute to people or organizations who would help the poor and sick and downtrodden, or have more time to volunteer ourselves to help our fellowman if we could keep more of our own hard-earned money.

Rob, you can't connect leggos, much less a coherant thought.

How do you connect my desire for less government control over our daily lives to believing I want something else to take its place?

And as I figured, marxism can't be blamed by the likes of those like you for the failures of the Soviet Union. You've got to call it something else, in this case, "which was bolshivism with its own attendant class tiers and privileged elite was again suppressive towards the greater population." You just can't admit that marxism was a failure. Oh, No! It just wasn't done the right way.

No, I've seen the result of marxism around the world, and I want nothing to do with it. If you thought about it, you wouldn't either.

Taking money away from working people in the form of higher taxes to fund all these social programs including "free" health care is not freedom. You never addressed this, and I can see why, but when you hand over to the government the task of paying for your healthcare, they are going to want satisfaction for what they paid, and that means access to your private medical records. They'll have your blood, they'll have your DNA, they'll know your habits, they'll know it all. You people on here fear the government knowing too much about you already. Well, hand them over single-payer healthcare, and just watch what all they'll know about you. And how they'll use it. You're going to see national databases on you that you didn't know could exist. And you will have just handed it over to the government on a silver platter.

9-11 Blood Drives

by The New X Thursday, Sep. 11, 2003 at 4:49 AM

remember every1 dont give blood this 9-11.

after all its so unfair how we have to pay extra taxes to subsidize the lifestyles of those too lazy to work. as for a national health care plan, i only go to the hospital once every 10 years, why should i have to pay just so that those less fortunate than I can get adequate medical care?

so remember all y'all republicans, the same way that its tough luck for those less fortunate people without medical insurance, its tough luck for the people killed in events like sep 11th.

im not gonna give blood or give money to any charities. why should I? why should i care bout the less fortunate when i could instead spend the charity money buying doritos and dip for monday night hickball *cough* i mean football?

dont give blood or money to charity!
its their tough luck for being victims

thank you republicans for helping me to see the light

"when you hand over to the government the task of paying for your healthcare, they are going to want satisfaction for what they paid,"

hello? you are describing a profit driven system. Look around. The existing social programs like farm subsidy, taxed paid logging roads
full purse(yours and mine) for the pentagon and defense partnerships and police and prison industry already exits. Are you also protesting those? They sure are not being means tested. Just the crumbs being thrown at the welfare spending. Come on.

So, X

How does what you said:

"im not gonna give blood or give money to any charities. why should I? why should i care bout the less fortunate...."

coincide with what I said:

"[I alreday pay too much in taxes] I and many others could take care of ourselves and freely contribute to people or organizations who would help the poor and sick and downtrodden, or have more time to volunteer ourselves to help our fellowman if we could keep more of our own hard-earned money."

Hmmmmmmm.................??

Rob,

>hello? you are describing a profit driven system.

No. I'm fully aware you want it to be non-profit. That doesn't mean it will stay that way. And, that still isn't going to keep the government from obtaining the information and setting up databases to be used for later. You know, later on once having control over healthcare isn't enough. Later on when they want to micro-manage the life of every person. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. You're ending up in the same place you fear if corporations take over, only difference is you're taking a different road, the road of big government taking over. Rome started out as a republic, then they got Caesar and things were going so well at first, the people didn't really care they had thrown the republic down the drain. Then the shit hit the fan.

if corporations take over

by Rob Richmen Thursday, Sep. 11, 2003 at 5:42 AM

" if corporations take over" Maybe we're on the same track here but in different cars.
Let me try again unless you are purposely muddying the waters.
Corporations (as I have given examples) have already taken over.
If you removed the blood suckers from the public purse there would be lower taxes and more social service ( an investment in the future and a safeguard to the health of a culture) with an attendant way to allow public input to the functions of our government to prevent abuses..
You can start your marxist rant but it is, after all the histrionics, just another boogey man. Stop attempting to paint with such a broad brush.
As a 'Working person', I find it difficult to believe you would shun the concept of a single payer health care plan that would keep a financial risk like a critical health issue from bankrupting you from being developed. I suspect other motives for your disdain.

>Corporations have already taken over.

I disagree. "Rollerball" was a great movie, especially the original with James Caan, but we are not living in a world where corporations control the world, and the great Jonathon E. is not skating around the rink.

>and more social services

I don't want social services performed by the government. Private donations to charities by individuals, that's OK. Privatize. Keep it in the hands of the common man. People caring for other people because they want to. You're going to have the same problem with healthcare you have with welfare. It's the attitude of "I don't need to help that person. I pay taxes that's supposed to do that." And you know damn well it exist out there already. If we've reached a point in our society where we don't care enough about each other to help our fellowman, then no government mandated program will save us from ourselves.

>you would shun the concept of a single payer health care plan

For two reasons:

1) It involves the government controlling it, and
2) My health and the health of my family is my responsibility, not yours. I have no right to impose upon you my problems. If you volunteer to help me and I accept, that's different. But my responsibility rests upon me and me alone. I'll take care of me and my own and everyone else needs to do the same.

No, it's not. Why couldn't I donate to an area where the need was greatest? I'm not limited to my own backyard.

>United we stand, right?

I don't stand united with people who would gladly hand over to big brother things that we the people apart from the government can do better, be more efficient, and at a lower cost. This big brother government you love has a way of wanting to continue growing until they decide one day that freedom for the common man is just a little too inconvienient for them and what they want to do. But by the time you realize it, it's too late, you're already in the concentration camps. I've seen the USSR and what it did. No, thanx for dropping by.

friend, the only reason you're sputtering about divorcing yourself from government is because you believe you can martial the resources to keep yourself and your 'private property' from the mobs without the assistance of the state. You are sounding more like my friend
Siesel Richman who has more than enough means to carry a private army, school, fire deptment and road system. Good for you. No wonder you hate taxes.
