for an anti-authoritarian collective, you seem to cover all the events of the sleezy ANSWER and NION people. how can you speak about peace when you the groups you are supporting want dictatorship? that is not an exageration, that comes from their own reports and politcal postions. get the facts straight about these people before parading them on your site: http://www.authoritarianopportunistswhocozyuptogenocidaldictators-forpeace.org/ http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?SectionID=15&ItemID=2527 (read #8)

i bet a lot of people get some satisfaction from watching a movie or going to a concert (or going to a movie about a concert), but, how is this real social change? how is this concrete action against war? it's spectacle.
spectacular reading clubs for the ones who like to read. spectacular music clubs for those who prefer to listen. spectacular performance groups for those who need attention. spectacular marches for the ones who want face to face action with the lapd (as if dealing with them in real life is not enough of a pain in the ass). spectacular volunteer work for the people who can't stand inaction.

first, recognize the spectacular nature of life. second, resist it. http://www.bopsecrets.org/SI/debord/1.htm resisting the speactacle is difficult, because it's ingrained into the way we live. we're obsessed with presenting a larger-than-life image of ourselves. we're obsessed with being near or associated with those who are larger than life. why do we go to anti-war demonstrations? is it to satisfy our yearning to participate in the spectacle? in the spectacular society, the artist is proletarianized as a member of the service economy. we enslave ourselves to the spectacles produced by these artists. we desire to become stars, and hence enslave others through our artistic production. when all life is images, images come to life. dream of a world where a photograph has the same rights as a human being. does it mean that photographs become human, or are humans reduced to photographs. probably, it means the latter. (think of the last time you gazed upon an illegal alien not of your own ethnicity. before you were a radical. what did you think?) "The spectacle is the ruling order’s nonstop discourse about itself, its never-ending monologue of self-praise, its self-portrait at the stage of totalitarian domination of all aspects of life." this is just some food for though. the answer, i think, is to engage in constant revolutionary practice, whenever possible.

most of the above posters are petty individualists. you claim to be anti- dicatorship yet bash art. anon and the rest of the heyenas are basically saying that a culture of resistance is non needed. do expect people to just march in the streets like zombies and not celebrate art that exposes the war machine. what type of vapid mind state are you in?

...after hearing of the film:
"Holy crap! There was a film shown in Hollywood, and it was about an anti-war concert! I must tell the President immediately! We need to get out of Iraq right away! By the way, I didn't know Rickie Lee Jones was still alive..."
The sole result of the event was that people who opposed the war still opposed the war. Those who did not oppose the war still did not oppose the war. The people who were involved in the concert and film went home congratulating themselves that they had made a difference, when in fact, they did not.
Oh, and I found out Rickie Lee Jones was still alive.

Mr. "I'm so BRAVE behind this sign with the catchy slogan, protesting against the system which allows me to protest against it, oblivious of the fact that my presence here in the street shows the system I claim is oppressing me is not, in fact, oppressing me at all."

>I[‘]m already a USMC veteran. I was honorably discharged from the military almost 20 years ago. You wouldn[‘]t know anything about serving the military, OR serving your country for that matter.< Pathetic fool. You assume so much. What were you in the Marines, an officers orderly or the cook? No probably an officer. The head of an ant on the ass of an elephant. We would ambush idiots like you who thought they knew what was going on and didn’t have any idea what they were walking into. Typical jar head. Nice gun fodder for finding out what and where the direct and indirect fire was coming from.
