The alleged 'Category 1' Hurricane Claudette still spins over the Tex-Mex border some 500 miles inland. I would put forth the following hypothesis':
1) Fed officials intentionally down-played the size of this storm to avoid FEMA payments to the states;
2) Damage in the areas is greater than that seen in typical Cat 1 storms (source : MSNBC.com);
3) The storm's eye stayed intact for at least one hundred miles after leaving the Gulf, very strange for such a 'weak' storm;
4) Now called a 'tropical depression', the storm still maintains the trademark spin of a Hurricane, including storm center but no visible 'eye';
5) This storm may regain strength if its' path continues westly towards the Pacific. It does appear to be dissapating at this time. It is very strongly organized.
