Grisly Death Enrages Anti-U.S. Town In Iraq

by Michael Georgy Tuesday, Jul. 08, 2003 at 4:17 PM

The circumstances surrounding the death of the man, identified by a hospital official as Ibrahim Himoud, were unclear.   Iraqi witnesses said U.S. troops brought him to the hospital and said he was shot after running a checkpoint. They also said a second civilian was killed.

7-7-3

RAMADI, Iraq (Reuters) - The gruesome death of an Iraqi man whose head was shot off inflamed anti-American rage in the volatile town of Ramadi on Monday after a night of armed attacks which wounded four U.S. troops.

Several Iraqis gathered around his bullet ridden car where a piece of skull lay among the shattered windshield glass on the floorboard.

Another crowd walked past pools of blood at Ramadi General Hospital and watched a doctor pull plastic sheeting off his corpse that was punctured by bullets they said were fired by U.S. troops occupying the town, around 100 km (60 miles) west of Baghdad.

"You will see what will happen to the Americans now. You will see what we will do to them," hospital administrator Taha Hussein told Reuters.

On Saturday, seven recruits to a U.S.-backed Iraqi police force were killed in Ramadi when a remote-controlled bomb exploded outside a police station.

Ramadi is part of a mainly Sunni Muslim area to the north and west of Baghdad where U.S. forces have faced much of the most violent resistance to their occupation of Iraq The region was a bastion of support for Saddam Hussein himself a Sunni.

"The Americans are terrorists. They don't respect us. They enter our houses and frisk our women. They handcuff us at checkpoints and step on our necks," said Abu Mohsen.

"Now look at this. They just shoot at cars and kill innocent people," he said pointing to the body of the decapitated man on a stretcher outside the morgue.

CONFUSION

The circumstances surrounding the death of the man, identified by a hospital official as Ibrahim Himoud, were unclear.

Iraqi witnesses said U.S. troops brought him to the hospital and said he was shot after running a checkpoint. They also said a second civilian was killed.

A U.S. military spokesman said the decapitated man was caught in the crossfire after six Iraqi assailants ambushed a U.S. position and it was not clear who shot him.

A spokesman in Baghdad said four soldiers had been wounded in the ambush.

"At about that time, one of our vehicles was attempting to impose a roadblock. A Toyota truck approached. One of the men in the Toyota truck was shot and killed. The other was detained for questioning," Captain Michael Calvert told Reuters.

The mortar attack on Sunday night was the fifth in Ramadi in seven days, said Calvert. Rocket-propelled grenades have been the weapons of choice in recent weeks.

The U.S.-backed mayor's office was also hit by small arms fire and then grenade attacks a few minutes later, Calvert said.

U.S. troops are not taking any risks. They sit sideways in their vehicles with M-16 rifles ready for any assailant on the grim streets of Ramadi.

At the entrance of a heavily fortified palace complex once owned by Saddam, U.S. troops watched a truck tow a jeep with multiple bullet holes in its windshield.

"We want Saddam. Look what the Americans are doing. They are killing us. The attacks on Americans will get worse. It will be Jihad (holy war)," said Yassin Mishaal.

Ibrahim Hmoud Obeid... I'm sorry that soldiers from my country killed you. To Ibrahim's Son... forgive the people of my country for taking your Father's life. To all of the relatives who mourn the loss... don't blame Americans for the sins of a man who rules over us. What if they were your relatives? Your Mother, Sister, Cousin? What would you tell them? How would you comfort them? Tell them that their loss is not so great because they are now "liberated"?

These Women will not forget or forgive. Bush... you are in a sand trap. You have found the new Vietnam.

What to Tell The Grieving Women

by Meyer London Wednesday, Jul. 09, 2003 at 7:48 AM

Well, we could tell them the truth - the man died to insure cheap gas for yuppies, high profits for oil companies, good poll statistics for Bush, and a male hormone rush for teenagers brainwashed with the constant command to KILL! in basic training.

similarity with Bush

by Meyer London Wednesday, Jul. 09, 2003 at 9:18 AM

The murdered man's body is now headless and Bush is brainless. But there the similarity ends; the former is one more victim of imperialism, the latter an untalented member of the ruling class spreading homicide and mayhem accross the world with the aid of flunkies who are brighter than he is.

No Oil for dollars

by No Blood for transplants Wednesday, Jul. 09, 2003 at 7:58 PM

Cheap gas for yuppies?

Is that the best you can do? I mean come on, what you think OPEC won’t cut back their production to make up for the increased supply. If anything it is only making the cartel poorer. I would have though you liked seeing filthy rich people making less money? I guess this only applies to white people eh?
While I have no doubt that Bush is a moron, if you need to constantly need to resort to personal insults against him, doesn’t say much for yourself.
Seriously, Bush must really be slow; all he had to do was ask.

Bush “Saddam sell us a lot of oil and will let your atrocities slide. (say like the French and Russians)
Saddam “Yes I like ruling Iraq like a god and I could use the money to buy some more anti-US activists like Ramsay Clark and the rest of the Labour party.

stupidity

by frequent follower of this site Thursday, Jul. 10, 2003 at 6:10 AM

You are right, policsy, that the above post is exceptionally stupid. But it would have to go some to match some of the other stuff that has been posted here by such luminaries as Eric, Fresca, Daveman, and other members of the local Friekorps.

South Los Angeles

by Meyer London Thursday, Jul. 10, 2003 at 8:54 AM

These comments are a little off topic for this thread, but since the ridiculously long thread that ran out on the topic of telling the poor not to have children ran out of space, I would like to respond to the idiot who accused me of equating "South Central" with black people. Well, yuppie, aside from the fact that there never was an official place called South Central, the fact is that the LA City Council had recently officially named that general area South Los Angeles. I guess the news hasn't filtered out to the burbs yet. And the area has not been entirely African-American (if it ever was) for years. Huge sections of it are now Latino, and it is likely that the section of it called Watts will show a heavy Latino majority in the next census. In addition, small colonies of immigrants from all over the world live there; they produce the necessities and luxuries that you consume, even though you, in your racist ignorance and arrogance don't even know of their existence while you are extending your advice to the poor not to have children. And don't try to kid us, buster, when you attack the poor you might be including poor whites somewhere in your mind, but your basic attack is no people of color, since they constitute the majority of the poor in LA.
Have fun out in suburbia, white boy, and don't forget to tip the gardeners.
